Luis Suarez

Shite. One excellent season in the PL doesn't make you one of the best three players in the world.

I'd normally agree with you, but Suarez was genuinely far and away the best player this year. Being the top scorer one year doesn't make you the best, but being so far ahead is certainly a good indication.

True. But he has had two excellent seasons in a row (and a very good one before it) and has also been the best player in Copa America two years ago. During this time he also has broken the Uruguay all time scoring record.

I think that he might be the third best player in the world currently, but even if he isn't, sure he isn't far from it.

Completely untested at the highest level. Until he's replicating his scoring feats in Champions League he doesn't belong in the conversation.

He's already shone in the World Cup, was player of the tournament when Uruguay won the Copa America in 2011.

This notion that players are nothing without CL exposure is both insular and ignorant. The same fools who don't rate Totti and Ibrahimovic.

I didn't say he was nothing. I said he's untested at the highest level. Which is true.

Hes been excellent in at least 2 seasons, but held back by a poor overall team. I dislike Liverpool as much as any United fan but I dont think theres much doubt hes either in the top three or four.

I agree with this. I don't like him either but he is the third best player in my opinion.

Also, people saying it will be similar to the Bale situation if he left is a little true but also different. Spurs had no CL football. Therefore the players they signed (while decent on paper) were still not the kind of players Liverpool may be able to attract with a lot of money. Although even if they did spend it well it would be a loss, he is virtually irreplaceable at this moment in time.

On five occasions last season he played against top four clubs. He didn't score in any of those games. Until I see him banging them in in the Champions League I remain unconvinced.

Amen brother, hopefully the two Spanish clubs are thinking the same way as you.

Honestly, who gives a shit where the best players in the world play if it weakens our rivals? Can't get into my head the football fan who thinks "Sure Liverpool are a lot better but at least the BPL is better than La Liga". Especially if they don't go to games week in week out so they're just watching them all on the television anyway.

People are so feeble when it comes to big players at other clubs, so what Liverpool have decent player, did they win anything last season, no they didn't, will they next season with CL to contend with, I would doubt it very much.

I for one in 4-5 years time when Janujaz is the best player in the world want him to stay with us, rather than think that he has to go Madrid, or Barcelona to fulfill all his footballing dreams like seems to be happening more, and more.

Probably just Spanish paper bollocks doing their stirring and tapping up as usual. As much as I'd like to see him feck off two Barca or Madrid, I can't see it.

I think by next season he will be widely recognised as the best player in the world.

A Barca vs Madrid tug of war is good news for us but also for the scouse. If he's going to leave then a bidding war is the best possible outcome for them. I can only see this intensifying if he plays amazing tomorrow, no matter what the Liverpool Echo write.

He'll have to leave Liverpool for that. Scoring 30 goals in the Premiership isn't looked upon as much when you have players knocking in 50 a year in La Liga.

Champions League or no Champions League they'll find it hard to hang onto him should Barca or Real have a genuine wish to sign him.

There aren't extra points for having done it for many seasons.

So someone who had one good season (not using Suarez as an example) should be placed among the best two players of this generation who have performed every season for the past 4/5/6 years?

What? You don't think it makes any difference if you perform at such a level for multiple seasons? A level that's above Suarez at his best, I'll add.

Baffling thing to say.

No it's not. It might make a difference for the would-be contender that it's not his first season, but I don't think Ballon D'ors are generally awarded for lifetime achievement.

We're not talking about who is the best players of their generation. Being the best player in the world is generally evaluated on a more yearly basis.

As much as it'd amuse me if he left Liverpool, I can't fecking stand the way those cnuts at Barca and Real act. We had to deal with it with Ronaldo, Arsenal with Fabregas, Spurs with Bale, and now it's Liverpool's turn.

Okay.. so even still judging on last seasons stats/performances Ronaldo trumps Suarez.. even Messi who had his injuries and was part of a poor Barcelona season still got his 30 plus goals.

Please tell me how Luis Suarez is in either of their league?

Unsurprisingly, the situation begins to agitate. This has been all so hilariously predictable from the beginning. He'll be gone come September.

Does anyone other than Spurs fans and now Madrid fans claim he is the third best player in the world though?
Buying him for 100m and having a season like his last one at Spurs, it wasn't an unusual claim last year.

And the media was all over it.

To be fair, he played nine games fewer than Messi (37-46) and scored 31 to Messi's 41. Ronaldo's record obviously was quite a bit better, but he's also in a better team.

That's not to say that Suarez is on par with either over their careers though.
But Suarez could easily score 40 goals in all competitions if he was to move to Madrid.

Ronaldo's stats didn't really trump Suarez'.

If he improves a bit on this past season, he's well up there with Ronaldo. Of course, the success of their team will matter as well.

If Messi finds his form again, no one touches him.

A fee really shouldn't determine what number best you are in the world, the David Luiz deal puts that theory to shame if it did. Also Gareth lived up to a lot of the hype last season, I'm sure Luis would as well but I still think both are behind Ronaldo/Messi even still.

Didn't he just do the "I stay" interview? All very familiar. I wonder will Liverpool tell blatant lies about ignoring a legally enforceable clause again this summer?
