Luis Suárez

Liverpool are in the process of having an absolute catastrophe of a transfer window.

It's like when Spurs lost Bale. It doesn't matter what you bring in financially, you won't improve on what you had. Liverpool need to get Sanchez in that deal but if he says no, you're looking at panic stations.

Would like to disagree but I fear the same. Have been really unimpressed with our transfers so far, expected better.

It's odd, because I thought you'd be shopping at Waitrose, not Sainsbury's.

We'll see what happens with Sanchez though. The route of getting La Liga cast-offs isn't a bad one, in my view. That's where everyone should be looking.

Not forgetting that the likes of Lallana & Lambert will greatly improve the overall quality of the squad.

But they won't though.. The quality of the squad will decline with the departure of Suarez, not increase.

If you could manage to bring someone like Sanchez in for 40m and then bring in Lallana and Lambert, there may be a case for the overall quality increasing. But you don't seem to be able to do that, that calibre of player doesn't want to go to Liverpool.

If you spend another 20m on Lovren you have to say it's a pretty poor use of the money.

Ozil is on another level to Lallana. The two aren't even comparable.

I love it when posters talk in the past tense and future tense in the same sentence. Its like space time continuum heavy maaaan. Meanwhile back in the present tense...life goes on.

Mourinho got that spot on last season, dontchathink?
If Mata only had one year left in his career, sure. But we play in the same league and will be competing this year, with Mata in our team. We'll see how that works out.

So, yeah. Liverpool finish in the top 4 once in 5 years and they're competition for Chelsea, United on the other hand have won the league 2 out of those 5 years, were 2nd twice and finished out of the top 4 only the once, and we're not competition.

RAWKsense. Moron.

Rodgers' management is key to next season. Rallying the troops after the disappointment of last season will be crucial.

Obviously we're only part way through the window, but I see Liverpool's issue so far as being the addition of squad players as opposed to first team quality. I get there are more games and squaddies are required, but you have to add real quality, especially when you're losing it in the form of Suarez.

Players like Lallana and Lambert will make your squad deeper but will not improve your first team in the slightest.

Lallana and Lovren will both improve our first team. Lambert won't, but he'll offer decent enough cover. I'd flog Borini to Sunderland and bring in a better back up to Sturridge for part of the money.

I think Jordon Ibe is going to surprise people next season if he stays. I think he could have a decent impact on our first team.

I agree fully regarding Rodgers' management. The players seem to love playing under him and Rodgers (from the outside) seems to be very good with his man management.

Very likely. He is the new Downing/Young. An average player who had a good season and then got ridiculously overhyped. I said on caf before the signing that I hope you get him instead of Shaqiri or even Konoplyanka (who while I have watched only a few times, looked better).

Shaqiri and Lallana are completely different players.

Well look at it this way. We're going to receive a few million pound less than you received for Ronaldo. A player who was only 24 at the time, & still working his way up to his peak years.

I thought the Suarez fee was around £60m, which is IMO a fair price for a player his age and baggage. Madrid paid £80m for Ronaldo.

I really like Rodgers' style of play and wish him well. I'm not convinced by him in the market though. For someone who's so ambitious with his side, he seems to have been chronically unambitious in this window.

Obviously I'll take that back if he snares a few top players later on.

Ferguson has left. Just like Suarez will leave. We both have denial issues.

Snare top players like Sturridge and Coutinho?

It is cyclic. Last season (on the first half) there were alistair and co acting smug like they had just won World Cup when everybody knew that they won't win the league. Now, Liverpool fans act like they had just won the treble, when in fact they won again feck all and are losing their best player.

How is that 150 million valuation of Suarez working out for you?

Already discussed. Barcelona will stay pay a knee-operation-recovering, 4 months banned, biting looney roughly 80million.

My 120 million estimate was pre-last bite. Obviously, no one saw that coming. Probably not Suarez. 150m was frivolous. :)

I'm not in denial. I've always said we'd struggle to be the same force once Ferguson called it a day, but without signing a single player we've already improved on last season with a sacking and an appointment. We'll be right back in the mix again next season, and you all know it.

I'm not suggesting Liverpool won't be fighting for top 4 too, but to suggest Liverpool are competition for Chelsea but United aren't, based on one season where our fortunes were reversed, is fecking laughable.

Lallana's a 26 year old youngster with massive potential to improve. Ozil on the other hand is a 25 year old who is now obviously over the hill.

Liverpool win again!

Not really remotely laughable - it's all yours to prove. United finished 20 points behind Liverpool last year.

A lot of United fans just do not accept mentally that Ferguson has left. It's like a really cute Stockholm Syndrome.

This is one place Liverpool fans sickeningly sympathise. They're going through exactly what we went through. And they'll say they aren't.

Wha, what?

With Sanchez seemingly off to Arsenal, I reckon their 'star summer signing' will be Shaqiri and I don't think they'll replace Suarez like-for-like.

We all know he left, we had a big send-off and everything. I think we even had a trophy to present him with, not that you'd have recognised it.

But, yeah, we know he's gone. We know he's irreplaceable, but the man we have got is doing great work at a World Cup and if you're honest, you're all worried we'll be back to ram your gloating down your throats this upcoming season.

Well things never change, eh? Obviously, I don't blame you, going 10 years without a league title make people create that mentality that things never change.

So Scousers...assuming £70-80m. What players do you think Brendan will buy ?

Apart from Sanchez or James Rodrigues there's no real 'big player' to replace Suarez out there. The 80m will have to be utilised intelligently ala Sturridge/Coutinho and that could take another window.

The impact Suarez had for us was big, but it wasn't as gigantic as some are making out. That's doing the likes of Sterling, Coutinho, Henderson, Sturridge and above all Rodgers' tactical nouse a disservice. I don't want to be blowing that money on Cavani or even Falcao (too injury prone). Not that they'll come.

Of course it's laughable. You only have to see the dopes that are coming out with it to know it's laughable. Yourself included.

Nah. Don't be ridiculous now, Arsenal has nothing to fear. They'll get the fourth place - as always - while we fight for the title.

Only that Swedish bloke that put money on it saw it coming. None of us did or we too would have won some dosh by now.
And that psychologist who predicted that. You really think that no-one saw Suarez eating the flash of men again?

Sure.

Under Ferguson. Now? Hmmm.
Van Gaal and a few players that we signed (and we are going to sign) may disagree. Just getting Moyes out of the club have made us much more stronger than any transfer could.

You might do something but Chelsea and City are over the hill and far away from United now. No one window will fix that.

Three cracked verterbrae for Neymar, fook me that's unlucky.

Wonder what Barca are thinking regards to Luis now and Messi still in this rugby world cup. :)

Now they'll have what £70m and can attract Champions League level players. I think that's a good result even to the most deluded of Liverpool fans.

So far the only players they've signed (or look close to signing) either played for Southampton or Leverkusen. The only top player they were after has turned them down by all accounts (Sanchez).

There's no signs so far that they have any more pulling power than they did last year.

So what would be the starting lineup next year ? I'm guessing Lambert will fill Suarez's role ? Where would Lalana play ? And who else would you like to see bought ?
