People have a short memory. Before his leg break he was our best player that season.

Even with injuries and having to suffer 2 years under a manager (jose) who bullied him, he was always world class at defending.

I'm not surprised he's the best defensive fullback in the world. His attacking could obviously improve loads but you don't need to out-and-out attacking fullbacks. You get fine balance with a defensive one (Shaw) and a brilliant attacking one (Dalot). Barcelona had the exact same balance with Abidal and Alves. They weren't a bad team at all, eh?

The leg break happened early in that season and I was starting to wonder whether that short run of games had been a false dawn similar to Cleverley/Anderson in the 11/12 season. Also, several managers had commented on his attitude, not just Mourinho.

But something has changed the last 6-12 months (maybe Luke maturing as an individual) and we are now seeing why we paid all that money for a teenager. Next stop should be securing the England LB spot.

Very solid defensively but looks awful going forward. Why does he still look so big too? I don't care what your build is, a top level footballer should not be that chunky. I'm really torn on him, looks no where near the threat he looked before his leg break.

Why do you care what he looks like? This is like a replay of last summer.

He looks significantly fitter than last season. He genuinely looked to have the body of a sunday league footballer last season. You could see the outline of fat rolls as if they had given him a top two sizes too small. Lo and behold, Luke Shaw did some extra pre-work in pre-season and now he just looks to have a big build.

Because if he looks that big, he probably has more fat or muscle than he should, and it probably negatively impacts his performance. He certainly doesn't seem to have the same pace he used to have.

Looks exactly the same as he did last year to me and think you’re over exaggerating the condition he was in.

Possible. But I prefer to stick with tangible evidence rather than pretending to be psychics.

Saying things like that can only help him get chances in the team when hes talking up his current manager. If he says the same thing now Mourinho is gone, then theres nothing to gain by it.

Remember when people wanted to replace him with Danny Rose? That was a good laugh.

When Rose was Shaw’s age he could barely get into the Spurs team.

I remember having a difficult time on here because I didn't want Rose over Shaw back then.

Same here - I cant understand people wanting Danny Rose. Danny ROSE ?????
Supposedly he was the second coming of Roberto Carlos back then, some people were even disregarding his injury issues. Thank feck someone saw more reason and we still have Shaw.

The opinions between these two have swept amazingly.

A long time back, there wasn't much in it, you could argue either way.
Then Shaw had a long long time where he wasn't at it, and most people thought Rose was by far the better player.

Now it's certainly back in Shaw's favour, as Rose hasn't been anywhere near his level pre long term injury.

Glad we kept faith in Shaw!!

There were topless pics (ooh matron) of him at the time you mention, and he was ripped. So he's just one of these players that are perceived to be heavy.

He was no McNulty of ex Luton fame!

He doesn't have the skinny jeans body frame but that's no biggie. It clearly doesn't seem to impede him on the pitch.

Good in the first half. But second half thought he had the Rashford disease as he held onto the ball too long rather than passing it fast.

He is progressing well in facets of his attacking game. His final ball needs work but the way he is able to dribble out of pressure and carry the ball from deep is very impressive. Fantastic first half, tailed off in the second.

Once again robbed of an assist and there'll be morons on here complaining that he's not good enough going forward.

That cross was great and Lukaku should really have scored. Shaw played well today (again).

He had a terrible free kick in the first 45m though... strange that he took that.

Good game from, felt like he was alone on the left but he ran it by himself and did well going forward too.

Well played again. Looked understandably knackered in the last 15 minutes. The commentator kept saying he was 1 booking away from a 2 match ban but I thought all yellows were wiped at this stage ???

Decent game from him. He had an excellent first half, and put in one or two good crosses. Solid defensively and barely ever loses a duel or 50-50s.

He was trying to push us forward when we were down at 0-2. Didn't come off but good on him.
