London 2012 Olympic Competition

18 is hardly that young for a tennis player on the women's tour. She's not good enough and she never will be - she's overhyped as always because she's British. There's a reason she consistently goes out in the early rounds on the senior tour, and it's not her age.

Yes it is, you're falling into the same trap that some idiotic football pundits fall into. Just because she's not as good as some of the protege's of the sport were at her age doesn't automatically mean she'll never be a top player.

Murray was getting knocked out of the Grand Slams at the early rounds when he was her age and look at him now.

She's got a lot of talent and if she can improve her temperament she'll be a solid top 20 player in my opinion.

Getting knocked out of the Grand Slams in the later rounds? :p

You can question Robson's attitude though. Murray had a face like thunder when she said 'to be honest, I was just happy to be in the final.' He was not impressed.

As to those doubting Robson she has improved every year since going onto the senior tour and all that is holding her back at present is the big match experience. Which is something she will only get on the tour but she has the all around game but just need to learn when to push in a match and when to take it easy.

Oh right, well someone should probably tell her that Count Orduck from the internet has decided she's not good enough, and never will be...that, despite having just reached the Olympic final, and winning a Silver medal at the age of just 18.

And taking apart the greatest tennis player that ever lived in an Olympic final.

Stop being facetious.

Nah, I see what you mean, but I disagree. The men's tour is very different - physique plays such a big part now that you don't stand a chance until you've fully developed in your early-twenties. That's not the case on the women's tour, where players of 18 or 19 will go on to get to the latter rounds.

It's not that Robson doesn't match up to the prodigies of the sport (I don't think you mean protege) - she doesn't match up to any of the top players, regardless of age. I simply do not see her improving significantly enough in the next few years to become, as someone in here said earlier, a "star". She doesn't have it in her. The women that are now "stars" were far, far better than Robson is when they were 18.

I though Robson did very well, It was Murray's mistake at 30-30 in the second set that cost them the break.

You could see nerves got to Robson in the tie-break but what do you expect ffs? Murray has let the nerves get to him or been outplayed in every grand slam final he's been in and he's what 7 years older than her?

And 18 is still young for the womans game, especially considering how many women out there are good enough to win the slams. She's got plenty of time on her side, especially with the likes of the Williams sister coming to the twilight of their careers.

I did mean prodigy, damn lager. And I added a little bit onto my earlier post about her becoming a solid top 20 player, I can see that becoming a reality.

Laura Robson is youngest player in the current top 100 of the WTA rankings. Not that bad then.

Top 20 is pushing it, in my opinion, I'd go more for top 30 / 40. I'm not saying she's the most dreadful player in the history of the world, and of course as she gets older she'll get better, but I think any improvement will consist of her maybe regularly making the third round of the Grand Slams, with occasional forays a few rounds further. I certainly don't see her becoming a star.

:lol:Don't admit that, you'll be tarred as a lone alcoholic loser.

Robson will be a good tennis player. Maybe not number 1 material but she'll definitely have a good career. Easy to forget how young she is.

What's everyones view on the olympics so far? I must admit, I've thoroughly enjoyed them. Perhaps it's because South Africa have done so well this year (yes, 3 golds is awesome for us) or because there is more coverage than ever. Regardless of the reason, it just seems so enjoyable so far. Hopefully this week will be good too.

Really enjoying them apart form the shit US coverage. Having to watch a lot of events online.

Great games, well done London and props to Team GB.

Hallucinogen will be sneering when he sees this.

Just think if the swimming was slightly better we would be even closer. Although not sure who else might have got a medal. Becky might have got better medals, but that's all.

Tancock I expected slightly more from. Halsall had a shout but was unlucky, she really gave it her all.

Anyone saw the boxing? That number one guy won even after using illegal moves and getting 2 warnings, after scores were 19-19.
Anyways, counting on Vijender Singh to get some medal.

Team GB have 8 out of 10 boxers in QF fighting for medals.

Luke Campbell won today so he is guaranteed a bronze.

Slightly worried the medals will dry up after the Cycling starts to come to a close.

The rate will slow, definitely. But we usually pick up a couple in Boxing (we're guaranteed at least one after one of our lads won tonight) and we're doing very well in the Equestrian stuff at the moment as well. Cycling has a few days left so should pick up more there. Mo Farah has the 5,000m to come still and has a chance there.

But certainly with Rowing over and Cycling nearing the latter stages, the numbers will slow.

Still big hope for gold with Victoria Pendleton in the women's sprint and Shanaze Reade women's BMX who are big favorites. As you say Farah in 5000k and not to forget Idowu in triple jump I know he's missed time but still has a chance. Robbie Grabarz in the high jump who is 2nd in the world rankings. I guess Dai Greene in the hurdles maybe not a gold but still within a chance of a medal. Also Tom Daley has a chance who was in good form coming in to the Olympics. About all I can think of who is left, I'm sure there will be a surprise or 2.

Olympic wrestling has started. It's always a shame The Rock and The Undertaker can not enter.

Jason Kenny in what looks like a two horse race for the men's sprint as well, so I'd expect a medal there definitely, possibly a gold.

The Equestrian team are in second at the moment, with a lot of the riders sitting high in the individual competition as well. The leaders are Saudi Arabia t the moment, but I think that's a bit of a surprise to everyone, which suggests they might not be able to hold on and GB could potentially get gold there. Not a sport I know much about, but I've enjoyed watching the jumping events.

Also glad we are knocking the stuff out of Australia who just have 1 gold but 12 silvers. Quality.

We've got a fair few chances in boxing too
