The more he plays and the more I wonder why was SAF so stubborn in not playing much last season ? I mean he wasn't extraordinary but he's a breath of fresh on the right wing.

Never forget Sir Alex brought Nani back for the Real Madrid game, in what he knew would be his last crack at the Champions League. Nani probably irritated Sir Alex by not signing the contract but he always rated him.

This evening's gem from BBC texts:

Mike in Oxford, via text on 81111: David Moyes needs to stop persisting with Nani, Young and Valencia; all have been persistently poor. Kagawa and Januzaj on the wings sounds so much more dangerous.

...two wrongs don't make a right, mate. But 10/10 for slagging of Nani when he's not even playing.

Would have liked to have seen him on tonight linking with Rooney and Kagawa, he'd be my first choice for the right over Valencia right now.

Was poor, his worst game this season, but I don't understand why they booed him. We're not a bloody circus.

I can see why they booed him as he was just walking off with us being 2-1 down at home to Stoke..

Poor game, good cross for Rooney's header but other than that. We won 3-2, I hope anyone who boo'd him or has tried to justify booing him will apologize because it turns out he didn't take too long coming off the pitch

He was shit, but he is still one if the very few real game changers we have in the squad. Hasn't found any real form this season yet but will come in time.

Im not his biggest fan, but I do feel he will be important this season

He's not the first player to walk off while we are losing. Cop out excuse. He was shit, but that in no way justifies the booing.

A shame that this needs to be argued really

Big fan of Nani, but he was beyond terrible today in fairness.

The booing though is mental. Although its been evident for a long time that the OT crowd don't like him that much.

Exactly.

I didn't really see the walking off due to a shitty stream, but did he really do that? If so I think that's incredibly stupid and unnecessary.

Still doesn't justify the twats that boo our players when we need the support.

Played shit but still appreciate his desire to make something happen over the slow, self-entitled play of others.

He was pretty crap today but i still think the boos were well out of order. That'll have not done anything positive for his confidence.

I do like Nani though, i think he is one of those who has it in him to make something happen. Let's not forget, it was his cross that led to the first goal.

I love how you lot have no problems with singling out poor performances from Valencia, Rooney etc yet excuse Nani by saying he wasn't the only one to play badly. Shocking performance, up there with the one against Chelsea away last year.

He's had games where he's shown intelligence, like his first game this season where he created with his passing. It was just an off game where his choice making wasnt good enough

Had a bad day at the office today but still showed what he is capable of with the cross for the first goal and that's why he's still a valuable member of the squad. Needs to play with more urgency sometimes.

Poor game, it happens, not the only one either. Would like him to run down the line a bit more. I'm happy to see he has some freedom but we also could use him stretching the game and if he is going to try and bounce of players he needs to be willing to stay on his feet better than he was today.

He was awful today but booing him was horribly pathetic, really, some fans are showing their second face now once Fergie's gone and we're on a bumpy road.

He was absolutely fecking useless today , when Ronaldo played for us we could handle the fact that he didn't track back much or help his full back but Jesus Christ not when someone plays that badly , Ralph Milne played better than nani today

He was poor and as a result got subbed. Not sure how that justifies him getting booed, cant think of many players that played well today that started (outfield players)

I'm one of his biggest fans and think he can be a world class winger, but that was awful today. Maybe his worst ever performance for us, took way too many shots, couldn't hit the net, had 1 good cross to set up Rooney though before van Persies goal.

That's over-egging it, he was poor but I'd rather see any player getting that involved than a listless nothing-y performance, which he's turned in one or two of in the past.

The fact he created our equaliser immediately puts it above the worst level of performance. And even though the amount of long range shooting was stupid, when you look at it objectively he probably had about 4 of them, of which 2 were in reasonable situations and 2 were totally daft. So realistically, if you take those couple of pointless shots out of the equation people would just be talking about a fairly poor but mixed game.

And he was better than Young has been in at least half the matches he's played this season.

I didn't mind him actually having a go at goal, but that one from nearly 40 yards which rolled out was just terrible. We had the ball and our attack had good shape, whilst Stoke had alot of room behind them. We looked in a good position. And he hits a 40 yard scuff. I think that was it for him at that point. Crowd seemed to be all over him after that.

I actually think he should've left in the summer. The fans just seem to hate him, he can't have a bad performance without them going mental at him and today was a new low.

Nani tends to be a bit like Anderson...looks world class until he has signed a massive new contract then the performances seem to dip after that

Nah, he'll hit his straps OK, and everybody will get behind him. And all the dickheads who like to slate and boo him will re-write history and claim they've always loved him.

I'm far from a Nani fan, but it shows how fickle fans are. He's been our best winger this season IMO and this was his first poor game. Even then, he still contributed by creating our goal. The same really can't be said about Valencia or Young.

Deserves same treatment which Young got... being kept out. Only fair.

They've only made it worse by booing him. The next time he has a chance to shoot from distance or try something special, you can be sure he'd think twice. It's only natural to lose confidence after something like that.

If you came to the game today and booed Nani then do yourself a favour and never fecking come again. What good does booing your own players do in any situation? Simpletons.
