Ah. So he didn't say that after all.

"Today's Manchester United team selected by Louis van Gaal"

I bloody hope he did.

Defending corners. We mark man to man, right? Not zonal?

What the FUCK is Rafael doing marking Drogba?

No idea - and it's such a shame because we'd done so well until that.

Van Gaal, for all his genius (and he is) really needs to make sure that he doesn't become ambivalent to the more basic aspects of the game.

Big games are won and lost with the small decisions.

Exactly. Been defending like chumps all seasons and it's incomprehensible decisions like that which make me wonder how much of it is down to coaching which doesn't pay enough attention to that aspect of the game. Maybe defending set-pieces isn't part of this "philosophy"? Really strange.

He's also done really well tactically in that first half, it's important to remember that. Especially considering the two starting line-ups.

He just needs to make sure that the bread and butter decisions don't get overlooked.

We havent exactly got the tallest of players out there, who else would you have marking him given our CBs were marking theirs?

Also i'm a little annoyed RvP didnt stay on his post

Really really poor start. It could, very realistically, be 12 points from 10 games this time next week. It's all very well good supposedly playing better than we did under Moyes but we're making Moyes' team look like world beaters in terms of results despite spending a fortune to improve that team.

OMG really? Even IF we lose this game we have played better than anything we did last season.

Sorry but we've hardly had a settled team all season and people still find it hard to understand why we've been so disjointed in defense?

We won't see true progres until more of the crap squad VG inherited is replaced. we're only half way there.

Fellaini? RvP?

Drogba will always be their biggest threat at set-pieces. Sticking Rafael on him makes no sense whatsoever. Baffling decision.
RvP was on the post and i believe Fellaini was picking up Cahill (stand to be corrected there)

EDIT and before you say it you want a 6 footer marking the near post so he can also attack the ball if they play it short

Is he done with his drawing already? All he ever do is to sit there with his paper and pen. Van Gaal, you're not playing a friendly here buddy!! Get up and get involved! Mourinho said more to Mikel than you said all game!

You said our CBs were marking theirs?

Fergie always had Rafael on a post and RvP marking someone. An obvious decision.

We need to score in first half when we were slightly better. It is a common them with Chelsea in PL away big games, they get better as the match progresses, with other team's intensity dying down.

Fecking hell, 150 million for this? When is this "philosophy" going to start kicking? I don't want him out, but we are worse than Liverpool at the moment and that's saying something. Easiest program in the league and what? 2-3 points behind Liverpool...

I'd disagree, RvP never picked up a player when SAF was here. He if anything would always get on the near post or the area near it to head it away if it has that type of flight.

I'd agree that Rafael did take the post a lot more under SAF

He has United playing good football, but not football that has us winning games. I am starting to question whether Van Gaal is that much better than Moyes. Nevertheless, I am just enjoying our football at the moment and I hope that eventually our result soon reflect our performance

Our football has been better in general under LvG but hasn't translated to results so far, and it needs to do so soon.

Well how many prolonged periods did Moyes have without the likes of one of Rio/Vidic/Evans/Jones/Smalling?

If our football has improved it begs to reason the more the team plays together it will click at some point

Transitional period or not, the level of performance and points return for a side that's spent as much as we have is unacceptable.

Are you going to call VG a piece of garbage as well now?

Not sure I understand your question, but Vidic and Ferdinand were liabilities last season. Jones, Smailling and Evans had their typical spell of injuries. I do agree that things might click eventually.
