I agree. Moyes must rate him otherwise 5 years doesn't make sense.

I just feel frustrated that he never gets an extended run in the side. First sign of a poor game and he's out of the side.

is he not injured? When is the ETA on his return. I was a really big fan of Nani and always thought he was the one player on the team that had the ability to literally destroy a team single-handed if need be. He has so much ability. Unfortunately, he has stagnated. He now looks hesitant, he never had a brilliant football brain, and has lost his spark which leaves an average player.

He needs lots of game-time to get back to his old self. The problem is, he is a luxury player and Moyes can't afford to field a luxury player that can potentially be a star or do nothing and be wasteful. Moyes needs players that are willing to work hard for the team i.e. Valencia which leaves the impact/flair players i.e. Nani, Zaha out in the cold.

Nani's agent is Jorge Mendes, I seriously doubt a high profile Portguese player would leave him..

That's what I'm thinking too. His injury makes it easier for the hacks to spin all sorts of stories. Hopefully there's nothing to any of them. We could do with Nani in the second half of the season, that's clear as day.

I'm not sure players who are eager to push through a move to another club generally sign 5 year deals?

Heh, no - you wouldn't think so. I think this stems from a very vague idea that Moyes doesn't really care that much for Nani. Add the old Juve interest in him and you end up with a story - a very thin one.

Not sure Moyes has "come around" to him personally. I actually think there might be an element of him not trusting Nani in the same sense as he does Valencia.

The whole "hes one of the best wingers in the league" is getting very old. We simply havent seen it from him. People blame the lack of consistent opportunities which is fair enough to mention but even at the height of his powers he was inconsistant.

Its an odd situation whichever way we choose to look at it. I deffo dont see him here next season anyway. I still think there a strong chance he'll leave in Jan.

I do tend to agree with you on this to some extent, but he has delivered in recent times when called upon. Getting sent off against Madrid was an absolute disaster to be fair as he was having a fantastic game till that point, but when you get sent off it tends to be the thing people remember, and from the manager's perspective it wont do much to encourage a greater level of trust. Forgetting about what might have happened in terms of the result if he hadnt got sent off, its be interesting to think about what it might have meant for his form and number of selections as that season came into its final months.

Its not like we are just thinking back 2 or 3 years to the player who was one of the best wingers in the league, he has shown isolated glimpses of that player since then. But as you say, always inconsistent and particularly now. He has had shite luck with injuries, that is the final hope, that he can put those behind him and get back to where he was. Unfortunately that so rarely seems to be the case, when a player has such massive problems with injury they often seem to be blighted by it. RVP was one who seemed to buck the trend but now he's back on the table again. Hopefully Fletcher will prove to be an exception. But as a rule of thumb it doesnt look great for Nani and injuries.

Ive generally always defended him in his time here. I do think your point about the Madrid game is bang on the money. Sounds stupid but if that matched panned out differently I doubt we'd be talking about him in the manner we are. Such a shame really.

As you say time continues to moved on and looking at Moyes and his current position I dont see Nani as the type he'll stick by and go to "war" with.

Not sure what my point of posting this but, apparently was down in London watching the Nets vs Hawks. Bunch of other premier league players were there. Guess my point is that probably no where close to returning.

So all the premier league players there were injured?

I wouldn't mind if he left but although he is very inconsistent and often crocked, he actually has some reasonable level of talent and ability. That cannot be said for a number of other players in the squad who are simply playing way above their level or are past it.

Hard to believe he's already 27. I would imagine he could be used as a lure to bring someone like Vidal to OT.

Nani has the talent, but he just doesn't produce. Its been the same story for years. He wont get better under Moyes.

Time to get rid.

Except the 2 seasons where he was consistently playing really well..

If we want a more effective style of play he's one of our best for that. Passing, moving and taking players on comes naturally to him. Getting him on the same pitch with the likes of RVP, Rooney and Mata should lead to better attacking football all round.

Feels like he's been away for too long. Valencia and Young have hardly justified their inclusion.

Is there any update on his injury at all? It will be interesting to see what Mata's signing means for Nani, Valencia and Young. Surely one of them will go sooner rather than later.

2 seasons out of 7.

Bravo Nani!

And how many was Ronaldo the best player in the world? Doesn't change that he was the best player in the world for a while during his time here. Nani clearly lost all momentum after he suffered an injury that took him out for a while when he was playing well. After that he hasnt had a run of games in the team, which we know he needs if he's going to get back to somewhere near his form before the injury. Unfortunately over the last year or so its only looked less and less likely that we'll actually give him 5 or 6 games in a row to get into form, because he isnt Valencia or Young. By now we pretty much know that bringing him in for a game or two after months of not playing doesnt work for this player. He needs to be starting week in and week out and then you might see the best of him.

I really epect Valencia and Young to be sold in the summer. We should og for Mata, Januzaj, Nani and Zaha on the wings. That is amazing amount of ability if you ask me.

Btw, Nani is training and back.

Absolutely. I am hoping his return will be similar to when he disappeared after game against Wolfsburg for a couple of months due to injury, reports were rife well into the January transfer window that he was on his way out and many on here were chomping for that to happen. He returned playing against Hull if not mistaken, on the right wing and played a blinder. After that he got the consistent run he had not got before and lead to an extended period of being one of our top players. Heck it even spawned the who will be better Rooney or Nani thread.

At some point I do hope he is given the same chance to fail a game or two and still play the next 5 or 6 games like Valencia has got. We'd probably have one of the best wingers around.

2 seasons where he was among the top wingers in Europe, then his first season where he was young player but still looked very good and exciting, while also adapting to the league. Then last season he was always injured (and mostly this season). Really looking at it, he had a shite 08/09 and the first half of 2009/10, and then was injured for most of 12/13 but apart from that has been as expected or played really well. People just love to downplay what he's done for us.

Really? Where did you find that?

Can't be bothered to look it up. But, it was reported two days ago.

Well, I tried to find it with a quick Google search, but did not find it. But, the news was from United, so it should be the case.

OK, hope you're right or I'll kill you. Cheers.

He's consistantly not Valencia or Young, which should be enough to see him stay here... But probably wont be

I'd always keep the vastly more talented and superior player who on form can add to the first team, rather than the guy who works harder in training but isnt talented enough to improve the first team even if hes on form

Meh. Not top class, almost certainly never going to be top class.

Certainly deserves more of a chance than Valencia or Young but wouldn't exactly be a massive loss in the summer either. He can't really have any complaints if he gets sold, he hasn't done anywhere near enough with his potential.

Not only has Nani not been in form for 18 months, he's not really been fit for 18 months either, it's a bit of an issue. He's gone from never having a hamstring problem last season to having them pretty consistently. And I like Nani, I was delighted he signed a new deal, but his injury problems are very concerning, and if they carry in for another 6 months then he needs to go.
