Luis Suárez

Yes I agree they are not winning the league, well not any more anyway (With Suarez though, I would've given them a great chance) And yes, I don't think either Sanchez or Cavani will go their. I was just reiterating that a lot of Liverpool fans would have expected the league titles if they have kept Suarez.

You do remember he'd be suspended for 9 games, they could have been out of the race before he could even play.

Yeah, pretty much what Manucho says. The departures of Owen & Torres left a far more bitter taste in the mouth. It seems like Suarez was going to leave us anyway this summer, but he he played his heart out for the club & got us to within touching distance of a league title. Torres sulked his way to Chelsea, whereas Michael Owen did a last minute runner to Real Madrid despite hinting for months that he was going to sign a new contract with us. Now that's what I call shitting on your club.

I thought he'd give us one more year.

Liverpool are in the process of having an absolute catastrophe of a transfer window.

It's like when Spurs lost Bale. It doesn't matter what you bring in financially, you won't improve on what you had. Liverpool need to get Sanchez in that deal but if he says no, you're looking at panic stations.

From RAWK - 'On the positive side, if the fee is accurate, it'll pay for Lallana, Lovren, Lambert and Bertrand with a few million left over.'

Money well spent?

Liverpool have to sell him. It's a no brainer. His next incident could see him barred from the game for a full season or possibly life. That would kill any transfer value. And he's now 27, so when his new contract ends 4 or 5 years from now, he will be worth much less. Let's not forget he is coming off a knee injury where he rushed back for the world cup.

I am shocked at Barca's valuation given the biting incident. Who else could really be willing to buy at this point, anywhere near that price? The choice for Liverpool is clear, selling him now for the release clause is the only option. They were prepared for this as well, that's why they set up the release clause.

It's clear when Suarez signed that contract that a set fee was created for one of the big two in Spain.

They've handled it very well as far as losing your best player goes. He was never going anywhere else in England. Job number one.

I can't answer for Liverpool fans but that whole situation worked out very well for them.

If they'd sold him last Summer, they'd have got £40m and no Champions League to attract players so they'd be getting lower class of player.

Suarez played his heart out for them all season and left the pitch in tears after the Palace game.

Now they'll have what £70m and can attract Champions League level players. I think that's a good result even to the most deluded of Man Utd fans.

Excellent post!! Just one correction but otherwise nail-on-head.

Much of the RAWK stuff is black humour

Oh, I dunno, mate. I read today that the Carroll fee & subsequent sale didn't exemplify a massive loss; only praiseworthy pragmatism on the part of cigar-smoking, Twitter-showboating John Henry. Sheesh.

Hmm which is it? Is this your Liverpool-Arsenal bipolar kicking in?

The two make sense together.

It's a catastrophe to lose Suarez but they've handled the transfer well in terms of not dragging it out, leaving time for replacements to be bought.

It's still been a shocking window, picking up Lambert and Lallana (horribly over-rated). They're going to need Sterling and Sturridge to step up again next season.

If Lallana turns out anything like Ozil last season I will cry. A lot. A f*cking hell of a lot.

So Alistair has a point about over-ratedness. Experience and all that.

75m is a good deal, what might save the team from ending up like Spurs is potentially with the Champions league being able to attract more established players closer to a world class level, but then that depends on them being available. He's 4 years older than what Bale and Ronaldo were when they made their moves (apparently) plus he's a full on nut job, so asking for more is probably too much.

Sanchez could be the difference between Liverpool or Arsenal finishing in the top 4, assuming he joins one of them.

Boris, the key factor(s) to save us from turning into Spurs is not having Levy and making sure we keep our true unsung genius: Brendan Rodgers. Cue the green smilies.

If Lallana would turn to be half the player Ozil is, all Liverpool fans will be delighted. The problem is that he isn't even half the player Coutinho is.

:wenger::wenger: I must have been watching the wrong premier league last season. :wenger:

Yeah, me too. The fact that you try and accept it is just lovely.

Quite a few people thought Spurs would be challenging for the title after they/Daniel Levy were buying up every half-decent player that came on to the market. Their problem was that they tried to change too much, too soon. I can't see that happening with Liverpool. We'll no doubt bring in a quality striker to replace Suarez, but the likes of Sturridge, Sterling, Coutinho, Henderson, & co, will still form the main backbone of our side next season. Not forgetting that the likes of Lallana & Lambert will greatly improve the overall quality of the squad. Plus the fact that Rodgers is a vastly superior manager to AVB, who failed big-time & Chelsea & Spurs.

A lot of wishful thinking relating to Liverpool's anticipated demise on here methinks.

Very likely. He is the new Downing/Young. An average player who had a good season and then got ridiculously overhyped. I said on caf before the signing that I hope you get him instead of Shaqiri or even Konoplyanka (who while I have watched only a few times, looked better).

Are you sure you can't answer for Liverpool fans?

Maybe he needs to win a cup or two before this can be said. I rate Rodgers highly but he has everything to prove. He might have had just a lucky year, we'll see.

I was talking about Ozil. But you're right, you have foresight of how Konop or Shaqiri would come in to a new country/league and blow Lallana's performances away. :wenger:

Just like Ozil did. :wenger:

How many points would you say Suarez earned for Liverpool last season?

Even with the annual racist/biting ban he must has secured so many extra points when he played.

"Scored meaningless goals, not a single one against top 4. So not many really"

(Cue the green smilies who will be laughing at themselves when they realise I've paraphrased nearly single Utd fan over the course of last season)

Well look at it this way. We're going to receive a few million pound less than you received for Ronaldo. A player who was only 24 at the time, & still working his way up to his peak years. We're losing a player, who despite his overall genius, will be 28 in a few months time, & has attracted just as much as negative publicity for the club as he has positive.

I feel we're getting a very good deal out of this. & if you think it's 'lovely', then we're both happy.

Rodgers' management is key to next season. Rallying the troops after the disappointment of last season will be crucial.

Obviously we're only part way through the window, but I see Liverpool's issue so far as being the addition of squad players as opposed to first team quality. I get there are more games and squaddies are required, but you have to add real quality, especially when you're losing it in the form of Suarez.

Players like Lallana and Lambert will make your squad deeper but will not improve your first team in the slightest.

I am absolutely sure that prices of players haven't changed since 2009.
