Theses player plus cash stories very rarely transpire though do they?

Not for the bigger name players anyhow, there's plenty of youth teamers and mid table cannon fodder used as make weights.

But other than the Zlatan Eto'o deal, I can't think of many other big ones.

It's insane how barca and madrid regularly spend these crazy fees for players, without it affecting their future spending. And it's defence where barca need to really spend.

They reinvest most of the money they make back in the club. With our profits we should be able to afford such transfer fees as well but we are run as a business so there is a significant cash flow out of the club whether it's in the form of loan repayments/interests/dividends.

One assumes Messi will still be calling the shots at Barca and playing in the middle. Neymar and Suarez are going to have to be adaptable.

Liverpool do not want Suarez's future to become another distracting summer saga like last year. Want to sell now and rebuild for new season.

Liverpool are holding out for £75m. Deal could be done quickly because Liverpool, Barca and Suarez want a speedy conclusion.

Further talks are expected in days and Suarez's move to Barcelona could be done as early as next week.

Sanchez was discussed and both clubs want to include him in the deal. He prefers a move to Arsenal. Suarez deal will go ahead regardless.

Suarez is set to join Barcelona after today's positive talks with Liverpool. Barca accept there will be no cut-price deal. Will pay £60m+

Even with his antics at the WC I can't be the only one who's genuinely surprised at how willingly Liverpool are selling him?

He's 27, suspended for 4 months, wants to leave and one act of gross misconduct away from being banned for 1 year +. Liverpool don't have anywhere near enough depth to cover for him if that happened. Getting 70-80m and reinvesting is a decent option. I think them being willing to sell is just to get a deal done so they have funds available immediately and begin to go after new targets rather than a long saga that goes on all summer with him leaving in the last few days.

If they manage to get Sanchez plus a shitload of cash they won't have done too badly.

Might sound strange but I hope he stays, if he can help take points off City, Chelsea and Arsenal then hope he stick around, aslong as Jones goes through him in both games and he hobbles off injured

Suarez is like Balotelli. His quality and talent is immense - his personality and the way he behaves dumbfounds most people. I'd prefer both of them staying away from the Premier League.

Your nightmare may not be over as Balotelli is rumoured to be his replacement.

I do envy Real/Barca's ability to buy an absolute superstar talent every summer. If we had the ownership structure they have, we'd do the same no doubt.

Seeing the back of Suarez will be very satisfying. He's very talented, but someone of his filth not being in the Premier League anymore will be great to see.

That is a very good point that I hadn't considered. He really can call the shots with that can't he? If Liverpool try to play hardball over the fee, He has them over a barrel, and no doubt Barca will try to exploit that as a possibility.

Hes a top top player but I would be thrilled to have him out of the PL so I dont have to see his face week in and week out and of course one of our direct rivals is severely weakened (they'll have the cash to strengthen though)

I just wonder how he'll fit in Barca, surely Messi must feel some sort of insecurity with the likes of Neymar and Suarez in the squad? Or is everyone going to fall in line ?

It'll end up being a case of too many cooks. They're all going to get in each other's way and team play is going to suffer. Galacticos 2.0

?

Can't put it any better than this.
Only slightly better way would be Livepool saddled with his ban, and then selling in Jan. But that very probably wouldn't have happened.

The galacticos were fine, the pbs started for them when they lost that balance in midfield by selling Makelele. I don't think there is a pb with having too many top class attacking talents as long as the midfield is rightly balanced

That is the correct mindset. One which I should have as well... but I can't lie. I like seeing Suarez. I just love the drama that surrounds him and just how bloody talented he is.

What he does should not really be tolerated but I enjoy it for some reason.

Ronaldo... Modric... Bale... Now suarez possibly aguero to madrid... Toure and hazard consistently linked with psg it's becoming clear that despite the Pl being the richest league and self titled best league in the world it's becoming hard to keep the very best talents in england

The problem is that none of the English clubs, including us, have the aura about them that Barcelona and Real Madrid seem to.

I'm looking forward to him vs Pepe.

Same. Suarez biting Pepe and then Pepe punching him in face will be pure gold. With both getting suspended for season. Although now that Suarez has used Liverpool for his personal ambitions in every possible way, he will probably behave better.

They've had enough, he's like a cancer. Plays on the back of an outstanding season, one which he may never better, his price won't get any better.
Lastly, have no doubt that he will wNt to go to Madrid or Barca. With the greatest respect to Liverpool, they aren't on the same level

If they planned this wouldnt it have made sense to ensure Fabregas was going to them in exchange!

I think the bite was the last straw. Think they would have put up a fight otherwise.

They bought him when he was banned for biting. They stuck by him and refused to sell when he bit for a 2nd time. Strange a 3rd bite makes any difference to be honest!

Barca's recent domination of Europe was built around youth products and a few reasonable purchases.

true... also if you asked my wife to rank the following cities as somewhere she would like to live:
Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, London, Manchester, Liverpool.
I am not sure of the exact order but I know for a fact the 3 English ones would be bottom!
From personal experience my family being happy with where a job will locate me is equally if not more important than the job and I imagine the same is true for most people (including footballers)
So unless a player is a big united fan or has strong family ties to the area it is always going to be difficult to attract the very best as the money on offer from all the top clubs is massive or a bit more massive but with any of them they will be set for life.

It's not got anything to do with the biting, that's the truth.

It's because they get a hefty price for him, as they no doubt agreed when he signed his contract in december.

Disgraces himself on the biggest stage. Gets his dream move. The ultimate football villain.

Liverpool board are probably thinking, is he worth all this hassle now when we can get 50-70 million for him right now?

Also Suarez seems to be posturing for a move
