Why the feck did we let Regulion go in January, would it have broken the fecking bank to keep him until the summer. Awful decision.
Can’t make sense of it. I assumed at the time it was to free up a slot for a striker on loan. Which I could have accepted as we only have 1 striker

The decision looks dreadful. Another Murtough disaster class no doubt

Good player, but as I said before, unfortunately, unreliable.

I think we should push for Estupiñán in the summer. Given the way we play at the moment, with an overlapping left back, would really suit his game.

Can Kambwala play LB? He looked solid enough when he got given a chance.

The best option we have on our books would be Fernandez, unfortunately we fobbed him off to Benfica. Our best prospect is Harry Amass but he's 16 and nowhere near ready for first team football. Our likely solution will be to push Dalot to LB when Wan-Bissaka is back from injury.

The logic made sense. Malacia was due to come back soon. Shaw was back. Martinez was back. Our fixture list was going down to 1 game a week.

Unfortunately, after we returned him, Malacia had a set back, Martinez got a big injury and Shaw got a big injury. It's just one of those things. Sucks, but the logic made sense. Can't stockpile players in the event that they'll all get injured. It's just bad luck if they do.

Was it reasonable to expect Ty would have so many setbacks? Was it reasonable to expect Shaw to do his hamstring? Should the club continue to pay millions in wages and loan fees for a player who bearly played when we were light at fullback?
Yes, yes and yes to answer your questions. "Ty" hasn't played a single minute this season and had already suffered setbacks before Reguilon left. Shaw is a permacrock who's rarely been able to be relied upon to stay fit for any extended period. And I don't give a flying feck how much money the Glazers have to spend on making sure there's ONE fit specialist left back in the entire squad. The idea that it's unreasonable to properly cover your bases is absolute nonsense. No serious club rolls the dice on Shaw staying fit for five minutes, with his only cover being a guy who nobody's seen since last May. Dalot and Amrabat (speaking of paying millions in wages and loan fees for mediocrity...) aren't fit for purpose at left back.

Edit: They don't seem to have any injuries for him in 17/18 season which is wrong I guess. He played only 11 PL games that season

Yeah, this is exactly what I meant. There is a quality player in there, no doubts.

Genuinely could be the difference between getting into the champions league and not. He’s nothing special Reguilon but he’s an actual left back, with a left foot. Now we have to play Lindeloff at left back for probably the remainder of the season and that throws the team's balance totally off.

I always believed and still believe a fit Luke shaw is as good a left back as anyone in the world, unfortunately we can’t depend on him due to fitness issues.

he has had 10 years at the club and hasn’t hit 300 appearances yet, was unlucky with the break, however with all the muscle injuries makes me think either he isn’t looking after himself whether doing too much or not enough - or will only play if is 100% fit feels a tweak and says feck that not playing.

Or he is just unlucky with those muscle injuries. Some players just get injured quite a lot and Shaw is one of those players. Doesnt mean he doesnt look after himself or that he isnt willing to play when he doesnt feel 100%.

Don't think he's ever truly got over the leg break in 2015 which is sad. We look like prats letting go of Reguilon and Fernandez in hindsight

Difficult situation as he's such a good player, but you can't rely on somebody this injury prone and his backups aren't good enough. We need a new LB in the summer.

United's record in the PL last season when Malacia started: WWWWLWWWWWWWLW - 12 wins (including Liverpool and Man City home) 2 losses (Man City and West Ham away). Nothing in his PL sub appearances to suggest he was a weak link either. Came on for 2nd half against Brentford when already 0-4 at half-time, Villa away when already 1-3, Liverpool away score was 0-5 when he got on the pitch, Spurs away we were 2-1, finished 2-2. He did have some horrible performances in the Europa League.

Shaw + Malacia seems fine to me for next season, assuming Malacia fully recovers from injury.

That's all well and good but when is Malacia even coming back .

We should be looking to sign Davies and Kimmich from Bayern in the summer, as they both enter the last year of their contracts. Would be super if they would take Sancho in part exchange, or even Greenwood.

Normally I wouldn’t dream of suggesting we could take two players from Bayern after the decade we’ve experienced, but they are a mess themselves; and I think both would welcome a new challenge. I think with the new upper management team in place, we’ll be able to sell a really compelling sporting project for the first time in a long time.

So we should get another player Davies who misses lot of games due to injuries to compete or replace our own Sick note that should go well .

And why would you even contemplate to buy another Star player who had spent their peak years with different Club and is probably in decline, haven't we learned any lessons .

Yeah a new LB is definitely getting higher up the priority list. Who do you think we should be looking to bring in for this position?

Depends on the finances available. Obviously Theo Hernandez from Milan would be the dream but probably too expensive.

Time to move on. Totally unreliable. When’s he’s fit and on form he’s brilliant, but in truth when you look how long he’s been here that’s never nearly as often as we’d all like.

Shame but we need to be ruthless.

I don't see him ever returning to being a top level player. He is incapable of running at top speed and you have to be able to do that as an elite level fullback. Midfielders can get away with it and its how players like Giggs were able to adapt later on in his career, but you simply have to be able to sprint as a top level fullback. You could already see it prior to his most recent injuries that he is always running in 3rd or 4th gear and very hesitant to truly sprint which is probably why he commits so many lazy blatant yellow card fouls as it is. It is the same issue with Martial where he is simply afraid of running at top speed because he knows his body is incapable of reliably doing that which just takes a huge dimension out of his game.

We should treat any football we get out of him as a bonus going forward and possibly focus on him transitioning into a backup/alternative center half/fullback hybrid. Don't see how we can go through the summer without signing someone who the club feel can be a starting quality left back though unless Malacia somehow returns and is on another level to what we saw last season which is highly unlikely.

Unfortunately, I do think we need to explore getting in a new starting LB going forward.

He's become unreliable with availability.

Yeah, hopefully this last injury has opened some eyes. It could us dearly that he out for the rest of the season, unfortunately.

I’d make it a priority to get a high quality left back in. Shaw can still be used for competition, rotation and LCB cover.

It is quite naive to think that we could rely on Shaw, he`s had issues ever since his leg snapped in two.
Malacia getting mysteriously injured and out for a year is just terrible luck, but we kind of need all our players to be fit and ready to start more often than not.

I 100% agree that we need more reliability at LB given the injuries this season but with FFP hanging over our heads and much bigger issues to resolve, we aren't getting a top tier LB this summer with what we're likely to have to spend unless we sell Shaw for £40-£50million. I just don't see the desire from the club to move him given that when he's fit he's arguably one of the best LB's in the division.
The clubs historical diabolical spending is going to hamstring us for another season at least so we really have to sell well to have any chance of making multiple reinforcements.

With him and Martinez both out, suddenly I'm worried that we won't make top 4

Great player but really unreliable. Barely just got back and already sidelined.

We need to urgently look for some free agent LB - maybe there are some available. Otherwise we’re truly and royally fecked :(

Davies doesn’t miss “a lot” of games. This season so far he’s missed 3 through injury. The previous seasons, going back to 18/19 in reverse chronological order he’s missed 13, 8, 10, 0, and 5 games for club and country through injury per season. Which isn’t the sign of a highly injury prone player. 13 and 10 are a little bit high (although that includes internationals, but it’s not that much when you consider a 50-55 game season (or more) for him on average.

In 21/22 he missed a further 20 games through Covid and then heart related issues, but that’s nothing to do with how injury prone he is. I took the data from Transfermarkt. Which I believe to be pretty reliable for such stats. He’s 23, and one of - if not the - best attacking left backs in the world, and entering the last 12 months of his contract. There’s a reason Real Madrid are in the hunt. He’s fecking quality through and through.

As for Kimmich, he just turned 29 about a week ago. He oozes quality, and I would ventured would be a very safe bet on a 4 year contract. His form hasn’t been great the last 12 months, but that’s the entire Bayern team. I think it’s a big leap to suggest his best days are behind him. He’s almost exactly 3 years younger than Casemiro. And if we can flog the Brazilian to Saudi Arabia for a decent fee and reinvest it in Kimmich, I think it would be a significant upgrade for us for the next 3 years or so.

My preference would be to go for a player 26 or younger, ideally someone like Joao Neves, but it’s been made very clear that we have an extremely limited budget and the likelihood of us spunking 75m+ on a single player is very small. The next best thing would be to get a player of Kimmich’s quality, who because of his age and contract status, could surely be gotten for a very reasonable fee. He would also be the ideal foil for Mainoo. Providing the legs, grit and pace our Kobbie perhaps lacks, but the technical quality to compliment his abundance of. A midfield of Kimmich, Mainoo and Fernandes, would be excellent. Especially with McTominay and Mount as rotation options.

I believe we need two midfielders, and should be moving on Casemiro and Eriksen, so the budget really has to be used very wisely. Kimmich plus a young player that we can develop, would be superb business for us, if - as I suspect - we can’t afford to go big on marquee targets like Neves and De Jong. How much Onana would cost from Everton would be an interesting curveball.

I don't think he needs to leave as he is a good player and tries but he does need to be a backup instead of our No1 and probably a wage cut too.

Yeah. Malacia's sporadic appearances for us hasn't convinced me that he can be a No1 so we should pursue a new no1 left back or at least one that can challenge Shaw. Shaw would be a great squad player to come in at left back or LCB. With his injuries I'd imagine he'd probably be fine with that role.

Probably we will need to consider him a second choice LCB/LB for next season. What means we'll be looking for a starting CB (for Varane) and LB in the summer, on top of DM and possibly another midfielder (assuming Amrabat will not stay, what seems very likely).

I still think wouldn't let him go, it's worth the risk imo as when fit he's still top player.

This season should show everyone that we cannot depend on him as a starter. He is too injury prone and it’ll only get worse as he gets older.

Why was he rushed back after being taken off in the previous game?
