Very often that was the not the case though?
Hmm? I can't think of (m)any times that one of the women returned a man's serve.

18 is hardly that young for a tennis player on the women's tour. She's not good enough and she never will be - she's overhyped as always because she's British. There's a reason she consistently goes out in the early rounds on the senior tour, and it's not her age.

Yes it is, you're falling into the same trap that some idiotic football pundits fall into. Just because she's not as good as some of the protege's of the sport were at her age doesn't automatically mean she'll never be a top player.
Murray was getting knocked out of the Grand Slams at the early rounds when he was her age and look at him now.
Getting knocked out of the Grand Slams in the later rounds?

And taking apart the greatest tennis player that ever lived in an Olympic final.
Stop being facetious.
Nah, I see what you mean, but I disagree. The men's tour is very different - physique plays such a big part now that you don't stand a chance until you've fully developed in your early-twenties. That's not the case on the women's tour, where players of 18 or 19 will go on to get to the latter rounds.
It's not that Robson doesn't match up to the prodigies of the sport (I don't think you mean protege) - she doesn't match up to any of the top players, regardless of age. I simply do not see her improving significantly enough in the next few years to become, as someone in here said earlier, a "star". She doesn't have it in her. The women that are now "stars" were far, far better than Robson is when they were 18.

I did mean prodigy, damn lager. And I added a little bit onto my earlier post about her becoming a solid top 20 player, I can see that becoming a reality.

Team GB still around ten medals ahead of the Beijing pace. Well on course to top 50 medals.

Just think if the swimming was slightly better we would be even closer. Although not sure who else might have got a medal. Becky might have got better medals, but that's all.
Slightly worried the medals will dry up after the Cycling starts to come to a close.
Still big hope for gold with Victoria Pendleton in the women's sprint and Shanaze Reade women's BMX who are big favorites. As you say Farah in 5000k and not to forget Idowu in triple jump I know he's missed time but still has a chance. Robbie Grabarz in the high jump who is 2nd in the world rankings. I guess Dai Greene in the hurdles maybe not a gold but still within a chance of a medal. Also Tom Daley has a chance who was in good form coming in to the Olympics. About all I can think of who is left, I'm sure there will be a surprise or 2.
Is Ennis not in the hurdles or something?

Ireland is guaranteed a bronze in the boxing. Yay us!
Jason Kenny in what looks like a two horse race for the men's sprint as well, so I'd expect a medal there definitely, possibly a gold.
The Equestrian team are in second at the moment, with a lot of the riders sitting high in the individual competition as well. The leaders are Saudi Arabia t the moment, but I think that's a bit of a surprise to everyone, which suggests they might not be able to hold on and GB could potentially get gold there. Not a sport I know much about, but I've enjoyed watching the jumping events.
