Lucas Podolski | Signed for Arsenal

The best Polish player at the moment.

I can see him moving within Germany, it seems that might be what he's looking for as well. It makes sense, take a step down to Bremen or Stuttgart and try to rebuild his reputation. He'll just fade into obscurity if he goes to Newcastle mid season.

According to German media, Arsenal are interested in Podolski, who looks like he could seal a move abroad either in January or after the European Championships.

Saw the Arsenal link the other day, can't imagine that there is much in it. Apparently his wages could be a stumbling block and I would imagine that he would cost quite a bit. It all seems a bit un-Arsenal like.

He has found form again though and has looked back to his best over the past season and a half.

Yeah he's been good so far this season, heavily involved with all of Köln's wins this season. Very impressed with his all-round play and decisiveness as well, he's not only about scoring goals at all

I've wanted him at United for ages and still think he could do a number for us as a proper left footed attacking outside player capable of coming inside and scoring goals as well as setting up.

Arsenal would do well to get him. I'd imagine they'd get rid of Arshavin and Podolski would be a replacement.

It's not Arsenal to spend money, but it's not Arsenal to be THIS dire in attack. RVP gets injured and they're as toast as Chelsea.

He's the German (sic) Rooney but opposite.... He's always brilliant for Germany but shit for his club :D

Would love to see him play a part at a bigger club than Köln again (no disrespect), but when he was with Bayern I thought he failed.

Seems a bit strange to me though, can't see the transfer happening honestly, can't see Wenger breaking the bank to sign a player who wouldn't solve their biggest problems.

Would definately be to replace Arshavin, but it would a risk imo.

The risk would be dependant on the fee.

I don't doubt he'd do well in this league. If Arsenal could get him for anywhere south of £15mil then it would be a good deal for them IMO.

He's strong and very direct. He'd compliment the team nicely.

I don't doubt the fact that he could be a great signing for Arsenal, he is still young - probably even not hit his prime years yet so it could possibly end up as a very inspired signing, but he may be a big fish in a small pond kind of player at club level.

That being said, if he is to be brought in to replace Arshavin he would have to do a very poor job to not succeed there!

Podolski is one of those players who needs the support of the manager to be at his best. I'm not surprised he wants to move on again, in the end he's way too good for his boyhood club and even though his move to Bayern didn't work out the right way I'm confident he'll cut it at a big club the second time around.

I don't think he gets on too well with Ståle Solbakken honestly. Remember reading he was stripped of the captancy shortly after he arrived.

To relieve pressure off of him apparently. They've been full of praise for each other after they turned around their poor start to the season, or so it seems from what's been reported in the Norwegian media at least.

Not sure why after his time at Bayern, but I reckon he'd be a good signing for Arsenal. They desperately need somebody to rotate with RvP.

At Bayern, he got injured (broken leg if I remember) and was out for awhile. By the time he got back, he was replaced and faced a bit part for the remainder of the time.

I don't think they were a match anyway. Just another case of Bayern wanting all the best Germans. Podolski is someone that needs to be one of the high lights of the team. He's not going to track back hard, but if you play through him, he'd do wonderfully.

What Arsenal really need in attack is someone who they can feed the ball through so that RVP isn't the go-to man. Eventually, teams will just double team him out of a game. Teams needs dangerous players who all need to be marked. Podolski is one of those players you need to watch out for. He'd also add width and I think compliment their playing style.

I don't think Arsenal will buy a defender in January. They already spent too much in the summer, and Wenger will hold out and hope things come together.

Maybe I'm just reading a little too much into it anyways - Could be that Podolski just wants to test himself in europe, which honestly is entirely natural, so I suppose there isn't necessarily any bad blood.

Just remember reading the all the stories back when he stripped him as one of his first actions and Podolski wasn't happy back then, got a lot of stick from the media then as well.

Podolski was just too young and inexperienced for Bayern at the stage of his career. The pressure at the club was too immense for him compared to the love he received at Köln.

It looks like he admires England, the Premier League and I think he could be well ready for Arsenal. Fee wouldn't be a problem, if Podolski wants to leave, they will allow him to move. Expect something around 12-18m Euros for him.

Not a Wenger player, don't expect him at Arsenal.

"Those are lovely comments from Mr Klopp, maybe he is a little sad because I turned him down twice already," Podolski told Cologne newspaper Express.
"On the other hand, he is right, because I am too expensive for Dortmund after they missed out on Champions League revenue having finished last in their group."

AFP: Podolski cool over Schalke, taunts Dortmund

I kinda wish Podolski would go to Dortmund. They would have a good side and if they can get one more quality defensive mid, then they will be a tough team to beat.

Doesn't surprise me at all.

He's been woeful for Bayern really, he's only gotten 31 starts at Bayern in the last two seasons and a bit and he's only scored 14.

It's not a bad scoring record but he's never really shown himself to be as good as the hype for Bayern.

14 goals in 31 starts......yeah he's fecking "woeful" that lad

People also forget that while Podolski is a "forward" he's more of a supporting one who pops up with a fair number of goals for his position. He can score, he can assist, and he's a handful on the break.

Wenger would do well to have him replace Arshavin.

Eh, good point. (?) He scored a goal every 216 minutes in his time at Bayern. I don't think that's a good record, but in the post you quoted I did say it wasn't that bad...it was the rest of his game, the simple fact that he couldn't settle in and establish himself in the team was the 'woeful' part. Well, for a player who was labelled a 'complete striker' and a 'brilliant player', which was the point...he didn't live up to the hype at Bayern.

Looks a much better player again since he has left Bayern, not an out-and-out goal scorer but he has a lot of other qualities.

Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez, Welbeck, Young, Nani and Valencia.

No.

He'd do well over here though and the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea could do with a player like him. Maybe even Spurs too.

If there is one English club that might take a punt on him it would be Liverpool. They need strikers and love bosman signings. Of course the chance of him flopping is huge but that only makes it more amusing to us non Liverpool fans.

I've always liked him, but don't think there is any chance he'd sign for us. We've got 4 strikers that imo are as good or better. Besides his best position is on the left of a main striker like he plays with Germany so we'd have to change formation to get the best out of him. Still think he'd be a good fit to replace Arshavin if the price isn't too high.

Would be an interesting option to have in the squad. Versatile and effective no matter where he plays, coming into the right age bracket (top of his game) and has a wealth of experience. Also seems to play well when it matters.

Would like him and/or Matias Suarez (of Anderlecht) to come in during the summer - considering they're far more realistic options compared to the likes of Goetze and Hazard.
