Not sure I understand your question, but Vidic and Ferdinand were liabilities last season. Jones, Smailling and Evans had their typical spell of injuries. I do agree that things might click eventually.
The point i am making is if your defense isnt settled it filters around the team. So given that we are playing good football but our defense has lapses doesn't that give you the impression things will improve?

Once we get defenders back, I'll judge him but the results have been disappointing so far. That said, we have created chances in games and really should be taking more of them.

Who would you have brought on then?
Yeah agree, most subs are just made for the sake of it - it wasn't much a criticism - just thought with us struggling I'd have gambled with Herrera for Blind/Fellaini - then MF pops up with a great header at the end

First decent cross in the game as well

Tbh I don't see a big improvement between this and the equivalent fixture last season. Obviously delighted we didn't lose but a very comfortable away draw for Chelsea.
Seriously? I cant recall stats but:
  1. We hardly put 2-3 passes together that night
  2. Their keeper didnt have a save to make
  3. Had Chelsea not shown us so much respect they would have walked that game

Are you going to call VG a piece of garbage as well now?

He's not a piece of garbage. I wonder if every mod is now eyeing me because of what I called Mata. Let me point out that I did not curse at him with any bad words. There are far worse comments on a match day. And am I alone in thinking LVG is mute and disabled during matches? Now let's be happy about the draw and that our RVP is back!

It's a significantly better Chelsea side though.

That second half was horrible in all honesty. It was Moyes-esque football.

Great last minute though

It should, but you cant predict future issue that may occur beyond defensive lapses.
No one can, but if you consider the facts you are likely to play better as a defensive unit if you have A) your best players playing and B) players who have a continuous run in the team together.

Eh? United were the better team that game.

That's the big difference between tonight's match and last season. Chelsea set up for the draw last year, this time they didn't.
I'd go with that. But for me bar the corner they scored from and Hazard chance before that i didnt think blow to blow we should come away with our tails tucked between our legs

I was getting frustrated as well but then I looked at the bench and there was no one who really looked like they could make an impact aside from Herrera. He must not have been fit otherwise I'm sure he would have been put on.

I don't agree with that. I don't think at any point last season against a top team we produced a performance similar to first half. We actually competed with them and marginally played better football than league leaders. Said earlier, if RVP was at his best, we would have been at least 1-0 up.

Don't think people should read up too much to the points total after City game. It is low right now due to us not picking up enough against weaker teams at the start. But it is imperative we go on some kind of run after the City game, no draws, just wins. If we don't then yeah..it is time to worry again.

I'd have to disagree, we dominated possession but hardly made a chance - unlike today where i thought we played better and tested them a lot more.

We had better chances than them I thought. Two good saves from each keeper and two goals from corners, other than that i can't recall a Chelsea chance bar two long shots straight at De Gea. Whereas Courtois was MOTM.

I was talking about this fixture last season

Brilliant result in the end, for me. We set up extremely well and the tactics were spot on but just lost a bit of steam in the second half. Fabregas was completely shut out, Matic as well. Hazard had only a couple of moments. Delighted with how we coped.

Seriously, people can't see how we're better compared to last year? For starters, we're actually comfortable on the ball. There was this little piece of play in the dying minutes where Smalling was under pressure, but kept his nerve to hold on to the ball. I think the red card came after that phase of play. Same thing last year, that would have been a hoof.

Frankly, it's disingenuous to even compare Moyes and van Gaal. Yes we've dropped points but look at the table. We're 4 points behind the defending champions, 3 behind 4th, which is the aim this year.

To me, this point is a bonus. Don't expect us to win against City, but we have to beat the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs, especially after losing to Swansea and Leicester.

We're massively better than last season. Last season, we'd have never even come close to clawing back into the game.

Totally agree.

People who dont see how different this team is from last season need to get their heads checked! Sure we've spent a lot but its all heading in the right direction.

And they came a hell of a lot closer to winning it this time round.

Given they went for the win and they are a much better side this time round, it's more surprising we managed to get a draw this time round to be honest. I could never see us snatching a draw last year from behind in an equivalent type of fixture.

Let's be honest, Courtois really kept us from scoring. We were really close to scoring a couple more.

Steady on. It's two dropped points at the end of the day.

I'll buy into the fact it's an improvement on last season and hopefully a turning point in this one but some of you are getting very carried away about an injury time equaliser at home.

That Chelsea side is better than any side we played last year, and any time we went a goal down to a side close to that level last year, we capitulated and couldn't mount any sort of comeback.

Big steps forward.

If we finished our chances, this could have been different. It's 2 points dropped to by far the best team in the land, who we pretty much equaled on the night. Big improvement over any of the performances last season.

Also, LvG just said it was communication error between Fellaini and Rafael for their goal.

Precisely. We were up for this from the first kick. If we didn't waste some of our chances, this could have been even better.

It's one point gained, since we clawed back in the last minute. Given the, injuries, bans and form I wouldn't say it's a bad result.

City as well got only 1-1 at Etihad so it's hardly a tragedy.

We were very good in the first half and up to the goal. Naturally our level dropped after the goal but in the end we came back, and had some chances before that as well. All in all I'd say it was a pretty good display from us and we were unlucky to go a goal down at first place.
