If that was an average game for Nani, it really shows the gulf in class between him and most of the other players on the pitch tonight, because he was probably our best player
few moments of brilliance = a goal and an assist.
otherwise wasteful.
Key player for us though.
I can't believe the debate they just had on Sky. Richard Keys asked John Collins if he was a Nani fan and Collins responded with the usual cliche that he's hit-and-miss and that he doesn't do it often enough. I'd put it out there that Nani has been the most productive player, overall, in the Premier League in this calendar year. According to stats I have, he has scored 6 and assisted 11 this season, whilst he scored 3 and assisted 10 last season (most of which came in the second part of the season)...
Best winger in the league.
Just another in a long line of examples of pundits not knowing what they are talking about and resorting to repeating myths. It's the first thing people always say about Nani, "he's inconsistent", it's nonsense and it's annoying to read/hear repeated all the damn time.

I think usually when people have said we have a weak spot in right back, I think they're saying that because up until Rafael stepped up, we didn't have a definite right back for a number of seasons. Now that Rafael has stepped up and looks to have claimed the RB spot for himself, it may not be seen as a weak spot. It's more annoying when you consider they get paid for such insights. In fairness, Collins isn't a punditry regular and probably doesn't even keep on eye on things as much as the likes of Redknapp, Gray etc...
Another annoying thing is when people talk about our right back "weakness." People are still not seeing just how fecking good Rafael has become. He's the best right full back in the league - so frigging tenacious, it's untrue. And his boundless energy is being gilded with some fantastic skills. I await someone to suggest he's weak defensively - but there's been absolutely no indications of that this season.
In great football teams, you get little partnerships forged all over the field... the centre halves, the forwards etc, and so I think it's great that Nani and Rafael continue to improve at such a pace and they look more and more at ease with one another. They've got the capacity to rip sides to shreds!

I don't normally like the comparisons with Ronaldo, but bloody hell, he's becoming frighteningly effective even when he's not at his best. Left or right wing, it won't matter when he has the sort of self-belief he does at the moment. In truth I always knew he had the potential to do this, but had doubts about him being able to do it consistently. On this season's form I was dead wrong.
For the record, Rafael also dovetails quite nicely with Tony V aswell. Options, options, options!
Often its Rafael forced inside when playing with Valencia. For me, it doesn't work as well.

That "goal or assist" productivity stat for Nani must be the best in the league, surely? I'm guessing he averages over one/game?
Also not among the players to choose from in team of the year:
UEFA.com - Community - Team of the Year Adam Johnson got the nudge ahead of him, naturally...
I'm going to send Uefa my Nani MotM log.
According to Fantasy PL, he's scored 6 and set up 11. Ridiculously productive. He's setting up or scoring a goal every game. You can't really ask more than that. Well actually, you can! He's shown an eye for goal - I reckon he can hit the net even more consistently though.

Other than being responsible for our three points, he was quite wasteful.
he seems to miss several chances, but the ones he does put away make them all seem unimportant.
Goals + assists:
1. Drogba - 9 goals + 9 assists = 18
2. Nani - 6 goals + 11 assists = 17
3. Tevez - 12 goals + 5 assists = 17
4. Caroll - 11 goals + 6 assists = 17
5. Berbatov - 14 goals + 2 assists = 16
Only midfielder in the top 5 but listen to John Collins and he'll tell you he's inconsistent, read the papers and they tell you Nasri & Bale are better, log onto UEFA.com and you can vote Adam Johnson in the best team of the year but Nani is not even in the list
Expected as much for Nani to be around the top. Have to admit, i'm stunned Drogba and Caroll make the list though.
