I am not defending lindelof here. All I am saying is that he's still a football player who can play week in week out football at a reasonable level. I can't say the same about shaw
Oh, nice, hopefully it's good news then!Maja is pregnant so she might have gone into labour
He’s barely played football for over a year so not unexpectedLuke was dogshite today, quite frankly. Huge downgrade in quality of defence after a half time![]()
shocked when i saw the profile of him waiting to come on. Like Kim Kardashian in a kit
Was awful today. As usual people will overreact and act like he's usually terrible.

Agreed, but they need game time. Not ideal playing them in the circumstances,, but they both and Mainoo came through without injury and could yet both prove crucial at the end of the season.Miles off the pace but to be expected. Both him and Mount are nowhere near level they should be, having to rely on them is far from ideal.
Who would you have chosen instead?Crazy that Amorim threw him into that game, the intensity was too much for him. His minutes will need to be managed carefully because he is made of glass and also looks out of shape (again).
No, needs to be binned.Needs minutes
Not ideal, but Lindelof as he is at least fit. I personally would have binned the back three off altogether.Who would you have chosen instead?
But it has been confirmed that lindeloff wasn’t available, as he had to leave. This was confirmed after the match by the manager, and has been all over the internet and this very site since the game ended. I guess you missed that, though. Not ideal, but Lindelof as he is at least fit. I personally would have binned the back three off altogether.
I did miss that yes, my apologies. But it has been confirmed that lindeloff wasn’t available, as he had to leave. This was confirmed after the match by the manager, and has been all over the internet and this very site since the game ended. I guess you missed that, though.
Shaw was never top class and will never be. Your idea of "fitness" holding him back from being top class is a fantasy toy story. Perhaps when the club bought him from Southampton, the potential was there. He has shown flashes but nothing concrete to warrant such a grandiose claim.Calm down. We all know that Shaw is a top class LCB/LB/LWB. He just came back from long term injury. His quality is not in question at all. He usually will takes time to play into form.
Hope this round he can stay fit for much longer.
I don’t think Shaw is the right player for the CB role on this system either. Look at the way Yoro has moved forward recently - that’s what you want from the outside CBs. Even Maz does this to an extent. He looks overweight, I know of people who work in excess of 50 hours a week who are in great shape still making time to go the gym on average of three sessions. Now compare that to an Athlete who is paid for a living, to resemble such a physique it's demonstrable of poor professionalism. Now I'm not shaming him but remember the contrast is he's an athlete. Injury's should undoubtedly deem a player lacking in match fitness but being overweight is another issue entirely.
I said a few weeks ago that I can't see Shaw being a success at United in the wingback role. If he couldn't maintain being injury free as a left back how in the world does he maintain playing wingback needing to cover the lengths of both the defensive / offensive sides more persistently.
It absolutely makes more sense to revert Luke to a role where he's either side of the central defender. He's physically shot so has no long term viability in the wider areas. With Lindelof's contract up, the club could offload him and use Shaw as a backup for the defence in place of an injury / suspension.
Got to say I disagree with you here. In his limited minutes since returning Shaw has already got forward quite a lot more than Mazraoui normally does. Made one great run against Newcastle, then was getting forward and putting a bunch of dangerous crosses in against Lyon (admittedly the latter was down to 10 men for most of that).I don’t think Shaw is the right player for the CB role on this system either. As you say he’s shot. Shaw is on his last legs. He and Martinez are not suitable to play a high line. With both Martinez and Shaw you will get players who just want to sit next to the CCB. That’s exactly what we don’t want, they exacerbate the weakness of Maguire and to a lesser extent De Ligt (pace).
We are likely stuck with him due to his contract. In a team that’s happy to play a low block, he would be a reasonable option, but not where we want to go.
I didn’t watch most of the second half against Newcastle. I hope that’s what we see of him. He’s got a few weeks to show us what he’s still capable of.Got to say I disagree with you here. I'd say other than Yoro, Shaw is the only CB we've got who will drive forward quite a lot.
He was absolutely dreadful after coming on yesterday. Pissed me off to no end, headless defending everytime they attacked. He's like Rooney/Carrick, where he needs to play a few games in a row to get going. Once he does, he's the best defender we have really.
