Liverpool have an excellent team but I'd be hugely surprised if they won so many points next season whereas I wouldn't be surprised if City got the same tally again. Now is the chance for Liverpool. And it's probably still 50/50 for the title, mostly because City have several injuries in midfield and no KDB is a big loss. He was their best player in April. IF they win at Burnley though, that changes the situation in their favour. I think Dyche will try to stop them after suffering two humilating 5:0 drubbings ealier this season.

None of us can say with any certainty how next season will pan out. City's head-to-head results against the other sides in the top 6 has been staggeringly good. Maximum 6 points against Arsenal, United, & Spurs. 4 against us, & 3 against Chelsea. Will they manage that again next time out ? You'd assume that most of the other clubs will seek to improve on that side of things. I wouldn't be surprised to see a points total in the late 80's win it next year.

Yeah of course you are in a great position, problem is like us, you have won nothing. I fully expect Real and Barca to come after your better players, that will be the real test for you. Salah, Mane, Firminho and Van Dyke. Will be an interesting summer, for the sake of the PL I hope you can keep them.

Barca can't sign any Liverpool players until summer 2020 at the earliest anyway. Real are feasibly the only club that is a step up from Liverpool at this moment in time and they've been shite this season.

Liverpool might not win anything this season but they're a damn sight more attractive to potential signings than United being totally honest. Salah, Mane, Firminho & VVD are going nowhere this summer and Liverpool will probably sign big again. I can see Timo Werner going there and performing brilliantly. They'll probably sign a back up RB and LB and ship out some shite like Moreno & Sturridge.

On the other hand, who are United going to bring in? The very top players would probably laugh at a call from Woodward. The next tier down will probably have offers from elsewhere too and could conceivably feck United off for another club. Yes United can offer massive wages but so can pretty much every top European club now.

Liverpool, I don't see them going away whilst Klopp is at the helm. I think he's in for the long haul and will desperately want to win the league with this squad. I can't see him leaving until he does so.

They won 24 from 30 against the top 6 last season, this season they won 25 from 30. They are consistent. And improving. It's only because they have improved that they haven't missed KDB this season. If he and the other top stars are available next season, late 80's won't be enough for a title (for another team, that is).

Nope. This was your chance.

You'll never get this lucky again, no team probably ever will. This many decisions won't go your way, not as many keepers will throw it in their net for you, maybe Salah will start getting banned for cheating (haha joke, he's immune).

This was the best chance for Liverpool, you had basically the perfect season. And it probably won't be enough because City are just that much better that they can beat you even when the stars align for you.

Liverpool should go all out for CL now. Barca favourites but you can certainly cause them issues with your style.

No one with a straight face can say winning a champions league is just a consolation prize, it's the holy grail for any serious English club. Real Madrid have pretty much thrown league campaigns to win it in recent years.

This sounds so incredibly bitter. How many jammy 1-0's have Spurs had this season? Are you lucky to be in the top 4?

They can, it's just they may have to pay a premium, but if say Salah was adamant he wanted to go to Barca, they'd probably agree a fee in excess of £100m, no club wants to keep mardy players around.

I would not make Barcelona favourites for that tie at all. I think Liverpool are now favourites for the whole competition.

Liverpool are a team still in transition, they are buying for the future, players that are prepared to put a shift in, any team finishing second to Man City is not a sign of failure, they could still get 97 points and still come second, in "normal" seasons they would win the league hands down with that many points, I would be more disappointed if "my" team were buying expensive, end of playing career players on high wages who occasionally turned up.

Leicester will be tricky too. They beat city around xmas.
Hope Brendan does us all a favour and rolls over. Need early City goals in both those games, they're usually good at completely killing off a game when they're winning.

Newcastle and Wolves are our best bet at stopping Liverpool. Rafa's probably not gonna care since Newcastle are safe anyway, and Wolves may not have much to play for in the final game. Still, I can see Wolves snatch a draw.

Very few. People mistake jammy wins for late goals, we've had plenty of those but they've mostly been deserved and fair goals.

We've had VERY few referee decisions go in our favour compared to you and very few direct errors leading to goals, you lead that table too.

I've watched nearly all your games this season (when we don't clash with you) and clearly you're the second best team in the league, but you should be about 10 points off that City side, you're clearly a step behind. A lot has gone your way to make it this close.

When did I say it was a sign of failure? I just said that this was their best hope of winning the league because they've had all the luck in the world this season.

Exactly, Liverpool have had nearly a perfect year and will probably finish on 97 points yet STILL won't win it. They aren't as good as City and won't be capable of being this consistent next season, hence why I think this was their best shot.

They haven't failed this season, they've been excellent, it's just amusing that despite all that they probably won't win it. It feels almost like they're cursed, either they get close and you get a Gerrard slip, or they have basically the perfect season but their rivals somehow still best it.

Liverpool's record is also good.
6 vs Spurs
4 vs Chelsea
4 vs Manutd
4 vs Arsenal

Doubt they can match this record again. Like you said, other teams will improve too.

Until Man City run out of money they will win the title every year, Liverpool are the only team in contention and there is no reason to think that they cant next year. P.S I'm not a Liverpool fan.

If this Liverpool team is in transition then by definition all teams everywhere are in transition. They had two major problems that everyone in the country could identify -centre back and goalkeeper- and spent large to fix them and were set to go. They've done that. Ok, they could do with another option in midfield but they are about as complete a team as you'll see (no one apart from City can manage the 2 world class players in every position scenario). It is, from their point of view, a positive shame that they are up against Pep Guardiola and Billions FC at the same time they have the best squad they've had for decades. But we had the same issue in the CL with his Barcelona side, so no sympathy here.

Yes they are. Not least because the competition - Arsenal, Chelsea, ourselves - is so inept it beggars belief.

i think every team learns something every season. This season we've had too many draws, so hopefully will look to correct that through summer recruitment. If we'd got Fekir last summer it might've been a different proposition. Hopefully we recruit right in the summer and turn some of those draws into wins. I think we'll still challenge for the title next year. I've still not given up hope for this year, although Spurs and United were my picks of the games for City to drop points.

There is every reason to think they won't challenge next year.

They've had a freak season in terms of decisions, errors from opposition etc, the chances of that happening again? Low.

VAR would have stopped their title challenge if it was in place this season.

What table? One made by opposition fans?

We've had plenty of ref decisions go against us too, and City have had decisions go for them too because of your obvious bias against us you simply ignore them.

Doubt Liverpool are going to have a season like this again and it's just sad that they won't cap it off to win the title.

From the non-penalty in the last minute at Spurs, the Sturridge late wondergoal at Chelsea, the missed Mahrez penalty, the ridiculous disallowed goal against Fulham that allowed them score on the break, the last minute Origi freak goal against Everton, the deflected Shaqiri winners against Man Utd, the shady penalty and winner against Brighton, the performance by Speroni, the gift from Rico, the last minute clanger for the winner from Lloris, the triple Hazard one on one misses, backs to the wall comeback against Southampton.

Not to mention their couple offside Mane goals.

They really had everything going for them this season...unbelievable they probably won't win it.

Yep. Unless Pep goes City will get a similar points tally next season. Liverpool won’t come close to the same number of points even if they hold onto all their best players. The amount of luck they’ve had with injuries, refereeing decisions and goalkeeping errors is not going to be repeated.

Also I don't remember Liverpool conceding a wonder goal out of nowhere - in the manner City conceded against Palace (Townsend) and to some extent also vs Leicester away. It's almost inevitable that you concede some such goals over 38 games. IIRC, Liverpool have not conceded from a wonder strike so far.

I still think it is 50/50 though. All 3 games City have to play are potential banana skins.

Nope, not fan made. You've had the most keeper mistakes against you and most unforced errors this season in the PL.

No you haven't. You've had a few go against you and far more go for you. City have had a couple of decisions at best, very few of which have been game changing ones.

No team will ever score more offside goals than Liverpool this season, it's a farce.

Leicester will be tricky too. They beat city around xmas.

At Leicester. Can’t see them getting anything in Manchester.

City have dropped 10 points at home over two seasons, five of which were when they’d effectively already won the league.

Just Messi in GOAT form for me this season but certainly with second leg at Anfield this is much closer tie than Man. United game was.

Where is all this evidence then? City have had plenty go there way like i said before your bitterness towards Liverpool and desperation for City to win the league has clouded your judgement.

Arsenal have made the most unforced errors leading to goals guess that makes Spurs lucky to be ahead of them?

IF's and But's, if my aunty had balls she would be my uncle, watch MoTD how many goals go through the defenders legs, how nicks or deflections, every season, every team, we all get them and get them against us.

Uh no, if you make errors that's your own fault.

Liverpool have benefited from the most unforced errors GOING FOR THEM.

Where is all this evidence? I'm not going to go through all the referee decisions/offsides/poor penalty decisions which have gone your way this season, frankly it's every other week. I've just told you that you have had the most keeper errors benefiting you, and the most unforced errors benefiting you.

Your love for Liverpool and desperation to act like you haven't been fortunate is clouding your judgement.

If City hadn’t had lost their best player for the majority of the season they would be out of sight by now tbh. I still expect them to lift the title at the end of the season, best team in England by a long way IMO.

I would personally like to congratulate Man City on a back to back league title and 98pts. Winning 14 in a row is something special. Well done from a Liverpool fan.

See what I did there.

The only thing that will make this season now is a sixth champions league title

Are Felix and Pepe not wide players? I think Werner would be massive in the PL tbh, he has everything required.

I have not seen too much of Werner but every time I see him play (mostly for Germany) he has been average.

Think Liverpool do need
- a striker to challenge front three - Sturridge and Origi are not good enough.
- attacking mid - look at what Bernardo silva offers city!
- maybe CB or RB - if Robertson gets crocked you got Moreno! Would love to see De Ligt at Liverpool.
