London 2012 Olympic Competition

odd call from the ref there, disqualifying the Iranian boxer, who refused to akknoledge the defeat, and left the ring.

Absolute joke of a decision, didn't do anything wrong.

Can't help but feel sorry for that lad. Joke really. The ref was a clown.

I love the boxing but wish it was professional without the headgear.

Read this on the BBC.

Satoshi Shimizu was not a happy man after his defeat to Magomed Abdulhamidov, who fell down five times in the final round:

Shimizu said: "I was so shocked about the result. I didn't know until the final score. The first thing I did after the match was ask the scores.

"I was shocked about the final scores. He fell down so many times. Why didn't I win? I don't understand.

"This is the second Olympic Games I have played and even in Beijing I wasn't happy about the judgement, so I don't know what to do about that. I am really not happy about that.

"But I did do my best. I performed really well. England is the place of boxing and the spectators supported me so well so I am very pleased about that."

Apparently the ref never issued him a count even though he fell 5 times :wenger:

Apparently, and not for the first time at this Olympics it seems, it was a farce of a decision in that one.

There certainly needs to be more transparency in how these bouts are scored, as well as better/more consistant refereeing in general.

Aye, it seems there has been some pretty terrible refereeing/judging.

It's not confined to the Olympics, it's just boxing in general. I still haven't got over the Pacquiao vs Bradley result.

Well, as sad as it is, it's almost to be expected in professional boxing... but in a competition such as the Olympics, you would really hope that fairness and transparency remain paramount.

Jesus Christ... that's even worse then I thought it would be.

I can only think something seriously dodgy has gone on there... it's bizarre.

 What a joke, how more defeated can a boxer be! He could barely stand up. Ref should have called that off.

If there's any justice they would, at the very least, replay both his fight, and the fight with the Iranian lad who was DQ'd...

Really, they should just straight out reverse the decision and award the fight to Shimizu, as it's clear to anyone with a working brain he won that fight... but a replay would at least be something.

Anyway, good win for Joshua, at least there was no monkey business there.

The thing is the way they score these fights, he didn't 'win' by that much, because he was falling over from exhaustion not clean punches from Shimizu. If they were scoring like a professional fight it would have been a 10-7 round at least. So it's hard for the judges in this situation, they could only press when Shimuzu connected with clean shots.

It was the responsibility of the ref to call it off though, no idea why he didn't, nigh on dangerous letting him carry on like that, he could have flat out passed out. Yeahh rematch would be good and fair.

Very close boxing match Joshua wins it by 17 - 16 , no disgrace for Cotilla.

Do they do gender testing at the Olympics?

The most feminine looking is the coach in the middle.

The ref's and judges in this boxing competition are farcical, if its not corrupt then its fecking incompetent to the extreme.

How can you have your opponent down 5 times, atleast 2 of them were legit and not have them called and then only win the round by 2 points? I mean no doubt he was outclassed Shimizu across the first 2 rounds but you have to call it as you see it, he won that last round by a huge margin.

As for the poor Iranian boxer disqualified by a ref who dare not move his lips, it stinks.

Got to say good line that. I can't explain myself when people go the moral road rather than the real road.

Don't know much about badminton, but another article on that site mentions that 'losing on purpose' is fairly common in badminton, like kps88 posted above.

How has the caf not gotten around to this thing that's been just all over the news everywhere:

Apparently it's come to light (via Facebook) that the Austrian judge is almost literally BFFs with numerous people involved in German fencing (players, coaches, officials, etc. you name it)

When does the womens beach volleyball start today? I have no interest in this mens beach volleyball crap.

Tsonga vs djokovic quarter final is going on. Anyone else watching this?

Is it bad etiquette in judo to celebrate while on top of the other judoist?

Was pretty cool there the scream at the end right before she decked the french lady, seemed like pure adrenaline.

Big shock in Boxing , Anthony Ogogo beats the world number one to go through to the last eight.

If you want to see the ridiculous Shimizu fight, here's your link

It's match number 5.

Just watched that fight, that's an absolute joke. If he falls over, a la Haye vs Klitschko, give him the knockdown, deduct points, or DQ him. Don't just keep telling him to get up.

Imagine if Suarez continually dived during a game, and the ref had a word with him every time, just saying "Stop that" without actually doing it. That'd piss you off, and would be deemed as bad refereeing. This was ten times worse.

Does anyone have any idea how long this shooting goes on for, the commentator hasn't said at all how long he needs to keep this lead for.

edit: All the way to 200 shots apparently, that's some test of consistency...

Class at the sitting down sports (cycling, equestrian, canoeing). Even shooting can be done sitting down if you wanted.

If we're sat down, we're brilliant.

Begs the question, why don't we make a clean sweep at the paralympics? :nervous:
