Settling for a point at OT is going to come back and haunt them. We were there for the taking that game with all our injuries but you got the feeling they were okay with a draw the longer that game went on.

Yup we has three injuries in first forty five mins and rashford was half injured and yet they couldn't win or even outplayed us.

As depressing as it is, them losing the title is going to be the highlight of our season. They simply cannot win.

And losing this one after getting so close will mean they won't come near one for another decade.

City need to fecking win out.

The tears are so tasty.

Next season is next season, we don't know if Cheaty Mo or Mane might leave. But I don't think that would totally disrupt them because imo it's the tactical system which makes them so difficult to play against. I reckon the parts are interchangeable to a large extent. I wouldn't say they'll do ''as well'' because they've had a few breaks & not many injuries. The MF might even improve though - Keita (at last) & Fabinho look like an upgrade, potentially.

I also fancy them to beat Barcelona & that probably means #6. I could easily be wrong about that though, hopefully.

Burnley could be City’s banana skin?

What about Wolves for the Scousers then? Certainly no pushovers.

Agree that this is a different Liverpool team to the title challengers of ‘09 & ‘14 though. Unfortunately, I don’t see them dropping off a cliff until Klopp suffers burnout. Which, looking at his Dortmund tenure, he will at some point.

I know people talk about Benitez bending over but I honestly think that Newcastle away will be tough. Pool play Barca the Wednesday and then Newcastle(with a whole week preperation) the Saturday night.

I agree. Liverpool fans expecting a gift from Benitez might be in for a shock.

Liverpool aren't at their best after European games, epecially away from home. To travel to Barcelona and back and have just 2 days to prepare for another away game won't be easy at all.

All this support makes me miss living in manchester, where was all this comraderie when I was a kid

Who suggested it would be? If anything, it's mostly the United fans in here predicting we won't drop any points trying to jinx it

Huddersfield at home *should* be a walkover though, and I think we'll see some changes to rest some players for the Barcelona away game maybe. If City don't drop points at Burnley on Sunday, the title race is over before the Newcastle game anyway.

They were convinced City were going to drop points tonight, weren’t they? I can picture them now, completely dumbfounded at home contemplating what they just saw. Marvellous win and performance from a injury-hit City tonight, in striking contrast to the shite Klopp served up at Old Trafford when we had eleven first-teamers absent and had put out the stiffs. They had ONE shot on goal that day. That’s the difference in quality between City and Liverpool, and the biggest indicator that City deserve to win the league.

I certainly wasn't. This is what I posted on Monday with regards to the title race:

It would be every Liverpool supporter's wet dream for us to win the league with Everton & United being complicit in our success. Everton thrash United, who in turn get loads of flack, who in turn put in a performance trying to prove everyone wrong by taking points off City..........Alas, it's not to be though. We only managed a draw at OT, but this was when United were still in feel-good-mode with Ole at the wheel. It's all gone very toxic since then, & I doubt very much that'll change by Wednesday night. Wouldn't be surprised to see City go in at half time with at least a 2 goal lead, & then see the game out in 2nd gear. Burnley will be another stroll for you guys. Leicester could cause a few problems, but much will depend how arsed they are on the day. Could be interesting if it goes to the last day with both teams still in contention for the league, especially if Brighton need something from their match against yourselves. Exciting stuff nonetheless.

Wasn't quite correct with the timing of the goals, but I was spot on with everything else. I even stuck a huge wedge on City winning the game such was my confidence in them doing the business, & your boys continuing your downward trajectory.

I'm sure a good chunk of Liverpool fanbase harbour hopes that Benitez will help. Admittedly, many United fans believe it as well. Maybe I'm naive but I think it will be a more difficult game for Liverpool than expected.

I did not expect anything from last days match. Manchester United have been aweful in the derby at home. For me, I was certain that Manchester City would win this one. I was however suprised that Manchester United did hold to 0-0 for that long. I honestly thought City wuld score early, and this would be around the 4-0 or more, or City would turn off after 2-0 or something and rest in the game.

I am enjoying this season so much. We are up there fighting. Can't remember the last time it felt like we had a proper team that could fight for titles. Right now, we are fighting for the two big ones in club football. We can end up with nothing, one trophy, or both, even though I expect the first one. But, this team has given me some really good memories this season, and seeing my son enjoying the home matches is really given me joy.

Of course we secretly hope that it might be a factor, and I'm pretty sure Benitez himself would want us to win as well, but he won't just gift it to us on a plate, he's too professional for that and rightfully so. Just like many Utd fans hoped that Ole & the players would throw the game yesterday, I thought they came out well and gave it a good try as true professionals.

Newcastle away has always been a difficult one for us. If City doesn't win at Burnley, I think we'll win the title. If they do, I think we might drop points at Newcastle and see them become champions at home against Leicester (we play Sat night, they play Mon night).

I doubt very much that Benitez will set his side up to lose the game. Now that they're safe, the players attitude might have something to do with it if we do win. But playing in front of their own fans, I'd expect them to give us a tough game regardless. It certainly won't be a walkover that's for sure.

Oh look another new scousers member.

I’m not new. I think it was a fair question. Some posters are laughing their guts out about this. About you losing to your local rivals. Liverpool are, at worst going to finish second and appear in a second consecutive semi-final in Europe. Yes. It hurts that city are going to win it. I can be honest about it. But the hurt at missing out on a title with what might be the most points ever accrued is not even close to watching both of your rivals fight it out for the title, watching your team be, quite Frankly, a joke and not fit to represent your club, being out of Europe, and finishing outside the top places. I know this because I’ve been in that position most seasons over the last 25 years.

If the only joy you can get is looking up the table and seeing one of your rivals miss out to another rival because you lost to them, then maybe it’s not just your players who have allowed the standard to drop. You’re in danger of doing what Liverpool have done, winning everything then fecking off into major-honour obscurity. If you want a haughty chuckle at us... knock yourself out.

Inject this salt directly to my veins.

 You should win a trophy or two before bleating on about the standing of clubs. You've done feck all for the last 14 years. That's pathetic and the sign of your supposed stature. Enjoy your Leicester season.

That’s been my go-to line since the final whistle last night and I’ve hooked many Scouse friends with it. They were giving it large with the last few weeks that United would hand Liverpool the title by taking points off City (I admit, I was nervous it would happen) but now the football gods have looked kindly upon us all, I’ve been reminding them how cowardly and stunningly shite they were against a United reserves team at Old Trafford (who also had four first half injuries and played 2/3 of the game with effectively 10 men) and that that result will be the one which costs them the title. I think Klopp himself realised this after the game with his bizarre rant about injuries affecting their rhythm (the cheek!) but the only intention there was to deflect from another terrible performance at Old Trafford under him and one which will (hopefully) ultimately cost them the title.

It’s glorious.

They won't. Not Burnley. City is completely exhausted and shot at this point. No legs in any of their players. They only beat United because United have been playing like a relegated spineless coward club the last 6 to 8 matches. It's the same as playing Huddlesfield at this point. Burnley on the other hand is on absolute fire. You can say they are the third best club in the premier league over the last 4 matches. Only City and Liverpool have been more impressive. It's all about current form and Burnley is on red hot form. They are also rested and refreshed. They will go into the City match fighting 100%. City WILL drop points at Burnley. I will not be shocked if they lose, I definitely see City playing a draw.

It's funny, people think United was going to be City's biggest obstacle. All along it's been Burnley.
Oh please what a load of nonsense..

They won the whole thing. It's more like Enjoy your 'Liverpool' season where they almost won the league like in 2008-09, 2013-14.

I think the game they are most likely to drop points in is Leicester.

You can see the headlines now. Brendan Rodgers finally wins the league for Liverpool

Domination? Haha You are clearly deluded or have provlems. 30years loading.

I think anybody thinking we are like Leicester, coming from nowhere as a 5000 to 1 shot (we were second favourites) and disappear next season, are kidding themselves. We came off the back of continued improvement, getting into the top four regularly, getting to the final of the CL, then having a season where we’ve already scored 7 more points than Leicester’s title winning side with another 9 to play for.

We aren’t as good as City, probably the best and most expensively assembled squad ever built. But that doesn’t make us plucky chumps. We have built this squad gradually and we are in a really good position to challenge next season too.

Wooosh.
You concluded all that from my one post which literally didn't say anything other than another Liverpool fan poster..

The Everton game is a good example of a team with a whole week to prepare.

Yeah of course you are in a great position, problem is like us, you have won nothing. I fully expect Real and Barca to come after your better players, that will be the real test for you. Salah, Mane, Firminho and Van Dyke. Will be an interesting summer, for the sake of the PL I hope you can keep them.

I don't think any of them will leave this Summer tbh. They all seem to love playing for the club and are under contract for a few more years. Apart from Barcelona and Real, there are also no teams they could join that would currently be a step-up. Firmino isn't a Barca/Real type of signing imo, Mane has recently said he wants to get to 100 PL goals (on 62 now), Salah's agent immediately crushed down the Real links Marca (or AS, can't remember) were making, and Van Dijk has only recently joined us. Add to that it would cost almost €200m to even entice the club into negotiations, I think they all will stay put.

I also really like the names we've been linked with so far, e.g. Joao Felix, Nicolas Pepe, and Timo Werner to a lesser extent. Not household names but players that would further strengthen our squad. I think a RB back-up, a first XI starting CB (can't really on Gomez but great if he's fit) and a CAM should be our top priorities, together with a back-up CF should Sturridge and/or Origi leave.

Are Felix and Pepe not wide players? I think Werner would be massive in the PL tbh, he has everything required.

Liverpool have an excellent team but I'd be hugely surprised if they won so many points next season whereas I wouldn't be surprised if City got the same tally again. Now is the chance for Liverpool. And it's probably still 50/50 for the title, mostly because City have several injuries in midfield and no KDB is a big loss. He was their best player in April. IF they win at Burnley though, that changes the situation in their favour. I think Dyche will try to stop them after suffering two humilating 5:0 drubbings ealier this season.

We may not win anything like you but you can see how Klopp is improving us year upon year. Poch has been charge for much longer even though he's doing a great job you haven't really kicked on to the next level which you could do if you purchased a few top players (like Klopp did this season) and now your some of your top players' contracts are coming to an end and you'll find them difficult to replace like for like.

I think those players mentioned will cost far too much for Real and Barca all of them have signed long contracts on good wages i can't see us letting them leave this summer, unless it's for absolutely stupid prices like Coutinho.
