Won't get my hopes up but would be great if he got back into form and shape. Young has done really well as a wing back in 352 but having a left back when we play 442 would be great

I thought he was marvelous, very impressive performance. Chuffed for him and I hope he takes this and really runs with it, you could see the tempo and cadence that an actual fullback gives us on the flank linking up with the attack and making smart natural passes and movement. (No offense to Youngy!)

I thought he was one of our best on the night.

Such a predicament with Shaw. He has so much potential but it’s almost definitely just a matter of time before he gets hurt again and we start all over. I almost think that we still need someone slightly older like Rose to come in and give Shaw time to mature but that’s just way too expensive when we’ve got other positions to worry about filling as well.

How can you say that?

The leg break wasn't his fault at all and who knows what long term damage he carried after that.

Good on him for getting his head down and trying to break back into the squad.

I read in the Summer he'd employed a chef to stop his dodgy eating habits as well.

Give the guy some slack he's obviously on the way back let's hope it continues and he fulfils his potential. Here.

got forward every chance he could which if he keeps up will help Martial/Rashford with more space to play in, overall very impressed and deserved MOTM for me.

See something else, damn he’s quick.. did anyone see that sprint to get a block in. He was the last defender marking on I think a corner then the ball breaks on the edge of the box and he and Smalling are sprinting to the ball and he blasts past Smalling and gets the block in. He was shifting... it must be near the start of the game.

Special mention to Smalling, as at another part of the game he properly opened his legs to chase back at someone during a counter and he too was flying.

Would definitely like to see him as the LB more often than not if we're playing a back 4. Young has done well but I felt his better performances were as more of a WB in the 3-5-2 we#ve played at times, probably as it's a bit more of a natural position to him.

I don't know if we still need to sign another LB, but his re-emergence has made me feel a bit more positive about that position in the team.

Fingers crossed.

He's been good the last couple of games. That said, I still think it's a long way back for him. Even if he can come somewhere close to winning his place back again, Mourinho has shown that he'll readily drop Shaw for the sorts of performances I would argue that others get away with - and I'm not a Shaw apologist by any means - so the next time he plays poorly or makes a mistake, he might well find that he's back on the bench again, Without even mentioning that Young has been doing really well there and it'd be harsh to drop him at the moment.

Personally - and I hope I'm proven wrong - I don't think it's impossible that we're putting him in the shop window as much as anything at the moment. If he plays well, which he has so far, he might continue to get chances. If not, he might be off if we can get a decent bid.

Very good last night. More like that please. He needs to go some way to convince people we don't need to get a new LB (and therefore sell him), but at least he's heading in the right direction now.

Would love to see his big ass running up and down our wing for years to come.

I bet you would, you pervert.

Expect him to stay now, and be a squad option for the time being if not first choice LB. He is the only decent specialist LB at the club that is pacey. I won't oppose of someone like Alex Sandro to come and be the first choice LB and Shaw be the backup. It will be good to have someone like Alex to learn from.

I don't think I said much negative about Shaw there honestly, just that I don't trust him to stay fit which I think is more than fair given his track record here. Most injuries aren't the actual player's fault, it doesn't mean you can just discount them. How much longer are we supposed to wait on Shaw before we bring someone else in?

The lad is a big talent - but at this stage it's difficult to work out whether we are putting him the shop window or Jose really, truly believes he has a player on his hands - that he can mould and nurture as the club's left back for more than a decade (which is how most fans saw it when he first arrived).

There are huge doubts whether the manager truly believes in him and it's a long road back. But I hope he stays - and gets that left side buzzing again, with some penetration, purpose and quality balls into the box.

I want to see him get another start at West Brom.

He's got enough of the stick approach, deservedly at times but when he plays well he should get rewarded. He still has a bad habit of backing off his man which I think Mourinho hates but he's not going to improve sitting on his ass.

Feck me, 2 MoM performances from a player who was not good enough. Who would have believed that.

Young will be back in for that, and rightly so as he has done well. Think Shaw will get a few more home games to rest Young for now.

Said by hardly any one, ever. Don’t build straw man arguments.

The concerns about Shaw were whether he was focused enough on football and physically and mentally ready. No one ever doubted that a fit, hungry Shaw is good enough. But when you wait 3 years for a player to be physically and mentally fit, it’s natural to doubt that he’s gonna make it.

He still has a HELL of a lot to prove. These games haven’t actually proven anything. Only that he’s on the right track and making an effort that is being appreciated by the manager. We need a reliable left back and he needs to prove that he can do what he did yesterday throughout a whole season. Consistently, not just showing glimpses once in a blue moon.

I hope he gets many chances. And I hope he works for those chances and grabs them with both hands. Because he only really has the next 5 months to prove that he shouldn’t be replaced.

I was at the game, and Shaw was exceptional. I can't believe what I'm reading in here from some people, showing pessimism after recent performances. The crowd gave him a standing ovation that was deserved and rousing.

Gotta say I think the ‘brillant’ comments are a bit daft. United were pretty poor last night from front to back (bar Dave and Jones). He did some good things but I hope if he’s really making a comeback he’s got some real ‘brilliant’ performances to come.

He won so many challenges. I thought he was very good. He got stuck in all night. I'd love to see the tackle and interception stats for him and Jones last night.

It's not like it's his fault that he suffered a horrendous leg break

Two years ago. It’s been healed for a year now.
Didn’t he the. Have to have two surgeries on the tendon injury in his foot. The leg break is just one of those things that will have screwed up so much in his leg and it not being active. Coming back from an injury like that you’ll always tend to get other small injuries.

Whether any of it is his fault or not doesn't really matter, we need someone we can rely on and Shaw clearly isn't that person right now. He may well be and maybe this rise in form is the start of that. But again, how long do we give him before we bring in someone else? The only reason we haven't been completely screwed the past couple of seasons is because Blind and now Young have stepped in and done well.

Still want him gone. Two half decent performances doesnt make up for the poor life style, and poor attitude he has shown since he has been here

Was very good today, keep it up and we might not have to be in the market for a LB.

Considering our problems all over the pitch, it'd be absurd to waste money on one of the few positions we've got obvious quality, with a player who looks a cut above the bog standard premiership opposition who so often embarrass us. A little patience is needed.

The parents brigade are back

Very few are blaming Luke Shaw for a leg break, the reality is that we are not a club that carries people because we feel sad for them (that's Arsenal). Either you perform or you're out. Hopefully Luke Shaw performs because then we'll be able to add to other positions on the pitch.

This is precisely why we shouldn't sell him in January. Let's see if he can string together some performances the rest of the year and make a decision this summer. The talent is not in question just his ability to stay on the pitch and be 100% focused and committed.

We are unlikely to win the league this year and the CL is at best a longshot. The rest of this season should be about solidifying ourselves in the league to provide a platform for next season and giving players like Shaw a chance to see if they are part of our future or need to be upgraded moving forward.

Leg breaks like that can be seriously traumatic and depending on the personality can take years to recover from if ever. Not everyone is like Valencia.

Probably everyone wrote him off during the interim and all the negative reports about his mindset/lifestyle. But the last two performances have been encouraging. Sparks of Evra-level of pomp.

Not sure about that, but certainly promising!

Considering what Utd have had at the position since Evra, it's refreshing to see the physical abilities and technical skills Shaw has provided in his last two starts at left wingback and left back. As long as he's playing the position better than anyone since Evra, I'd have a hard time not playing him every match. With the current squad, I like Shaw better at wingback in a 3-5-2/3-4-3 because it get's his much needed playmaking skills closer to goal.

I hope we give him a run of games now as the league appears to be over. It's hard on Young, but Shaw could be our future & we need to know.

Did I offend you with my comments? Sorry if you were one of then ones who listened to the shite by Mourinho and were jumping on a player who was coming back from a couple of bad injuries.
