Louis van Gaal's tactics

You guys are so fecking dramatic

Are you entertained? Do you like how we play? Even if we scored the penalty, the 25 minutes of such games should be chances after chances. Also, after Everton, he should have changed something. And people out position... Dramatic or not, this is not good enough

I wouldn't trust him with £100m of our transfer budget this summer too

this is easier to be said than done to adopt a complete different tactics in the last few games after a successful run, especially we experienced such a lot of different experiments earlier of the season.

Van Gaal's trust in McNair might just be about to cost is a top 4 place...should have been Blind partnering Smalling at center back with Young at left back

Oh yeah, it's totally fair to criticise him today, we played badly and he made some bizarre decisions.

Posters here are too quick to jump to extremes though. It's too much to say he needs to go a this stage, just like it was too much to say he was a genius a few weeks ago.

Now for all the "terrible post match interview" comments coming our way.....

Yeah knee jerk reactions are going to happen either way, win or loss, it's possibly the "problem" of the internet to an extent where any comments will be remembered. Its no different to going to the game to an extent, if we won that 1-0 with that performance you're right people would of be looking at finishing 2nd in the league regardless of performance.

I don't think it's just posters on here that do it, I do sometimes see the BLuemoon or RAWK meltdown topics though and think you could find similar reactions on any website, including this one.

Agreed on the interview though they get slated when we lose as embarassing and hilarious when we win normally.

Three loses in a row plus. It's a trend.

We messed up the match against Everton, deserved more against Chelsea and should have won today. We've been unlucky yes and there is room for improvement but to blame it all on LvG and asking for him to get sacked is idiotic. He can't control all aspects of our game and the players must step up and deliver, they lost the match today not LvG.

boo fecking whooo?

Yeah, some things went against us but we also had two strikers on the pitch, both playing in midfield, and punting the ball into our centre forward, who is a midfielder.

Starting to look like he fluked the selection that gave us the good run, as some were suggesting, on account of the injuries. We're in shambles.

He 100% got lucky that injuries forced him into picking a sensible team.

Getting Rooney out of midfield and upfront instead of Falcao/RvP was the best thing that happened to us all season. Far stronger side and great results.

Last three games we've spend two and a half of them with Rooney in midfield and Falcao/RvP upfront. And, predictably, we've gone back to looking clueless.

He'll be here to the end of next season, I think. I believe passing is the foundation of the game, but it isn't the the only thing. I'm watching this match and others and I can see the players are instructed to pass and to NOT take the opposition on. Valencia should have been taking on their LB all match. Instead, all I see is pass it off. Pass it off over and over again. In many respects his tactics are very conservative. With Rooney and RVP in line up they should have been interchanging to throw off WBA's CBs. Having said that, they should taken all three points. Missed penalty. Penalty should have also been given for the foul on Fellaini. McNair should have scored on his header.

Twats in here asking for him to go :wenger:

Someone mentioning Klopp is available and comparing us to Newcastle :wenger:

I wouldn't go that far, the problem is he has made the wrong choices since Carrick went injured.

It's an abomination. We're essentially back to square one. Two steps forward, two back. It's also disgraceful how we're so reliant on one player, who is about to turn 35.

Honestly, Van Gaal deserved a lot of credit for that recent run we went on but he also deserves just as much flak for the three games since then. Injuries have played a part but I'm still not sure he's the man to take us forward and help us win the UCL and PL.

My problem is that we are not flexible. No mater the results, we just cant switch it up. A hole season, so much money on the players, experienced coach and we can't play football...

I remember someone making a thread after the Chelsea game saying that, that performance shows them we're gonna win the league next season. I personally was not as happy as many with the performance, as I thought we were mediocre. Anyway, we had those few great games against Spurs, City and Liverpool. They were excellent but think some went overboard. Most of our football has been shite this season and we've looked unconvincing for large parts of the season.

I hope we can replicated that form we showed in those 3 games but in all honesty I've not enjoyed football under LVG. I do think we'll still make top 4 but we've made bloody hard work of it. Some strange decisions today, but he's made some odd calls throughout the season.

I agree. He has had a nightmare run. Paddy just isn't comfortable in that centreback position. Especially on the left hand side of the two centrebacks.

Really needs to sit out for a bit and regain some confidence. I just can't understand why Rojo and Jones are still not fit. Its really taking the piss now. Absolute fecking jokes of footballers who break down at the slightest touch.

He got it wrong selection wise today. We needed players that could beat a man and he didn't play them. Januzaj and Di Maria should have either started or been introduced earlier.

There was actually some method in the madness in regards to the Fellaini swap. Fellaini and Rooney were killing everything in the first half. Neither could play a forward ball or take a first touch into dangerous areas. Van Persie was actually doing that in the second half and we were more purposeful as a result.

With that said, the right decision would have been to simply remove Rooney or Fellaini for Di Maria.

We will finish 4th because Liverpool sold Suarez and couldn't replace him. Everton had a nightmare season. That is why we've "improved" in the league this season. LVG's tactics aren't an asset to this club.

Yes it's his fault Myhill had the game of his life and RvP missed a penalty. The sheer amount of idiots on this place is annoying.

What, you honestly think playing Rooney and Fellaini so close to RVP wasn't a bad tactic? Or playing Fellaini as a striker and RVP as a midfielder?

In the first half, it was basically Herrera as a one-man midfield, and the idea was just to force the ball into the box whenever possible - basically Moyes 101.

Then in the second half, RVP is moved to midfield and Fellaini is now a striker. I mean, come on, that is just ridiculous. Going for hoofball against a Tony Pulis side - it just flies in the face of nature. Plains stupid.

LVG done bad today. Real bad.

We left ourselves very open to this sort of problem by not sorting the CM better last summer. We have 3 CM(Fellaini isnt) for two spots. To think some were question why we needed to buy another CM.

People might go to far with emotions and all but we can't argue that with what we have, we should expect there matches to be won. It is the end of the season and you don't feel like anyone at the team wants to secure top 4. Its like we are a middle table club, playing for nothing. No passion, no creativity, lack of confidence.

btw, what happened to beating your man??

It was like Fulham all over again.

Tbf we did sign two CMs last summer, there's only so much you can do in one window with other positions to strengthen too.

Way too slow. You can play casual keep ball like that if you're winning, but it won't create you chances against a side who are happy to sit in. You need players to be looking up before the ball has reached them so that they can play penetrative balls first time.

He plays Rooney in midfield and then in the second half he moves RVP to midfield when he was arguably our best striker.

And Fellaini up front....ffs!!

We've become predictable and there's no plan b. This can't go on, he really needs to change something.

I don't know if it's a LVG tactic to have poor crosses but I thought our players were completely stupid with them. They're either too floaty and therefore way to easy to defend against or with pace and completely inaccurate.
However some of his decisions were jokes, complete disaster.

Don't worry after the slow, square passing (don't worry a chance will come eventually) didn't work, LVG will introduce Di Maria and Falocao to ensure the loss. That's it.

Or maybe he saw that passing through them was difficult so he used Fellaini as a hold up player and wanted RVP and Rooney running on to the ball rather than trying to receive it through the defence?

slow methodical, useless passing, no penetration, nobody trying to commit a man, I hate watching this rubbish, you could see their goal coming and us losing 0-1 from the first 10minutes.

I'm not saying that, but the calls for him to get sacked and blaming everything on him is ridiculous! RvP scores his penalty and McNair scores his free header or we convert one of the 10 other chances we had and this would be a different conversation. I'm all for people coming in with good arguments as this is the point of a football forum, but the reactions after every single loss is doing my head in.

I suppose that it's why Cruyff say that Van gaal relies too much on individualities. Our most attacking players are Young, Mata, Van Persie and Fellaini.
We lack someone who will run behind the defense AND someone who will provoke and eliminate his opponents in 1v1.

Di Maria is the latter but who is the former ?
