Lukaku to Chelsea? €100m bid + player rejected

Kane's price just went up to 200 million :P

I guess this means that Haaland is not going to Chelsea then!

Chelsea needed a goal scorer to complete the team and they got one. They were never going to win the league without one but now they have one they should be legitimate contenders.

Lukaku guarantees goals and he has improved a lot since he was with us, Conte showed the blueprint of how to get the best out of Lukaku and Chelsea play a near identical formation. This is a big signing, anyone trying to minimize his influence will be proven wrong very quickly.

Agreed

1 goal in 20 for United against the top 6. Yeh he'll score more than Werner, but that price is insane to me.

Can see Chelsea playing with two up top now to get the best out of him, with Werner doing the Martinez role

Not sure why people are wondering about Werner and his place being under threat. He may be the happiest man in the squad with this signing since he now won’t be solely depended on as our goal scorer. Should ease the pressure on him considerably. Lukaku will of course now have huge pressure in his shoulders, though.

I expect them to start together against the biggest sides for counter attacking purposes.

Genuine question for Chelsea fans, would you rather Lukaku for the reported 115 million euros or pay the extra 35 million for Halands reported fee this summer?

Does this mean we will get the remaining £40 or so million Inter still owe us ?

One of Dortmund's directors was quoted saying Haaland wasn't for sale this season and only "if a mad man offered 200 mil Euros" would they find it hard to reject as it would be difficult to convince the shareholders on why they reject such an amount. That in addition with the wages he would command plus the big fees his dad and agent would get just makes the whole operation almost impossible.

Is he the most expensive footballer ever in terms of fees paid across multiple clubs? £28m + £75m + £70m + £120m or thereabouts? Crazy.

With all due respect to Lukaku this insane price again shows football has gone mad.

What business have Inter done this year btw?

Lukaku to Chelsea, Kane to City. Maybe Haaland to United next year is inevitable ? :) Real and Barca doesnt have the funds, and PSG are getting Messi

Mbappe to Real

Must be - according to Transfermarkt his collective transfer fees total £191.30m excluding the £100m they're about to drop on him. Then it's Neymar and Ronaldo after Lukaku I think.

Sold Hakimi and lost their manager because of broken promises about investment.

They also bought Darmian for £2 mil so that'll keep the fans happy.

And a lot of talk of Brozović leaving although that happens every year.

This is why players always give opaque answers about their futures. A month after saying he's definitely staying at Inter, he's off to Chelsea.

Is it weird I have no fear of this signing in the slightest?

I do have a fear of it in the sense that he's a reliable source of goals - up to a certain point (he was that for us too, kind of). If he's used just right, he could be effective on the whole.

So, if Tuchel is a genius - or at least knows precisely how to use him...he could improve them. And they don't need that much improvement in order to become something we clearly have to worry very much about.

As for him individually, though - no, I don't think he'll prove any of his critics dramatically wrong.

Worst case scenario is that Tuchel knows precisely how to use him. Not that Lukaku himself will finally emerge as an actual world beater.

(Probably shouldn't have said that - watch him go on to score fifty next season, mainly against top opposition).

Been saying it all along since he left. We should have kept him and sold Pogba when they fell out. In hindsight we probably backed the wrong player and this season will prove it. Rom is going to come back and smash it up while the Pogba circus continues all season and he leaves on a free or forces a contract that’s above his true value on the pitch. We are then back next summer looking for a 100 million quid striker that will provide movement and physicality and replacing Pogba or squeezing him into our system. If Haaland comes in then fine but if we’d kept Rom and the rest of Oles transfers and sold pogba then I reckon we’d have a more balanced and focused squad longer term.

Darmian fo 2mil is better deal than Lukaku for 100+mil to be honest.

Good for us in the sense that it removes Chelsea from the Haaland sweepstakes. He is a consistent source of goals like others have said but he's not top class so I'm okay with them signing him for 100m.

Lukaku has had a great career playing for some of the biggest clubs in football. I wonder if Atletico will be his next stop. This feels like a throwback to back in the day when the top strikers moved clubs every 2-3 seasons.
Certainly seems the type who doesn’t really want to settle at one club. He’s 28 now, I could see him moving to Spain or Germany for one last big-ish move at 30/31.

He’ll bang the goals in to be fair but we know he’s lacking majorly in other areas. Happy he’s gone there.

Yep, completely agree.
He's one of a handful of absolute top quality #9's in the game at the moment - it's a big signing for Chelsea, and exactly what they needed.

His goalscoring record is immense - 20+ / 30+ goals in each of the last 7 seasons bar one, and a goal a game for Belgium since 2017. People focusing on that one season he didn't reach 20, just because it was with us, is hugely underselling his prolific scoring ability.

think he’ll play up top in a 352 alongside either havertz or werner?

I think people are more focusing on the fact that against big teams he's useless which hasn't changed

If they have any sense they'll work a formation that gets Ziyech whipping those balls in from the right like he did in his Ajax days

Now I am going to bet for Chelsea to win the league.. Sure we will not stop here to spend either. One midfielder will come before window closed and kounde too.

With Lukaku incoming Abraham will be sold. So Lukaku money came from just the sales of our outcasts. Will spend 100 more million to sign the targets we wanted.

Even if that's the case (which I don't think it will be), Chelsea play teams below their quality 95% of the time.

No it’s not weird.

He will score 20+ goals for them, that won’t be a problem. He will still make fans pull their hair out though as well as his team mates who try and build up with a nice move.

£97.5 mil for that lump? Crazy.
Will the press be adding 40+ million to the transfer fee like they do with all of United's?
