Luke Shaw: ‘People can say I’m fat but I’ve never been out of shape’

Thought that was a good interview. He has some common sense - he shouldn't sign a contract just so united can get a bigger fee. He should sign one with a club that will give him chances. Mourinho is putting it back on him and he has a great professional ahead of him in the team but a 33 year old. This year is a good opportunity for him and he seems to recognize that. Hoping for some momentum and not a stop start season.

Find it weird as much as you like. I find it weird people calling him fat when he isn't. Just because he isn't about 5% body fat like Ronaldo, he's deemed fat. There was a pic of him in training a few weeks ago where his 6 pack is showing, how is that fat?

Photoshop has come on leaps and bounds. Unlike Shaw, who's done feck all for four years.

I get a bit chubby during winter and even I won't degrade myself by saying I have a Wayne Rooney type of body.

It doesn’t help when he quite clearly has stamina issues. Whether he’s fat or not he is t fit enough to be a professional footballer for Man United.

No wonder he's not progressed at all, Adobe after effects is where it's at nowadays.

A bit like Shaw.

Well Luke isn't currently available as a cloud-based subscription service, but who knows what the future holds. As long as we're all wishing the very worst for the lad and mocking his honesty, let's see what new levels we can push him to.

Come on it was a joke. I want Shaw to do well. He's just become a bit of a joke with the constant excuses and promises he'll do better next year because he went gym in the middle east or something.

I find all these jokes about Shaw being overweight very cruel.

Don't you think he's already got enough on his plate?

Well he'll be here next year or he won't. You can cheer him on or take the piss, I suspect neither will make much difference but I'm hoping for the best.

Goes to show how Mourinho is with his players behind the scenes. I mentioned this in the Mourinho thread, but every now and then we hear something from the players that just completely destroys false truths that get peddled on here and used as a stick to beat Mourinho with. Out must be hard to listen to do many things get said about you and you not being able to just come out and tell prior they're taking crap.

He did say multiple times they were talking crap, but then our fans don't like that kind of pissed-off, moody Mourinho.

If you need to address people who think you are fat, and list reasons why you might look fat but aren't really fat. Then you have an unhealthy relationship with you body.

Whether you are fat, slim, athletic, ripped, obese. You acknowledge it and deal with it. Don't do this nonsense of 'I may look fat but I just have a big body type.'

Exactly. His delusion of his body might mirror his delusion of his footballing ability. Any footballer that accepts having a "Wayne Rooney type" of body doesn't have what it takes to be a true athlete.

Rooney could've been the 3rd best footballer of his generation but ultimately wasn't because of a lack of comittment to living the correct lifestyle for a sportsman.

I hope Shaw does well if given a chance and I hope he becomes our first choice left back. But this is clearly about Jose being nice to him because he needs him to stand in for Young and a ploy to get Shaw to sign a new contract so they can sell him for more money.

Do you think it is his weight as to why he's not been playing as well as he should, or getting starts like he should? When ever I've seen him play his stamina does't seem to be a issue.

He never plays 90 mins, pretty much always gets subbed off and looks knackered when he does so stamina probably is an issue tbf. Not that i think hes fat or have any particular opinion on that.

Did any of you read the rest of the article? He briefly talked about his weight (which he was likely asked by the reporter) before going on to say how hard he’s trying to prove himself as a United player because he knows he can. And Mourinho has given him a chance. Fair fecks to him, maybe yous should give him a chance too.

I really want to see him succeed. He sounds like a teenage girl in this interview. Get rid please

Don't even bother mate. This place has lost it.

If you don't feel you are, you wouldn't try so hard to convince people you've never been out of shape. Now be the good left back that you are supposed to be and shut up, stop looking for excuses. You've been shit for years, the club won't be so generous to give you year after year of free wages.

He needs to start taking things seriously, so far it's all talks. "I'm going to fight" is becoming a cliche in Shaw's interviews. His interviews are always positive, including this one but there has never been a proof of what He said.

He also spoke to the official website, not much was said.

“I'm really excited,” Shaw told us in Los Angeles. “This is what you work towards, the start of the season, during pre-season. I'm really looking forward to it and hopefully when the first game comes, I'm ready and I can get to start a game.

”I want to play as many games as possible this season. Hopefully I can cement a place and play many more games than I did last season because, at the end of the day, I want to be playing football matches and hopefully I can do that this season.“
----
“It's nice to get to know the young ones,” Luke told us. “For the young lads, it's great to get to know them a bit more and help them settle in - everyone's enjoying it.

”There's a bit of table tennis, so everyone's playing that, and FIFA and there's also a bit of Fortnite going on. I was playing with the two young ones yesterday, Jimmy [Garner] and Mason [Greenwood]. It's a bit of banter and it's a competition, everyone wants to win. It's good energy and good fun.“
----
We also quizzed Luke on who the funniest, loudest and best-dressed players of the squad were - with some unlikely names receiving the honours...

“Anthony [Martial] makes me laugh, in his own way. But I'd have to say Andreas Pereira, he's funny. I can't explain why he's so funny, but the way he acts and says things, it makes me laugh.

“In terms of the loudest, I'd say Tim Fosu-Mensah. You'd think he's quite a quiet person, but when he's talking and when he's around the place he seems to be quite loud, so I'd say Timmo is the loudest.

”You'd always have to put yourself up there,“ when asked about the best-dressed player. ”Granty looks decent, so does Chris, so I don't know, it's a hard one. Right now, I'd have to say Granty is edging it for me.“

Never quite got nicknames that are longer than the actual name (like Granty for Grant).

Wait... what do you mean Mourinho has clearly had a positive influence on Shaw's determination to become one of the best? That wasn't in the scripts or the agendas....

Quick anti-Mourinho fans, off you go to the Martial thread!

I thought it was a fairly positive interview. He mentions Mourinho a lot and tries to make a case of why he feels Mourinho (and the club) haven't given up on him yet. This season is a massive chance for him and we should try and back him.

“I was in Dubai with my girlfriend. It was funny – I was on my phone flicking through stuff. I got the text and accidentally clicked straight away [to reveal he read it]. The manager was probably thinking: ‘Jesus Christ!’I said to my girlfriend: ‘I’ve just opened it and I must look so weird now.’ It was fine. I left it a little bit to reply because I didn’t want to look too eager.

So fecking basic:lol: Sounds like a 16 year old, not wanting to text back too quickly and worrying about reading a text right away.

Rooney was at his most explosive when he was at his heaviest.

His legs are gone due to injuries and miles. He's actually quite slim now compared to his past but his quick burst is gone.

Obertan had an immense build but was shit.

I don't care what shaw looks like. He needs to play better end of story.
