Lukaku - transfer speculation | Gone

I think it's the creation side of things that is the worry.

We still don't have a right sided attacker, and we have dribble boy Martial on the left. So no proper delivery either side.

Pogba will "probably" stay, but he's that unusual attacking mid who isn't a number 10 sort of role, that isn't strictly about assists.

Wan Bissaka ties up the right back position, but it's unlikely he'll suddenly become an assists merchant himself.

It’s a fair point but even last season we were missing some easy chances and Rom would be gassed after 30 minutes. It felt like in the first 30 mins of every game Rom would have a chance that could decide the game and after that nothing happens and he’s just walking/covered in sweat.

A forward that is moving and fit can make the world of a difference. Rashford even lacked that after a strong start.

They can come in with a serious offer or p*ss off. Take the idea of a structured loan off the table and it should be £70m up front, minimum. We would have to pay far more than that if the shoes was on the other foot. Never forget how they tried to fleece us for Perisic.

I think Greenwood is that good, and can be a phenomenon and fight for first choice this season. Signing Ben-Yedder is smart considering his profile - he should be ready to deliver now, and is not a superstar.

If we went for a proper Lukaku level replacement Richarlison would be my first choice for sure.

I think 70m euros over two years is a pretty good deal for us. Lukaku wasn't even a starter for a lot of last season for us, and probably won't be again with Rashford up front.

In this market its not a great deal. Morata just went to Atletico for 50m pounds plus the loan fee they already paid.

We need to stick to our guns on this one

Think if Lukaku goes, we may replace him with Sanchez. Have him play as a pure striker now.

Lukaku has always done better when he's a goal hanger.

With Belgium he's surrounded by quality wide men who get the ball to him in the box, WBA used to play a classic 442 swinging in crosses and Everton the same with Deulofeu and Baines feeding him.

He just doesn't suit a fluid front 3 which is what we're aiming at. His natural fitness isn't suited to doing that amount of running.
Deulofeu barely played with Lukaku (1 season I think and he wasn't even a regular for Everton)

What is this stance with Inter and Perisic? I’ve seen so much resentment on here over that potential transfer. I really don’t see the problem. Utd had a valuation they placed on the player, Inter didn’t want to sell him and so gave us a price that would be too good for them to turn down (if we did offer it) and we didn’t match their valuation? Clubs aren’t under an obligation to sell, just because we want to buy someone. Let’s be honest, not buying him was the right move.

Same. I think Ben Yedder as our only signing will be enough, purely as we won’t be able to shift Sanchez. Promote Greenwood and we’ve got a solid 4 strikers.

Inter coach also talked Perisic into staying so it's much a do about nothing. The narrative that followed is Inter quoted us a crazy fee and won't stop.

He's been a very good and consistent wide player of 10 goals a season in the game that was worthy of the fee asked with two years left of his prime by a club who didn't want to sell.

We should of course get as much out of Inter as possible, nothing to do with Perisic.

Most likely. Or to put it another way, James is our Lukaku replacement in terms of keeping the same number of attackers in the squad. He will take all of Sanchez's time on the wings and then Sanchez will cover for Rashford upfront.

The stance was that they wanted us to pay way over the odds for an ageing player. We want to sell Lukaku yes but lets not have our pants pulled down by them just because they can't scrape the cash together. He is still an international striker and has scored goals wherever he's played, him going for anything under £70m would be a massive outlier in the current market. We probably want rid of him but the loan offer which amounts to £65m after three years? It's almost insulting. The point is we had no favours out of them, we certainly shouldn't be giving them any.

They have enough quality in their squad to sell and raise funds for this deal if they want it to happen so desperately.

So basically you are unhappy that a club wanted us to pay more than we were willing to pay? Big deal, no need for the resentment.

It's quite clear. Inter tried to milk us and are now trying to steal lukaku with silly bids and structures.
We should certainly not do them any favours.

Gonna be a strange dressing room in August.....Two high profile players who wanted to leave yet probably will be still here.....

What difference does it make to you if you get the payment all in one go?
No idea really. There is a strange obsession with that on here. But other teams are praised for it like Chelsea with Morata.

Woody working his magic (lol). Conte is gonna throw a fit there in milan

If anything I would have thought Inter asking to structure the deal that way would suit us given we could then reasonably demand a higher total fee in return. It's not like we're actually short on money.

Hold firm for the 70million up front. They are trying to ride us.
If we wait for all of the fee straight up we aren't selling him, it's as simple as that. Inter can't do it, and nobody else is interested in him for that kind of price.

The total amount is more important than how much we get right away. All things being equal obviously it'd be better to get it all straight away, but there's not really too much difference.

Theoretically, time value of money is your answer. But we as the selling club also need to factor in whether another club will pay the same or a similar amount as Inter are offering in total, and weigh the risk of losing Lukaku for much cheaper versus the detriment of not having the full sum up front to reinvest.

You don't need the sum upfront to invest. You've got buckets of money.

It’s clear the reason - but it’s frankly pathetic from a fans perspective. Upset that someone else won’t sell us a player they wanted to keep!

To be clear, I'm not one of the posters harping about getting our fee up front. Just answering your question as to why, in general, you'd rather get your money all at once rather than in installments, taking into account the reality that inflation will depreciate the value of the money you get paid later on.

To be clear though, it is only the fans saying don't do Inter any favors. The club are just doing the same thing Inter did, holding out for what they consider to be fair value. Lukaku cost us 75m and we have to give Everton 5m from any sell on fee so we need 80m to break even. For a striker entering his peak years and who has certainly not been a failure at the club there is no reason to be taking a loss here. Inter just need to shift Icardi and a couple of the other players Conte does not want and meet our price. If they cannot I am fine with Rom as a squad option next year.

Maybe we don't want to sell lukaku and we only sell him if the price is right just as inter did with Perisic

Leicester aren't looking to sell though so they have strong bargaining power knowing as well that we desperately need strengthening in that position.

What makes you think we want to sell lukaku?

Would be beyond stupid not to let him go. I'd even sell for £55m. He's been absolute shite for us and has openly stated he wants out. What the feck is the actual reason he is still here? They are holding out for a crazy fee despite the fact he's been awful and is not even wanted by OGS.

55m is 5m more then longstaff.

Simply not true. 42 goals in 96 games might not be world class but is nowhere in the ballpark of absolute shite.
