Lucas Podolski | Signed for Arsenal

RvP isn't going anywhere and having Poldi as a replacement would be like getting Ji-sung Park to replace Fabregas.

Strange transfer. They could've had him at any point during the last five years or so yet never made any move. Podolski was always too good for Cologne though.

I think it's happening now since Podolski has finally looked like really living up to his early potential, he's playing consistently and has matured as a player. He's also at that age where he's reaching the peak of his career physically, and hopefully mentally.

A good time to buy him if anyone was going to.

Ditto. But Gervinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Walcott will make finding a spot out wide pretty tough, not to mention that from what I know of him he's not the quickest.

I'd say he's better than Gervinho and Walcott. Next season they'll start with Podolski on the left and Oxlade/Walcott on the right. Not too shabby at all.

Podolski suffered by moving to Bayern too early in his career. He has been pretty consistent for Cologne since then. He's 26 now, probably the right time to move to another UCL club.

Personally I think its a good deal for Arsenal.

Now to somehow keep hold of RVP.....

I'm confused where he would play. Arsenal have got Walcott, Gervinho, OX-C, Miyachi, Joel Campbell who can play on the wide positions for the next seasons. Plus they still have Arshavin who can play there. I'm not convinced that he would go to Arsenal as RVP's backup.

Van Persie will be the main striker obviously. Podolski will rotate between up front and out wide left, I think.

Strikers: Van Persie, Podolski, Walcott, Park (?) and Joel Campbell (provided he gets his permit)

Left Wide-Forwards: Podolski, Gervinho, Miyiachi (provided he's brought back into the squad)
Right Wide-Forwards: Walcott, the OX, Gervinho

Out: Chamakh, Bendtner, Arshavin and Vela
In: Podolski, Miyiachi, Campbell and maybe keep Benayoun?

I would say so too. He's an experienced player with a pretty good reputation. They definitely need more like him if they want to go places. He's an improvement on some of the strikers they've got at the moment. Although his form has been patchy I could see Wenger and Arsenal's style of play getting the best out of him.

Very good signing for Arsenal if it goes through. The lad has bags of international experience, has turned into a more consistent goalscorer over the last couple of seasons and has play as a left forward loads of times both for Germany and Cologne.

Definitely an improvement over anyone they have except of course Van Persie, and Podolski, Van Persie and Walcott/Oxlade/Gervinho looks like an excellent forward line to me. I like Podolski quite a lot as a player, would love to see how he does in the Premier League. If Wenger puts his trust in him (which was Podolski's biggest problem at Bayern, they never really gave him a chance on a consistent basis), he will thrive.

He might be going somewhere, you think a player of his ability won't mind spending entire career without winning a single trophy? I doubt it somehow.

Too early to speculate on RVP's future. Its possible Arsenal could slip down to 5th, and then its toodles.

It doesn't matter, Arsenal aren't winning a major trophy in the next few years and RVP might not fancy that.

raphael honigstein ‏on twitter saying that the deal is done, the fees is 10.3m Pounds but the wages are 140k

Just checked. he is only typing what is being reported in the tabloids there.

If it is £140k, then they're going to have to pay Van Persie closer to £200k

Surprised at Pete's lack of enthusiasm. I think he'll thrive in this league.

Decent player who will probably do a decent job for Arsenal, but I don't think he'll really massively improve them, and that's the sort of player Arsenal have to be looking for.

What's becoming apparent is that Arsenal don't have the money to buy players who'll improve the first team massively so they're banking on young players and players from the B list to get them through. It's a risky strategy, but I suspect it's the only way they can play it.

I think this is a fairly shrewd move if I'm honest.

Podolski has a very powerful shot on him. That's all I know about Podolski.

The cheaper alternative to going for Mario Gotze?

If he plays for Arsenal like he does for Germany then they've got a bargin...if the Bayern Podoloski shows up he'll end up looking like a Turkey.

Still, at 10 million i think it's worth a gamble. He's looked sharp the few times i've watched him in the last year. That said, he's playing in a team where he's the main man, and he's adored by the fans.

He's matured in the last years, was an integral part for our national side during the WC 2006, Euro's 2008 and in South Africa. Podolski's shown that he has the potential to do well at the highest level and his goalscoring record for Germany is great.

He's strong, quick and can blast a ball - I see him as a central striker so I'm interested in where exactly Wenger will use him.

On the left of the 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 I presume.

Or indeed as a central striker in the likely scenario that Van Persie gets injured.

Mirror are saying he's been signed for 10m

thesun reporting he rejected us for them

edit: didnt fergie say something about 'typical germans' ?? feckkkkk
