Luckhurst: United prepared to move for a holding midfielder in January

Saul Niguez or Camavinga would be fine.

if we have ended our interest in Trippier due to Dalot having a "strong" preseason then we need to bring in one of the young kids who have superstar potential like Camavinga. However , they may not be willing to play 30m for him. So why not look at the young kid from Barcelona who would cost half that amount.

I'd sign and loan him out. When the market gets better, it's a guaranteed profit to move him on if he doesn't make it here. But for some reason, we don't do that here.

Glad to hear we're prioritizing a midfielder. RB cover would be ideal but Dalot could do the job when needed. Shift out Lingard and Pereira and sign one of Neves, Saul of Camavinga. it really isn't all that complicated.

Yeah good to hear we are at least getting that right but until we come down on our valuations of either Jesse or Andreas then I have this horrible feeling we are going to be lumbered with them until January at least. I agree those players are very obtainable but clearly selling players is still an issue along with the fact it feels like Camavinga only wants PSG and is being pushed towards us by his agent which isn't really right.

technically that is what we are doing with Pellistri as he's headed back to spain for a year long loan but yes, it would be a wise investment to bring in the barca kid if you can get him for 15m

The muppet in me still wishes we make a offer Barcelona cant refuse for De Jong and they have to let him go. What a midfield signing he would be.

You guys better pray we get some of these players out the door otherwise, this is the end of our window.

Yeah that would certainly be on the same level as our last two signings this summer

United's biggest problem is clearing out the deadwood.

We have hardly any fat to trim from this squad. Everyone is reliable and it’s only Bailly and Jones that could be described as deadwood as they’re forever in an injury cycle.

Lingard was probably on that list but he’s just had his best 6 mo this in two years, plus he’s fit as he rested all summer.

We should sign Kelvin Philips. Just cos Leeds are our feeder club. Hehe.

Nah he hates United there have been a few stories.

So did Alan Smith. But Leeds are our feeder club.

PS) just to be clear, I am not going to be saying anything relating to Leeds that isn't extremely partisan

Relaible is different to being of the required quality. Lingaard, Jones, Periera, Chong, definitely need to go.

The prices we want, on the face of it look ridiculous to us, as United fans who get to see the player a lot.
However taking into consideration the market, 20m for Pereira makes sense especially as hes only 25.
Lingard is 28, but his price is dependent on how many years of his contract he has left. He showed the last six months what he has to offer so you would think 30m for him would be a great purchase for one of the clubs like west ham, everton, villa, leicester, etc. Teams who will not have opposition sitting back thus you can take advantage of Lingards strengths.
Asking for 5m for a Dalot loan, and looking to put in a guarantee to buy after, again, is reasonable.

United have often been accused, especially by their own fans, of under selling players. And its true. Part of the reason is because of wages , and another is because we just are bad at planning. I dont know if theres any other reasons cos you see City, Liverpool and Chelsea sell unknowns for huge prices , and again, is that due to low wages?

I think a midfielder like Matic would be huge for us, somebody who isnt a destroyer but is smart in terms of positioning and playing out the back and passing range to get us on the front foot. Honestly think that is more important than RB. Trippier for 10-15 would be great but I dont think would be a game changer. A DM however could be for us.

£20mil for periera
£30mil for lingaard

Are you ed woodward? Try £5mil for periera to get rid of him as he would struggle in a top 10 championship team.

£15mil for lingaard. Fair price and gets him out of the door.

It would be a massive downer on our business this summer if we don't sign a midfielder to be honest. It's a must.
I'm way too excited to see Varane and Sancho in the starting 11 wearing the United red to experience any downer emotions.

However liverpool and city get rid of their deadwood and not give them new four year contracts.
You only think that. I could point you to Origi etc as to why that isn’t true. Mendy flopped 3 years ago and is still taking up space for Pep

We could easily sell Lingard after his loan spell at West Ham, if we really wanted to.
They'd be half a dozen takers in the Premier League alone.
Dan James too, there would be takers, no doubt.
Agreed.

James: £30M
Lingard: £35M
Pereira: £25 M
Total: £90M

That would fund Declan Rice for £60M and we'd have enough leftover for Trippier.

Think you are missing a decimal point in those numbers. You are expecting someone to pay us essentially what we just paid for Varane for Jesse? Both are in the last year of their contracts and that is the only similarity. I don't think there is any credible interest in James or Pereira at all as the mid to lower PL teams seem to have been hardest hit by COVID and don't have anything to spend, the only small club spending money is Arsenal and James would never make such a big step down.

I don't think your wrong in what you have said. I do think the problem we have is we hold onto mediocre players for far too long. Other clubs seem to be far better at getting these type of players of their books- we don't!

I'd say if you halved all those numbers we'd still be doing well to shift all 3.

That seems like a good shout. I hear he's good at finding deep space, can play as a 9, and could even be made captain after a few seasons.

I think he's a very promising young player that we would do very well to get while he is still fairly cheap. He is a very good player already.

James is a Welsh International and still very young. He isn't being sold for £9-12m. That's madness.

We'll sell him for a profit minimum.

Don't think we will make much of a profit. We signed him when it was thought he could be pretty special. I would say he now seems like he'll be a below average PL winger.

James is one of the few players there who actually would go for a profit + as well as have multiple teams interested. £15-20m easily
