London 2012 Olympic Competition

That was fantastic. Cant believe I've never got into cycling before.

Think this scenario is more comparable. He gives it a go, falls behind, gives up. Like Hindes did, only he got another shot at the same race, while the Algerian dude's next shot was in a different race. I suppose you can debate whether the Brit(s) did it on purpose, but assuming that Hindes at least did, then... But yeah, different sports and different rules perhaps, but then that is something that should probably be looked into, it's not right that one contestant gets thrown out for not giving his best while another one isn't. (And of course when the one let off performs for GB it makes it all the more controversial.)

Well the Algerian has been reinstated so no bother there then.

Fair enough.

I don't mean to WUM, so no need for Brits on here to get defensive about it. The sports these things have happened in are sports I don't follow much, so I am genuinely looking for your views on something that for an outsider at first sight looks like differential treatment.

Yeah, as Flawless Thaw said, they were quite different situations. I was the one defending our rowers against B19's allegations, so it was probably some of my posts that you saw on it. In that instance I think it was just an equipment malfunction and that was all there was to it.

The cycling is different because it does seem that at the least Hindes exacerbated whatever issue was there. That one I won't attempt to defend, because I have no idea what really happened and what context that has in standard cycling practice. So that situation is more comparable to the badminton/800m stories that we've seen this Games.

Was watching the weightlifting now, and all the guys didn't have much muscles to show or anything, so how strong are they compared to wrestlers? I have no idea how much the wrestlers can lift. Can they lift over 200kg like this? As they seem to have much better muscles, like The Rock.

Not sure TBH, but I'd imagine the attitude to steroids are completely different. See for example how much Kurt Angle beefed-up in the WWE compared to when he won gold (not a weightlifter I know, but best example I could think of).

Mark Henry from the WWE was a former weightlifter. From wiki:
At the 1995 Pan American Games Henry won a gold, silver and bronze medal, and a year later, he became a North America, Central America, Caribbean Islands (NACACI) champion.[6] He also participated in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and was voted team captain, but finished 14th after suffering a back injury.[6]

Arguably i think Fivelive have better pundits/commentators for the athletics than BBC 1 , makes for good discussion.

Ogogo has just guaranteed himself a medal.

Very good performance from him

FIBA refs...

Kobe shouldn't be playing nearly as much considering how poorly he's shooting.

The US's pass and shoot tactics are a disgrace, they need to move the ball more before shooting. I can understand Kobe playing offense like this in LA but when he has the calibre of players around him in this team he really needs to play less one-on-one basketball and pass more.

That said Argentina have been very impressive so far.

Watching highlights of the women's boxing now GB v EIRE - crikey what an unbelievable atmosphere. Leathering the shit out of each other too.

Lebron just got his 4th. Two of them were bullshit. Mani dove for the one at half and that was a clean block.
