Poor on the attacking side. Wouldnt hurt if we can get someone who is very attacking and overlap for fun.

I'm certain that he isn't good enough to be a starter at this club - he will be 24 next year and he's failed to live up to the crazy potential that he had when he was at Southampton. We must look into getting a proper LB this summer

He's OK. Nothing more, nothing less. Is OK enough for United? That's what you have to ask yourselves.

Our full backs just haven’t enough quality going forward , they do ok that’s about it.
Ok might do it for Burnley but not for a club like Utd. I think it’s time to start giving Dalot games like these tonight and perhaps looking for a LB in the summer.

I must have been watching a completely different game from most of the people in here as he put in some cracking crosses and was constantly over lapping. He just wasn’t used unless it was Pogba and when Pogba did put him in he put in some great balls. Seriously don’t know what people were watching. I gave him man of the match.

Absolutely baffling how people can point negatively towards Shaw tonight. He had a practically spotless first half, easily our best player. More underwhelming second half, but the tactic was clearly to give it to Young for a cross (for some reason). Still, in no way was he one to criticize.

he’s gone back to lazy luke again.

I hate when he just stands still with the ball and expects space for him to just open up.

Travel with that ball! Create the space.

His crossing technique is so bad. He always stops the ball dead first before kicking it. It takes all the pace and angle from his crosses, and gives the defender enough time to block it. Push the ball out of your stride then hit it! A rolling ball is always easier.

He needs to learn to time his forward runs much better also.

Would be an amazing Left CB or a left side defender in a back 3.

Just doesn't have killer instinct for a LB at a team like United.

Average player, shouldn't be making the wages that he is. He's a decent enough player but he's nothing more than average for a team like United.

If we are going to keep Shaw we got to have a very dynamic RB so our fowards can get some service in the box from wide areas

Yeah, I thought he played quite well. He's miles better at recovering the ball after we lose it than Young and he does pretty well linking play on the left while positioning himself conservatively to allow Pogba and Rashford (often Martial of course) to completely ignore the possibility of counter attacks.

Longer view, he's now probably the player i'm 7th most comfortable starting next year after Pogba, De Gea, Rashford, Lindelof, Martial and Herrera, and this was the kind of solid B+ I think he mostly provides and I think means we need to sign 2 right-sided players (FB and winger) and a CB before even considering if 31 year old Matic (good on the ball, aging off it) or 25 year old Shaw (injuries) are the bigger worry.

He was alright tonight. He made lots of overlapping runs and was involved in lots of one touch moves. Didn't do much with his crosses but we were too static in the box and Burnley were sitting on their 6 yard line clearing everything.

He doesn't half make me nervous when he receives the ball facing De Gea. I wish he could control it with his right foot or open up more with his left, every time he controls it and by the time he opens his body he's under instant pressure.

His positional play when overlapping is infuriating. He just refuses to keep the width. The groundsman should mark out another line 5 yards inside the touchline on the attacking left wing and they should fit him with an ankle bracelet that shocks him if he comes inside it.

Thought he was solid. People want him to be some dynamite dribbling LB constantly playing in the opponents third and that's not what he is. That doesn't make him shite.

He needs competition but he's one of the better overall LBs in the league and particularly good defensively considering the general lack of cover he gets on his side of the pitch. We have far more important needs and immediate concerns.

Week by week Shaw highlights to me why it's so important we sign a LB in the summer, for competition and rotation. He's serviceable and I'd be surprised if he was ever more than he is now due to his lack of progress since joining. Last night was a passable performance, in the first half he was actually quite good, but in the modern footballing era you expect more from your full backs. They need to be dynamic and at times be playing as second wingers, especially for teams with title aspirations, Shaw's a very technically gifted player and he really could be doing more with his skill set IMO.

He is(was?) so hyped up that half of the fan base thought he was world class. He has never been anything more than a premier league standard left back. He's good enough to be in the squad, shouldnt be good enough for the first 11.

Actually thought he played well last night - best attacking performance in a while.

I don't think any United fan has ever thought he was world class, he showed promise which gave people a lot of hope but I've never seen anyone claim he was world class.

I didn't like his part in their 2nd goal. If he stays with his man, then Lindelof isn't forced to choose between 2 Burnley players to mark, in which case he'll be covering Wood, making it more difficult for him to score. I do think Lindelof made an error in his decision making as Wood was more of a threat and left totally free but Shaw really didn't help him in that situation.

Shaw was far more involved in the attacking third than usual but not much quality in either his shots or his crosses.

It is difficult to dig into all previous threads and posts, but loads of fans here and other forums have claimed him to be world class, has world class potential, on path to be world class.
Not to mention that people still say he was "world class" for 7 games before his injury.

There are 'Klopp style' fullback-come-wingers.

There are 'Pep style' fullback-come-midfielders.

Shaw is the second style. Which is what you want when you've got Martial/Rashford and Pogba ahead of you providing width and crossing but zero defensive protection.

He's fantastic in possession and always offers a passing option up 30 yards from the touchline. Asking to get higher up the pitch on a regular basis would be defensive suicide. He's not Marcelo, but that's clearly not what we're asking him to do.

I know he's a leftback, but he needs to have more conviction when he hits those half volley shots outside the box. It seems like he has no belief it will go in or hit the target and that he simply takes a swing at the ball and hope for the best with a deflection into goal or something

I really hope now that our fullbacks find them selves close to the opposition byline 70% of the game they start practicing drills with forwards in the box. Our attack needs a repetitive no-think option cutback/cross to hit as we consistently get those now with young and Shaw/Dalot. City score a good chunk of their goals from that repeated drill down the channel with the 1-2 and then byline cut back. It’s automatic. It’s great for Shaw because it doesn’t require much intelligence

I like Shaw, but I think he can do more in attack. Too often he provides the overlap but rather than take a man on, get to the byline and cross, or cut inside and drive towards the box to pull defenders to him creating space for our central attackers, he just seems to play short, ineffective passes back or inside. It's like he literally has a switch in his head that says 'Don't go beyond this point'. I can only assume that's coached in him but I think he can and should do more.

Can he do all that??

Not sure if anyone seen but in Yarm a 22 year old went missing after a night out. And last week hundreds were out searching the area for him. In the end sadly a body was found in the river after days of searching and five people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. I don't really want to go into more details than that because the rest is gossip and speculation and it's an open investigation.

Anyway a friend of the young lad set up a GoFundMe page for his family, Luke Shaw donated £15,000 to it (and he also posted the appeals for the missing lad before the body was found).

Giving a considerable amount of money to family he's never met and has no link to out of compassion to an awful situation, he's a good lad and his hearts in the right place. Good on him.

Did not notice him even once. Which about sums him up really. He isn’t shit and he isn’t that good. We should be aiming higher.

I thought he had a good game and was much more involved than he's being given credit for. Would like to see a LB bought to give Shaw some competition though. Which would benefit the club going forward.
