Hope all the armchair warriors on here & social media are proud. Virtually calling him a coward & a cheat for making out he is injured & not wanting to play. Absolutely disgraceful. Doubt if many will apologise, including the bully of a manager.

It was ridiculous. Why on earth would he have not wanted to play in first place? He was quite obviously injured.

Didn't Jose basically say he was expecting a big injury for Shaw?

2 out of Jones/Smalling/Shaw need to go and for me its Jones and Shaw. It's just too much to carry so many crocks in our defense.

Yeah Id agree with that - and Smalling to be kept for Squad. Id prefer a better quality partner for Bailly

This. And awful management from Mourinho - like you say, just like a bully almost ridiculing him.

That PSV twat

Shaw was playing so well and was always one of the first names on the team sheet till that happen. He could have been so good by now

Jose was right, it was a big injury after all. Now if only he could cut out the cynical tone.

You have to feel for the kid as it's increasingly looking likely that injuries are at the very least going to curtail what could have been a very promising career at the highest level. Mind you, he has probably already made enough cash to not need to work again so it's not all bad.

For Shaw's own good he needs to leave. Must be horrendous having a manager like Jose breathing down his neck at any given moment and imagine him browsing the internet being called a pussy by your own fans.

Whether he's good enough for this club or not is a different matter, but I do think he's been mismanaged and whilst I am not one of those who will bear a grudge against Jose for how he has been with Shaw, it doesn't make it right and nor does keeping him seem logical.

We need a fit left back, who can go toe to toe with the best and be relied upon all season and get on with Mourinho. Shaw is none of these things and therefore is not wanted here.. but hope for his sake, he can rebuild his career and hopefully break into the England set up one day.

The way José said it, it was like he was saying that if it wasn't a big injury he'd be in trouble due to not playing on. It was uncalled for and it just reeked of José taking a chance to have a dig. Especially when Shaw had apparently asked if he could give it a few more minutes to play it off and was told no.

I agree, none of this public discussion and derision of injuries makes Jose look anything other than small minded.

Well this is Jose Mourinho we are talking about. A leopard doesnt change it's spots - he is a top class manager but his personality is questionable.

Did he say that in a particular way or are people just seing what they want?

It makes absolutely zero sense to sell Luke Shaw when he is young and developing. There is nothing wrong with him playing as a back-up option for a year or two to let him mature as a player and person. Why are so many fans insistent on a 21-year old playing every week. If he doesnt want to stay with us then sell him, if he becomes injury prone then sell him.

We will know in a year or two if he has what it takes to play for us; if not then he can be sold for a good chunk since he is young and english. He has a clause in his contract that extends for 1-year; why not use that clause and give him 1 more season to prove himself.

The worrying thing is, even with the injury it did look like he was asking to physio if he can try to run it off

Hope that wasn’t due to pressure from recent comments by the manager. Its not a very healthy environment if all the players think they have to play on even if their leg is hanging off

I don't think it's that black and white. I don't want to think José would be so harsh but, with José's and Shaw's history this year, the comment just comes across that way. Especially with him not wanting to speak about Smalling and Jones with the issues with their injuries, too.

Yep that is the worrying part about all this.

He is probably just sick to death of all the injuries, especially the ones we are now getting at the sharp end of the season. I would say it was just that and not meant as a slight on Luke. However the press will twist anything and use it to clobber any United manager round the head.

I can understand that. Especially due to how José speaks English. It's doing no good going on about it so I'll leave it here and just hope if there is anything wrong it gets resolved.

The comment he made was certainly odd. It wasnt just the press thinking it, I think everyone of us thought the same

Its hard to give JM the benefit of the doubt on this one due to previous comments.

I think the problem is JM always comes across as being a bit sarcastic, when he might not always mean it that way. Another manager could say the same thing and nobody who think anything of it. It isn't always what he has said as how he said it. He might need to have a think about that.

Most likely. Yet some on here think Shaw was desperate to come off and faking it.

I think a lot reacted when they saw the reaction of Rooney and Carrick. If they reacted in the wrong way or their reactions were misunderstood it doesn't take much to get people on the wrong track. You would hope his teammates were upset about the injury and not showing disdain for Luke.

Agree about 1 more season and using the option in his current contract. I'd need him to start 20+ PL games next season for him to get a new deal on standard United salary.

I'm gutted for him. When fit, he's great. He's only 21 and we simply must allow him the opportunity to make it here. I have no issues with bringing in another left back to push for that spot, generally, but letting go such an obvious talent would be poor. Like I said, this lad is 21. For some perspective, Jesse Lingard wasn't a squad regular until the age of 23. He's got so much time and so much more to give.

Mourinho - as well as some of our crackajack supporters - has come out of this weekend looking like a right plonker. As predicted at the time, it was abundantly clear that Shaw, after talking to the physio, left the field with an injury.

He's been really injury prone since coming to us, even taking the leg break out. The poor guy has had a tough time, I really wonder if he will be with us next year.
This injury list is ridiculous, I think we will see massive changes in the Summer. We can't rely on on many players, particularly at the back. We can't go through this every season, chopping and changing at the back.

Sad news. He's never really been able to get going and consistently get games.

Jose was right, it was a big injury after all. Now if only he could cut out the cynical tone.

I watched the interview where he made those comments. I wouldn't say he had a cynical tone when he said it. The difference between reading his words and actually hearing him say it was obvious to me.

We needed a left back in the summer anyway really, but that doesn't mean we have to sell Shaw. He's only in his early 20's. I don't think he would've been a world beater anyway, but if we give him a chance and put faith in him he can definitely become a really talented fullback.
Agree. His age is fairly young enough. He's definitely quality and good potential. But perhaps concerning his injury record tendencies and seemingly affected mentality, we can't rely on him to win us titles and championships yet. ;)No need to sell him, give him time to recover and perhaps a short loan next season would do.

Mourinho's usual way of using his squad is where all of the players would be given playtime, which is why he said he needed about 22/23 players to win each season. No player would be a passenger. Shaw is not yet ready for that.

Rooney and Carrick looked to me like they were exasperated that we had yet another injury. Didn't look to me like they were upset with him personally. At least, that's how it came across to me.

Was about to post the same. Jose has let himself down a bag full with the sarcastic it must be serious to come off after 10 mins quote

What actually happened? I don't remember him even being close to the ball and then all of a sudden the game was stopped and he was in the floor?
