Louis van Gaal's tactics

Ah, didn't know that about the number 10. A 433 to me is one dm and two cms. Otherwise I use 4231 to indicate the acm. Thats why I picured him on the left in a midfield 3. Sounds like AdM wont be featured a lot in cm then.

And no, I'm no itk. If we are to play with an acm next season his chances of staying increases surely (mata).

Van Gaal calls it a "point forward 4-3-3". It differs from a 4-2-3-1 in that the two CM's aren't considered DM's. It's a very attacking formation.

Hypothetical question NL Max.

How would be Ronaldo accommodated into LvG's tactics?

Left winger like normal? Occasional striker/#10 perhaps.

Don't think he'd be trying to change an almost perfect footballer. Although.. it's van Gaal so you never know.

He needs to figure out how to beat teams like this. It's 3 games in a row now where we've been found out by a simple park the bus tactic, which he'll repeatedly come across in the PL.

He is doing what we feared Moyes would do with Fellaini. Beside that, he is on the right path with his possession ideology.

What? Making him a useful player?

I agree he's on the right lines. He really has messed up today though.

He's a little bit weird really, don't think that's going to change.

Yea, but at the cost of stagnating our creativity by relying too much on longballs to Fellaini? I understand and I have always stated that this is the best way to use Fellaini, but I do not want to see it as our plan A, as Van Gaal seems to be doing in the past few games.

Palace away

Arsenal home

Hull away

i only see one win in that and even that's 50/50, top 4 is seriously at risk.

Still not sure I am convinced by him tbh, he just doesn't seem to see obvious tactics until it's far too late. Plus he just cannot break the smaller teams down, it's a massive problem.

United's best strikers playing in midfield.

That's the big issue for me, I know Carrick is injured but Jones is back and we would probably have been better off playing McNair in midfield with Rooney or Van Persie up front.

When we don't have Carrick and a solid back two he switches us to an incredibly pragmatic percentage game while camping in their half.

Everyone holds position and takes less risks in fear of losing the ball and exposing us.

Liverpool have Chelsea (a), Palace (H) and Stoke (A). They're every bit as shite as we are, they're not gonna catch us.

Ridiculous manager and ridiculous squad

He uses the same tactic to play City/Liverpool and Wba

:lol::lol::lol:

This is worse than Moyes

This. I go back and forth (just like Van Gaal's results), but I just don't know about him.

Failure to get top 4 and I think his position should be considered.

Three defeats in a row (if it stays the same). I haven't criticised him all year, but that would be terrible.

Performance is bad but a bit of perspective ffs. If we'd won today we'd have been in 2nd place but we came up against a team who parked the bus and got an ultra flukey goal. We'll be fine.

Playing players out of position and we start to play shite. Its hardly rocket science.

I think we'll be fine, not too worried about top four or anything, but three defeats in a row is terrible. No goals in three games? Sorry, I've defended him as much as anyone this year, but this is unacceptable.

Even if we make 4th spot, it should be looked at. At this rate we're may end up making it because Liverpool aren't much better although they are on a Stevie G high now.

It's all very good beating the big teams but there's only three or four of them. What about the remaining 15/16 teams who we've looked hopeless against?

Rooney and RVP in midfield, Fellaini up top. With Valencia and McNair in defense, is it that surprising that we're struggling? So frustrating to watch.

Starting to look like he fluked the selection that gave us the good run, as some were suggesting, on account of the injuries. We're in shambles.

It's a disgrace!

You're right, of course. But today was a woeful performance, with some very strange managerial decisions. Criticism is inevitable and justified.

Couldn't give less of a shit if we get top 4 or not, LvG should be replaced with Klopp either way. Would be a pity too miss out on him. So many questionable selections, substitutes etc. etc. etc. throughout the season. I'm tired of it. Too busy trying to prove himself a genius instead of winning football games.

I'm thinking the same!

He had a few good games, but now we're playing like we did for most of the season, shit!

I love that he at least puts so many attackers on.
"Feck it, a point is more important than goal-difference"

Good attitude, today seems mainly down to West Brom playing anti-football, but anti-football seems very effective against us.
We need to play more direct and challenge 1v1 more than passing it out when teams play this defensively, with preferably Januzaj/di Maria on the right (despite Mata being the superior player) as they try to take on their man more often.
