Not really. Men make up the majority of football fans, and they care more about footballers than women do.

On top of that, players regularly get body shamed if they’re not lean. ‘Fat Frank’, Charlie Adam, Rooney holiday pics, Lukaku etc, it’s stupid and a symptom of a toxic English media but it’s sadly a norm.

Then over the years you’ve had images like this of Shaw

Where he doesn’t appear in the greatest shape and see the above about fat shaming etc.

So it’s not really ‘weird’ per se, more unfortunate I’d say.

There is benefit to having a strong core. There is no benefit of it showing through your skin
