Television Lost: The Final Season

I wonder if Desmond ever got back to Penny? All means of getting off the island had gone. Though Ben did say to Hurley he could run things differently. Feel sorry for Hurley, every one he was close to basically died or left him. Charlie, Jin, Jack. Miles & Sawyer left. Though the writers somehow managed to make the ending satisfying enough that everyone got to see each other again, but still managed to not cheapen their deaths, which is quite impressive tbh.

And so do 100s of innocent passenger on the flight that brought them there in the first place.

and didnt Ben arrange for 300 or so other people to die to fake the crash?

and Ben also got Sayid to kill a shitload of people in S4 off the island

and those random others all got killed in S6 at the temple

and the red shirts

but, hey I'm not going to diss it - it kept me more than entertained for the last 6 years :)

I've just re-watched the episode and I have to say it was much more enjoyable second time round, in fact I'd say they tied up the story as well as I could have possibly hoped.

Last night, I decided to watch some older episodes to get mysef ready for the Finale, so I watched the first 4 episodes of Season 1 and I'm glad I did now, as it helped me remember what mattered most to me at the beginning of the show: The characters. Of course I was entrigued by the mysteries of the island, but it wasn't that which gripped me all this time. It was things like finding out that Locke had been in a wheelchair, then waiting to discover how it had happened; or when Kate found the letter Sawyer had written as a kid, and his explanation of how his parents had died; or that scene with Jacke and Locke, where he screams "It's never been easy!!" and pleads with Jack to help him press the button because "I can't do this alone".

It's true that they should have given us more answers in 'Across the Sea', but I don't think the Finale was the place to do that, and I'm glad they concentrated on revealing the fate of the characters and I thought they did it extremely tastefully. Brilliant ending to the show.

The 300 people were already dead, and it was Widmore who did that. Stole the bodies from a cemetery/mass grave in Taiwan or something.

I just rewatched the last 10 minutes, it's definitely one of those things that will give me shivers whenever I watch it. It is a beautiful ending.

Not sure, it repeats in the Uk on tuesday for anyone who didn't get up til 5 so I'd say we spoiler til then.

One thing I didn't like about the way the ending was presented, very much in line with what you were saying Ivor

was the whole notion of Christianity. I felt that was piled on thick in the final scenes in the church with all the crosses, and the fact that fecking Christian Shepard ended up being a fecking Christian Shepard....something they even alluded to with a Kate line.

...I felt that was rather tasteless, nay incredibly tasteless for a show with numerous different actors and fans of numerous different faiths....to go to such lengths to imply "hey, feckos...look it was Jesus!!..ha ha!!"...was a shame. Especially since I know Carlton Cuse is a devout catholic. I felt that was taking advantage of his position there...in a rather evangelical way. Al be it cloaked of course

Being an Atheist, I'm actually not bothered by the purgatory thing at all...and felt it was rather well done...as long as it was ambiguously done to signify "afterlife"...I disagree with your opening statement and felt they very much went for the specifically Christian thing...Which was a shame for me.

Still, I felt everything else was well done.....btw, this is me thinking

but they had every faith there, did you not see all the statues

Jack died before Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, Claire etc. Yet he was the last to find out that his life wasn't actually what he was imagining it to be.

Was he in denial or something?

And as he loved Kate, why did his mind conjure up Juliet?

I think he was the last to realize because he was always a stubborn bastard :smirk:

No idea about Kate, then again we have no idea how that 'world' worked so it's just a minor thing

They were all there to help Jack move on....but until recently none of them had moved on either and they were all just bumbling through purgatory until Des sorted them out....but Des didn't start until Charlie sorted him out....and Charlie realized after nearly dying on the plane in purgatory.....

There were no clues as to how old any of them were, were there? I'm assuming Desmond got off the island and lived to a ripe old age with Penny.

The more I think about it, the more I liked the way it ended, but the more obvious loose ends/flaws were annoying.

The one bit that made me cry a bit was Charlie and Claire.

I think however people like Hurley, Ben, Kate, Sawyer eventually died. They would always look like that in that world because that's how they were when they were together on the island.

Charlie & Claire had me all nostalgic, it's been ages since he died in the Looking Glass. When Vincent laid down next to Jack though :(

Why didn't Richard get to reunite with his wife then?

Perhaps he did but I don't think he had the same kind of bond with that group than he did with his wife. Maybe he created a world to meet up with her, a bit similar to how Miles, Daniel, Charlotte & Frank weren't there, they weren't with the survivors long enough to have formed such a connection with them.

Everyone in the church at the end was in the 815 crash bar Juliet, Des & Penny, but Juliet was in love with Sawyer and was with him for 3 years so there was a strong connection. Same with Des and our survivors.

reasonable.

Its only just starting to sink in that its over for me :(

God i'm going to miss this show so bloody much, cant wait for August though when the complete set comes out, apparantly theres going to be a few answers thrown into the special features that they didnt have enough time to put into the show

I really enjoyed the finale and thought the ending was OK. I don't really mind there being lots of mysteries unsolved.

When Desmond pulled the plug then I suppose the island turned normal and Smokey became mortal and stuff. How was Jack then able to give his power to Hurley? I assume he was stripped off his power just like Smokey. He didn't even say that weird chant when he gave the water to Hurley.

I've watched the ending 3 times since originally seeing it. Gutted it's over.

Who says Hurley even got power from Jack? In fact who says Jack ever had powers? They both said they didn't feel any different.

Loads of spin-off potential
Miles and Sawyer cop show

Dessie and his amazing superpowers

Hurley and Ben: the further adventures of the Lost Island

I'm telling you, Ben will get his own spin-off flashing through time like Quantum leap, putting things right whilst he tries to "figure a few things out"

I want a Sawyer and Miles spin off.

Didn't the writer do the Star Trek reboot?

It's begging for a Star-Wars original trilogy reboot: Jack as Luke, Sawyer as Han Solo, Kate as Leia, Hurley as Chewie, Michael as Lando Calrissian, and Locke as Darth Vader

Seeing as the fate of everyone left alive is kinda guesswork (exactly how I'd want it as well. I couldn't handle an on-screen Sawyer, Hurley or Desmond death.) What do we reckon happened to everyone?

I can see Claire being a good mother to Aaron, Kate being her best bud and helping her raise the baby. Or maybe Kate went to jail? She had a court order to stay in California when she got on Ajira 316.

I can see Hurley and Ben living on the island for a good few years, depending if they have eternal life like MIB & Jacob. Popping in to see Rose and Bernard every now and then. Having a funeral for Jack when they find his body.

Hurley probably found a way off the island for Desmond, hopefully he was reunited with Penny & little Charlie.

Not sure about Sawyer & Alpert, they didn't really have much to go back to. Miles probably ended up a millionaire due to the diamonds he dug up from Nikki & Paolo.

 I hope the producers' pitch for a Hurley/Ben spinoff is just slightly more interesting than that.

Mr. Eko

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje was offered a guest spot in this episode, but this was cut after he demanded five times the amount of money he was offered.

What a prick.
