Lukaku to Chelsea? €100m bid + player rejected

Guaranteed to score more than 20 goals. Brilliant brilliant signing. He is so underrated Here.

I did not even know this was happening until I randomly saw this thread. My gut immediately thinks underwhelming for that much money and doesn’t make me worry as a United fan. But then again my head says that he does fix a glaring weakness in last years Chelsea team whilst also (potentially) a move which will unlock the better side of Werner.

Immobile is running that league. I have no doubt that he’s still a massive waste of money for Chelsea.

He will score goals but brings little else. Overpaying hugely. He's 28 going on 29.

Seems they were desperate having got nowhere with Haaland. Glad it rules them out of his chase next season.

Expect Haaland has made it crystal clear if he moves to the PL it's only United that interest him.

They were desperate to avoid starting the season with Timo it seems

Overpaying for a 28 year old with an awful first touch and a flat track bully at best

€115m in fee, £190k a week after tax. I wonder how many article we'll see in the media about fee and wages which make him highest paid player in the league?

Would you say he's under more or less pressure than Pep or Ole?

:wenger:

How is this even a question? Chelsea sack managers for just making Top 4, Utd reward them with handsome transfer kitty and a new contract. Meanwhile, Pep can do whatever he wants. Absolutely, Tuchel is under most pressure, given the history Chelsea have with managers.

Jesus what's his pre tax pay then?

Eye watering.

That's a fair point.

It's 45% in UK isn't it?

So around £375k mark. He's highest paid player in the league alongside DDG and Grealish.

No idea what KDB is on, but we can't trust the accounts City put out. They like to pretend they have some semblance of wage structure in there

What else do you need though? Chelsea issue has been going forward as Werner can't even hit a barn. Now they got a strong presence in the box who will finish everything coming in his way.

People still don't appreciate him. I will quote you mate. Let's review this after 6 months.

Don't know why, seems irrational, but there is a different feel entirely to the transfer if it is less than £100m. No idea why I care about this sort of thing.

It's a common psychological thing. It's used by marketeers who price a product at 199 etc

Tuchel has spent nothing so far and won the Champions League.

Zero pressure, even if he does get Lukaku for 90odd million.
That's what Chelsea fans said about Lampard. The pressure is always there to deliver under Abrahmovic. And your spending in the past years is also important as those players are all there as well.

But he's under no more pressure than the likes of Ole I guess and he's got some credit in the bank. Then again we are more patient with managers.

No you’re right, it’s the figure being quoted by all the reliable journos. I was just wondering where Dwayne had got this figure from? Plucked out of thin air it seems.

Everyone else does it to us. Just giving a little back.

Can't believe Chelsea spent money on him again, £124m is madness.

He’ll score plenty of goals in the PL, but it will be his performances/scoring in the big games which will be telling if he’s improved since his time here.

Given that we were doing everything else EXCEPT scoring goals last season, it seems to be exactly what we need.

If that's all you want your front man to do then fine. I certainly wouldn't want United forking out £100m and 375k per week on someone so limited though.

Lukaku has scored over 20 goals in the EPL once in 8 years back in 16/17 (25). Before that he's scored the following league goals.

13/14: 15
14/15: 10
15/16: 18
17/18: 16
18/19: 12

He's scored 24 and 23 respectively the last 2 seasons in the Serie A, granted, but will that translate to Premier League goals? Serie A is a much worse league than the Premier League

He's not that underrated, given his Premier League history as a good to very good forward with one stellar season under his belt.

I'm sure he will do a job for Chelsea, but I'll throw some #doubt onto wether or not he's going to be able to score 20 in the Premier League. If you count cups etc, sure, 20+ easily, but I assume that's not what we're discussing.

Edit: So I had a quick look. In 19/20 he scored two goals against Milan, nothing against the usual top teams in the Serie A, in 20/21 he's netted: Milan (2) Napoli (1) Juventus (1) against the top5 clubs.

I mean, he's a good striker, but he's not THAT good a striker.

Well, we'll get to see very soon. He got 10 assists alongside those 24 goals in Serie A last season.

Excellent goal scorer. But lets not forget his performances for us in the 'big games'.
If Chelsea have aspirations of winning the league or retaining CL they are gonna struggle with Lukaku cos he so rarely makes the difference in the biggest games.
Will easily score 20+ goals mind, just think a lot of them will be against the lower sides.
Still think we did the right thing letting him go.

I think using Serie A as the benchmark is naive.

PL is a different class for just about everything. As I say I'm sure he'll get goals but wouldn't swap him with Cavani at all.
