Luckhurst: United prepared to move for a holding midfielder in January

I know you said other poster, I take that as you saying me and also one other person, as though me and that person are saying the same thing and my point still stands.

You said "You’re only the 2nd poster to refer to carrick as the crab"

No I'm not. I didn't call him that at all, I simply pointed out other people said it at the time and I feel its pretty clear that I was using that as an example of people being unfair, not having a go at anyone.

Now, if you're saying that only one person EVER actually called him that and I'm the only other person to reference that term then that's just wrong. I know because I caught. A lot of flack for defending him about it at the time. If you Google Michael carrick crab you'll get loads of results.

I've literally done nothing wrong, you misquoted me and said I had said something I hadn't and when I pointed it out you've had a go at my attitude and had a little dig about me having multiple accounts with zero basis. I've no doubt that happens but it's a bit shit to just level it at me when you're the one who has misunderstood what I was saying.

Maybe I was a bit defensive but I've been a member on this site for a while, I don't spam, troll or really post all that much, I've weighed in and defended a player only to then have an admin on the site to say I'm doing the opposite and have a pop at me.

I never actually said what I've quoted you telling me I said. I know it's a long reply but I feel like I've been taken really wrong on this one and I'm just trying to be clear.
All the google articles are other sites. I was referring specifically to Redcafe.
But look I’m prepared to take your word for it and move on. Apologies.
I hope you realise that sometimes we have to call out what we see; sometimes wrongly and sometimes right, but always for the good of the boards. Generally people get banned because they are disruptive or causing problems on the board so we do it for the good of the majority

Hargreaves played on the right for us in the final. Cool story though.

He played as DM most of the year. In the final he played on the right of a 3 in midfield in a lopsided 4-3-3 (Carrick and Scholes were the other CMs) so Ronaldo could stay up on the left to take advantage of Essien roaming.

cool comeback, though,

Plus did he play the whole season at RM? Thr way he made it sound was that he was always a winger for us than a midfielder.

You said we reached semis in 2007, and finals in 2009 and 11, but could not win it because we didnt have a DM like Hargreaves. Your point was having Hargreaves in the final in 2008 was the difference("won us the CL"), which we couldnt in the other finals, because we didnt have a DM like Hargreaves.

Therefore I pointed out Hargreaves didnt even play as a DM in the final. Where Hargreaves played the rest of the year is irrelevant, as we reached the finals in other years w/o a dedicated DM like Hargreaves anyway. And it wasnt Hargreaves at DM that made the difference in the finals.

So where Hargreaves played for us mostly, or whether he would have helped us in the other finals is not relevant.

Thr way he made it sound was that he was always a winger for us than a midfielder.

No. He made the point that having Hargreaves as the DM was the difference between winning the trophy in 08, and losing in finals in 09 and 11, and I pointed out Hargreaves didnt even play as a DM in the finals in 08. I never said he was always a winger for us.

I didn't refer to him as the crab. I said others did.

If that's all you took from what I said then I don't know, read better? Your response is odd, given what I actually posted. I clearly referenced other people using that term in a manner of defending Carrick.

"Fred is actually now at the point of being really under rated. Our fan base tend to do this, Carrick used to get absolutely pelted. Our fans called him the crab."

You've ignored the entire post, seem to have gotten what I was saying completely wrong and then what? Alluded that I'm some other poster you've banned?

Disagree with me if you like, that's fine but this just seemed way off the mark and if I'm honest, pretty childish.

You realise I wasn't saying I agreed with that or actually referring to him that way, right?

I love a good nickname but I can't recall anyone calling Carrick as the crab

Just grabbing some of the first results on Google and then twitter, there's a ton more out there. It was definitely a thing.... I had many an argument after calling people out for using it. He was often accused of being slow, ponderous and only ever passing sideways or making "safe" passes, hence the "crab". I can't be bothered getting more, I feel I've made my point.

So it’s either crab-wise Carrick, or Anderson, who is forward thinking but loses the ball much too often. Pick your poison United fans.

"The Crab" I wonder how he would have faired if we had done better in Europe? What u think?

Although once having a reputation as something of a ‘crab’, in that all his balls would be played sideways, he’s recently been much more progressive.

Carrick has nowhere near enough energy or flair. He strolls about and seems to need a lot of time to pick a decent pass. I'm surprised his nickname isn't The Crab with his liking for sideways passes

had too many idiots on here calling him a crab and a sideways and backwards passer only

Very much looking forward to the giant crab monster bursting out of Michael Carrick.

Then there is the crab, Michael Carrick. Often derided for his 5yrd passes side to side or back into defence

Fair enough. Although, at no point did I reference this site specifically and neither did you. I try to be careful with my words and felt it was a fairly clear reference to a general narrative.

How am I supposed to know ? If I was referring to a specific site or user, I would have said so. I referenced "our fans", that was all, it was dead high level and generic. I didn't imagine it would cause this much of a stir haha. I don't really have a "home" on a forum though so I may not be used to thinking that way. I tend to flit about various forums and the occasional social media without really getting involved.

I'm not meaning to sound like a bellend either by the way so if it comes across like that, my apologies.

I think that I clarified my point. Regarding golden blunder we agree on some points and we disagree on others. For example I would have had phil Jones kicked out of the club something he disagree upon. However I assure you that he is one of the nicest and fairest admin/mods in here. I can't think of a time when he unfairly banned/infracted me

Fair enough, think we mistook each other's intention and spoke past each other a bit. No harm done.

I agree that Rashford has work to do to regain his form and place in the team once he has recovered.

But I'd go Greenwood right, Sancho left and Ronaldo/Cavani up top.

Greenwood has earned his spot with his performances in the first couple of games and I feel he is on the cusp of taking off into the stratosphere.
Definitely Greenwood on the right, with Ronaldo on the left and Cavani uptop

???

Ronaldo will be up top as nr 9. No point in even arguing about this. Ole has even said he views Ronaldo as a striker and wants him in the box.

Left will be Pogba/Rashford/Sancho/Martial, maybe with the odd Cavani appearance (he played there in PSG), and right will be Greenwood/Sancho/Rashford/Amad.

January transfer window not too far away now. Our new interim manager will have a month to work with the players before signings become a possibility.

Looks like we have quite a battle ahead of us to get into the top 4 this season. Keeping in mind also that we are soon going to be implementing gegenpressing, I think it would be foolish of us not to get at least one more body into our midfield to prepare us for the remainder of the campaign.

You'd like to think that Rangnick is surely going to suggest an energetic midfielder as our first signing when he officially comes onboard. Some talk this morning about Amadou Haidara potentially being Rangnick's first signing. Has a £33m release clause in his contract.

Anyone expecting a signing this January?

I expect signings to be honest, but think signing this lad in Jan would be pointless, considering he'll be off to the afcon - unless that release clause expires?

I'd actually like him to look at a few Salzburg players if it's in Jan. They'll have half a season to adapt whilst he tries and coach the players we have at the club first.

I'm not his biggest fan but I reckon a properly coached Fred could do a great job for a team that wants to press. 2 of our goals in Villareal came from his efforts. It's his all around gameplay that is the issue. Maybe a half competent manager could coach out his flaws.

Both Fred and McTominay are very energetic and could run all day, but there is not much cover behind them. I do not rate Donny since he is too slow and Pogba is not a player for a pressing game. Hopefully Ralf can coach McFred and improve their tactical awareness but a CDM and a RB are critical signings.

Haven't heard of him, probably he is and will be good

Compared to the usual household FM names, cough... camavinga...

I like Rangnick, I think he knows what he's doing, rather than picking for the fancy fotm names

I think once they're taught to press as a team they'll prove themselves to be more than adequate, at least to catch top 4. Anything beyond that is for next season.

He was right, you can't be a little bit pregnant, you're either pregnant, or you're not.

A collective press doesn't really need a skilled player, just one that knows how to press as a team and take it from there one mistake at a time.
