It can be done even if the player isnt out of contract in the summer.
Transfer window is for registration. deals can be done at any time.

Course he rejected us. That definitely, definitely happened.

Its back on.

The 26-year-old forward will supposedly be sold for just under £10million, with the fee set to rise depending on appearances, his performance and the number of trophies he wins.
The deal has long been mooted by several sources, with the player already said to have undergone an initial medical with the Gunners ahead of a summer move.

Podolski was initially lined-up as a January recruit by Arsene Wenger, but the player decided against making the move as he didn’t want to jeopardise his place in the German national side ahead of Euro 2012.

Wenger initially played down suggestions a deal had already been struck for the former Bayern Munich man, but last month the Frenchman did uncharacteristically admit his desire to bring Podolski to the Emirates.
‘Yes [we want Podolski],’ said Wenger.

‘We want to add some offensive strikers, because many times people say we rely too much on Van Persie, which is true, but if we can find world-class players, we will [challenge for the title].’

Podolski's side, Cologne, are currently languishing in 16th place in the Bundesliga, and it's believed the German outfit have been reluctant to confirm the deal at the risk of upsetting an already unhappy fan base.

How is a transfer allowed to be discussed before transfer window is opened?
If it was decided in January, then probably makes sense.

He'll play from the left and score 15 goals in the league next season.

Good signing for them IMO as he's better than Arshavin, Gervinho and Chamakh.

You can discuss and offer a transfer 365 days of the year. It could be agreed whenever.

The earliest a player can complete the move is in the windows however.

Good replacement for Robin Van Persie, then.

Never cared for Podolski unless it's a World Cup. Preferred to play for a small team, didn't work hard for Bayern and ended up going back home to Koln. Not sure why he's thinking he wants to leave his hometown again.

If he actually plays near his best it could work out very well. I guess if Rosicky can finally come out of his 5 year slump, then anything can happen.

Vertonghen? When was the a team had two left footers as their first choice CBs? There's a trivia question in this one somewhere.

Vertonghen next and probably m'vila. Ouch.

I swear, you and Sean will need a separate forum in the transfer season. Anyway, I think RVP is off this summer, anyone else feel the same?

I think if Real made a bid for him, Arsenal and Van Persie would find it hard to refuse. He won't join Man City or any other English club.

Yeah I could see him joining Real tbh. They're supposedly getting rid of Higuain, it would make sense. I think Van Persie would've signed a new contract if he really wanted to stay at Arsenal. Although there's still time, so he very well could sign.

Nah I think he'll stay.

Decent backup player, can't see him being much more than that if they have serious ambitions of winning trophies.

Good signing for the left wing berth. However will be a good signing only if they hang on to RVP, as I think they'll strike up a good understanding.

Average signing if he's only RVP's replacement.

Do not underestimate him. He might just be the right thing. He might not have had the class to get a starting spot at Bayern with Ribery, Klose and Luca Toni in his prime times in front of him when he was 22 - but he is four years older now and I do not think that his opponents at Arsenal will be of the same class...

His playing style and his physical attributes will work well with the premier league and he will not need much time to adjust.

Arsenal probably could open a merchandising shop in Cologne, there will be a lot visitors from Cologne in London and a travelling agency probably could make gold with offering special Watch-Poldi-In-London-Packages.

All of Cologne is crying today. I do not know if anybody can imagine the status he has in that city. Cologne has a million inhabitants and about all are routing for him. There is two major sights in that town - the Cologne dome and Poldi.

Cologne on Saturday plays at home against Bayern who still want Gomez to get the goal cannon and are eager not to loose on the way to the last two finals. Cologne is 16th right now with no chance to climb up - that would mean that they have to do two relegation battles with the third of League 2. But if Hertha wins (the are 2 points behind with a better goal difference) and Cologne does not Cologne will go down to 2nd League together with the Poldi Farewell Party...

I think he is a great signing for us.
We always needed someone on left and he is clearly someone with enough experience & ability.

I think he'll do better than Gervinho and Arshavin anyway.

Unfortunately the answer's fairly simple, Vertonghen-Vermaelen at Ajax!

Yes - that is just it. He is the Bundesliga player that has the second most Facebook likes - behind Müller and in front of Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Neuer, Götze...

I just can imagine that he will be the fan love at Arsenal, too.

He almost always plays well for the National team in that left sided role.

If Wenger is smart he'll use him as a direct replacement for Thierry Henry...not to imply that he'll be anywhere near as good but Podolski he can certainly be useful there.

Have a feeling he'll have a Gervinho style season for Arsenal. Not sure he'll do too well.
