Louis van Gaal's tactics

Can't disagree with that. Our only flair player is Memphis and he's going to need a season or so until we see the best of him.
It's what Carragher and Neville are talking about now!

Although for once I actually agree with Carragher  I think if the attacking players were not instructed to play the ball back first then LvG would be dragging those players off or not playing them next game. I think "possession" is everything to LvG but his "robotic, rigid" team formation is far too easy to read and I think he needs some inspirational players … however that's not LvG.

Mata just saying they won because they "changed their shape" as if United were not allowed to change theirs without a nod from the bench!

Ive said months ago, that all his talk of a philosophy is a very clever way to build an aura around himself, like hes superior to other managers, or is a football revolutionary, he has been extremely lucky with the teams hes coached that they where the undisputed biggest clubs in their leagues, plus he had an absolute riches of world class players at the clubs he was at

The money spent on these players, it's frankly ridiculous how poor the performances are, when you look at the performances other managers of lesser teams seem to get out of supposedly worse players.

Boring and predictable to ensure Top 4 was understandable last year. Extremely frustrating this year and really has to change. LVG not doing what we need to adapt mid-match or prepare for these tough smaller sides

How many of you lot would cut your losses with Van Gaal at the end of the season if this continues? I know I would. Guardiola ain't gonna be available forever.
Guardiola is as eccentric as van Gaal if not more and has infuriated Bayern fans as much as van Gaal has done to redcafe.

All the opposition has to do is stand deep and wait for counter attacks. Our bald headed cnut up front is not going to score anyway and our wingers have no clue what to do. So nothing better than to deal with one or two crosses and then hit us in the counter

I thinks its because he is such a boring character..He'll never poke anyone in the eye, talk about philosophies or mind games..Wise up Manuel...He might be City manager, but the guy never does anything to hate him..except win of course..
I used to know a guy who built his reputation on nothing but winning and sod off anyone who thought that he was the important person in any equation … we built a stand in his honour!

I want to start a "Sack Van Gall, Sell Rooney" thread. Can we have poll?

I am fecking so done with this fecking shit. You didn't need to be a genius to have predicted this nonsense.
  • Who didn't know that Romero was shit?
  • Who didn't know that Blind will struggle as soon as we face a decent opposition?
  • Who didn't know that our attacking options are shit?
  • Who didn't know that we don't have enough goals in the squad? 3 goals in 4 games for Manchester United against Villa, Newcastle, Swansea and Spurs - are you fecking kidding me?
  • Who didn't know that Rooney cannot play as a main striker?
  • Who didn't know that our only plan is to hoof it to Fellaini when a goal down? (@Stack, did you note the number of hoofs on a paper?)
  • Who didn't know that Mata on the right wing is useless?
  • Who didn't know that our subs are going to be stupid and leave you scratching your head?
You didn't have to be a clairvoyant to have predicted all this shit. Everything has been painfully obvious, we just decided to bury our heads in sand. This is clearly not working. The football is horrendous to watch, and without the results we have nothing to show for.

Where is this going? Will it suddenly change if somehow we are able to get Bale and Benzema? Or will they suffer the same fate as Van Persie and di Maria?

What are our tactics? What is this philosophy? What is this process?

Absolute fecking nonsense!

He constantly wins though it has to be said
He had a treble winning squad waiting for him to take over at Bayern in an OK league. LVG came to a United that finished out of the top 4 for the first time since ages in a very competitive premier league where everyone down to midtable are capable of throwing the money around.

Big difference.

Tactics?

Keep ball at all costs, nothing risky, just keep it, however slow the play is
Only shoot or cross if it's a good situation to.

When this fails...

get it to Young and aim for Fellaini.

Then you're clueless. They averaged nearly 70% last year.

You need to start watching them more. They are not a possession team, they play more direct football and don't keep passing the ball uselessly for the heck of it.

Sad but true.

Comments like this make me wonder whether this club is just too backward for him. Such utter nonsense.

Yeah that Barcelona team last year were awful...

they didn't face a counter attacking team as the one Ancelotti murdered Bayern with. The Bayern they faced was minus Robbin and Ribery, fair to say it was the weakest possible Bayern lineup.

And yes i had seen better Barcelona performances than last year's team.

I think most fans would agree with all of that.
I think it's going to be a very up and down season, winning a lot of games in what I'd call a very "comfortable" way, but being very goal and flair low.

The biggest worry is that we seem to have almost limitless funds for the first time ever, and we're still producing an attack like this.

Having said that, Mata and Depay are £60m worth!

You're kind of both right. They are still a possession team in the sense that thanks to their pressing and close passing ability they will dominate possession against any side in the world. They aren't possession for possession's sake though. They actually aim to do stuff with it as it should be.

Can't disagree with much of that

Yes they are. They may play in a more direct manner than they did in previous years but they clearly play possession based football. How you can argue that a team who has the ball for 70% of the match doesn't is beyond me.

Possession football is not defined as 'passing the ball uselessly for the heck of it'. That's just what happens when it is done poorly.

I know a lot of people wanted Young to play but he's actually a poor crosser of the ball. I agree that Mata is not the ideal player for thr right, but Young whips in constant aimless crosses. Without Fellaini in there for a period it was nonsensical imo. When Fellaini came on, we were hardly crossing it just long diagonal balls to him.
