Every new manager regime gives new hope Shaw will finally get fit and stay fit..... just keep getting disappointed. One of the best players around when he's actually on the pitch.

Newcastle 4:1 Man Utd New
Been a huge miss this season, when fit he is one of the few players Utd have with genuine quality.

He's still class, his technique and movement on the pitch haven't declined at all. Hopefully this was a run out to get him ready to start against Lyon, we'll need him. Much more confident with him back there.

Can't see him starting v Lyon personally but it'll probably happen against Wolves or Bournemouth. Can't rely on him staying fit but still nice to see him play football finally.

I was saying to my son we’ve got so few players in our squad right now who look legitimately top class. Standing out as obviously better than your average PL footballer in the way they manipulate the ball.

Bruno is one and Shaw is another. After that it’s VERY slim pickings. Which is insane for a club that apparently has aspirations of being better than your average PL club.

We are used to such a low level of football (especially from a technical standpoint) that a Shaw returning from such a lenghty injury still looks head and shoulders above most of the rest

Manage the minutes with a view to him hopefully being able to play the next round of Europa if we can scrape through.

Why play this guy? Don't get it, he will never ever play a full season for this club again. Can't be relied upon.

We've missed his ball progression. Even that one attack where he brought it up the pitch to Hojlund before he did nothing with it was far better than anything produced down our left side in months.

He's obviously not an answer with his fitness concerns but it highlights the severe lack of quality in the squad.

Genuinely good player. I know, I know, injured all the time. But still, he's good.

Of all our injury prone players he is the only one i can say with certainty that injuries held him back. His technique is class. His play making abilities from lcb or lwb have been missed.

Because a fit Shaw does wonders for our ability to progress play from the back. He is also not to bad at helping create attacks whether at lwb or lcb. We can dump him in the summer.

Our best player, pound for pound. I’m a huge fan, his injuries are of course terribly frustrating.

Didn't see the game - did he play as a LCB when he came on?

Wonder if Amorim is tempted to start him on Thursday, big risk but he is an asset when on the pitch... just sadly nowhere near enough

No chance he starts. The game has come too soon for him. Yoro probably had his best game for us at LCB in the first leg, he should continue there alongside Maguire and Maz.

Yeah, LCB. I highly doubt he'll start any game soon as pushing him too hard pretty much guarantees he breaks down fast. Take it slowly and maybe we'll end up getting more from him before he gets injured again.

Game is almost certainly too soon, but we could use him at LWB in place of Dorgu on Thursday. It appears this is sort of seen as one of our ‘attacking’ positions - and we could do with genuine quality in a lot of the situations we find Dorgu in. We can’t afford to have a night of ‘should have made that pass’ etc on Thursday, the ball needs to go in for us. I’d also trust Shaw at his best to look after Cherki.

Would rather play youth for the rest of the season..

Do we believe for one last time?

What a player though. Would've been as important as Bruno if not more if he stayed fit

I'd throw him on for the EL game

Don't care, can't wait til he's gone.
A very strange tone on here relating to Shaw. It’s not like he’s a player that hasn’t trained well or given his all when playing. Yeah, his injury record sucks, but that’s no reason to dislike the guy. Let’s pray he can stay fit for a run or months as we are a FAR better team when he is on the team sheet

Maybe if he didn't travel with England in the summer or make music videos in the winter I would be more forgiving. But in all honesty, not likely. We all work with different types of people, some people are a little sick and still come to work and power through it, because thats what you have to do as an adult and some people get the sniffles and call in for the next 3 days to recover, they could easily come to work and just keep their distance from people, but they use the opportunity to get out of work. Shaw is the later. I don't doubt he has some level of injury, but what professional footballer doesn't, most are playing through injury at this point of the season. He can't wait to sit on the sideline and cash his check. And often times these injuries seem to coincide with when the team isn't doing good, the Rangnick season, he just checked out with a couple months to go, Ten Hag's first season, he was there when things were good, until we won the League Cup, and as soon as things started to turn after that he just checked out for the remainder of the season and has basically never come back. Guarantee if Amorim came in in November and we went on a massive positive run that he would have miraculously been fit and started playing.

You say this with no evidence. He was clearly injured and the club and its physios would've known how serious it was all throughout the process, which would've obviously made it hard to feign being injured more seriously than he actually was. Just deal with the reality that players do get injured, occasionally for lengthy stretches. There's no need to attack them because of something that was out of their control.

My evidence is that he's literally been out for an entire year, but when it was convenient for him, going with England to the Euro's, he was fit, and then coming back to a struggling team, still under Ten Hag, then he was back to being injured. It's so obvious it's almost hard to see, but sometimes the obvious is obvious for a reason. Footballers are just people, some are dedicated, some aren't, Shaw clearly isn't dedicated. I don't doubt he is actually injured at times, I just think he leans into his injuries instead of powering through them, because it's an easier path. Have you honestly never worked with one of these people in your real life?

If he went to England then he was obviously fit to do so. If he returned to United injured then that's just the way it goes. No need to criticize a player for getting injured. As for dedication, that is again a opinion being levied without any evidence to back it up.

It’s always interesting when caf members say itself clearly this or that. We simply csn only make a guess.

Many clearly knew a lot of things about Jones.

The evidence is that when things are going good in the team he seems to be fit and he plays, when things are going bad he seems to be injured. When he thought England could win the Euro's he had to be a part of it. This has been his MO for a number of seasons now. It's pretty obvious.

If we play 36 league games with Lindelof and just 2 with Shaw instead, then at least we would have 2 games where we stand a chance

Why do people talk about selling him? Literally noone is going to pay his wages with his injury record.

Our best bet is to just play him when he's fit but never rely on him. He's still a ridiculously good player. Would start him on Thursday if his fitness allows.

That's not evidence. That's more in the category of an unfortunate confluence of bad luck and coincidence.
