Now that the initial blitz of reaction is over after last night I'll offer up my take on it all.

Firstly, credit to City and Guardiola for changing the way they've played against us this season. Whilst it may seem an obvious thing that needed doing, some managers can be stubborn and refuse to change. The controlled cautiousness with the ball and attempted press without, shown by both teams, definitely suited City better, which isn't that surprising given their technically superior midfield players.

On the midfield point I feel that Klopp made a mistake with the starting midfield 3. Fabinho should clearly have started given how we finally began to get some control after he came on. I understand why he picks the Gini/Hendo/Milner 3 as they have served us well at times in big games, even this season at home to Psg, but the time has come to abandon it against pure top class opposition away from home. At home with the majority of possession and vocalness of the home support they still have their place together, but away from home, under pressure and with less of the ball, it doesn't work. The front 3 become too isolated and made to live on scraps.

Lovren. He's obviously not as good as he thinks. However he's also not as bad as the majority on here think. As a backup centre back, which he now is due to the advances Gomez has made this season, he's more than adequate to fill that role. I've criticised him in the past but since the disaster of the 4-1 Spurs game he's really knuckled down and played well. Even last night, all you can really say is Aguero nipped in front of him but it still took some finish from where he was to score. I've no problems with him playing at all when needed.

Last point on the game is that it looked like after the equaliser that we sensed the kill, and as a result the game became too open for my liking, as can be seen by Sane's winner. Maybe that can be put down to inexperience of the situation I'm not sure. Yes a win would've been great but a point would've done equally as nicely. A small nitpick, and not a bad thing in that they wanted to open up and finish City off, but maybe cooler and controlled heads were needed at that point.

In summary, we're still 4 points clear. 7 or 9 (From Spurs lest everyone forget about them!) would've been nice but it wasn't to be. Certainly no Liverpool fan thought it was over. We recognise that we are still in the drivers seat and there should be no panic yet. Failure to beat Brighton a week Saturday and then it becomes a different story!

Thanks for your take on it. Lots in there that hasn't been said already.

They're doing some odd business by sending Clyne on loan. Unless Clyne really insisted on it, you'll need everyone to maintain the current depth. Yes, theoretically you could put Fabinho/Gomez/Milner at RB, but why would you do that? You gotta keep those guys at their most preferred positions and use Clyne instead.

It's like City's issue with Fernandinho being out. Yes, you can put Stones/Gundogan at DM but it's more likely to cost points.

Eh, the loss against City doesn't matter. They will still win the title just like we all knew last year City would win.

Next year, we'll be back in the mix though!

Liverpool might well win it but the title race this season is completely different to last season.

City were 15 pts clear after 21 games last season whereas Liverpool are 4 pts clear now. Even Spurs who are 3rd now are just 6 pts off the top. No one really knows what's going to happen.

Yup, we don't even know how this current city side will react to pressure. I'm surprised Pep didn't start resting players in the league last season and really go for the UCL, with that massive lead. It's the holy grail for City like the Premier League is for us.

Hoping the Kompany red card isn’t like the sterling offside come May.

You can factor it in with mahrez missed pen at anfield and other scenarios like playing Leicester without vardy etc. It's pretty much all gone your way until this game!

I was just about to post that. Unbelievable. I cannot stand that fan base.

I guess so, the mane offside vs arsenal away I guess so we have had bad luck too!! But we’ll see come the end of the season, 13/14 wounds still fresh.

City 2-1 Liverpool.

Tough game, and we edged it. So, 4 points behind with Liverpool still favourites.
The poll above?

62% think Liverpool will win the league by 20+ points? Wow, if they do win it, I would like to think it would be below the minimum 10-14 on offer in that poll

Why do Liverpool play their cup game on Monday?

It feels like they've had more rest than anyone else over the Christmas period

That's amazing

TV money, I guess. They were always going to get the City game on its own, and because we've a PL clash in the cup, they probably want to take it from the Sunday & put it on the Monday for money again.

Klopp botteled the title decider. Picked the wrong team with Henderson and Milner. Went more defensive and it backfired. City were there for the taking

It feels that way...because they have!
They played the first game on a Friday night, and then have played the last game on the Thursday. The widest period of games of anyone.
Did have one tough game v City though, and Arsenal should have been a challenge!

Another comedy gold excuse

Yet Klopp didn't trust his 90m of centre mid signings to start the game, instead going for the Hendo-Milner combo.

It is to his credit he's got an outfit with those two playing regularly top of the league!

Oh yeah, back on thread topic, they’re definitely still going to win the league. It’s just nice to have a few laughs at their expense along the way.

We'd better have a proper striker replacement lined up. We've already let Ings go, now Solanke... Hope the Werner rumors have some ground then.
I think Rhian Brewster is earmarked for the role

Sadly as you guys have mentioned, Klopp did indeed bottle it. He went for the "safe" midfield which sadly is extremely limited technically.
With the two clubs comparative forms, now was the time to play Salah through the middle, play Fabinho and really try and win this title.

The fact we needed either a win or a draw to keep the title strongly in our favour shows the limitatons of Klopp and the squad. We had the easier job, and we bottled it. Its upsetting but I can only hope City trip up a few more times as our lack of depth once the Champions league kicks in will be evident.

Also letting Clyne go on loan is baffling.

Still in your favour, you'd obvs much prefer a 4point lead than a deficit, and in theory you have the easier "run in" (seems ridiculous calling 17.18 games a run in), but it's true.

However, you're a Salah injury away from a massive hole in that team, whereas City have pretty much ridden out De Bruyne, Mendy and Aguero missing massive stretches.
The law of averages suggests Liverpool will have a proper "off" spell too, like City's recent little blip.

Something else that is a mystery to me. They waffle on about their trademark 'umbleness & arrive at games in a bus that looks like this.

That is the most suspicious looking bus I have ever seen.

Why is there a flap open at the back and what's with the antenna on the front and why does it look like it's about to transform into an insect and why.... Oh, just forget it.

It's a model, isn't it?

There’s a comment Zidane made about Spain some time around 2000-2005 (probably), that always stuck with me because it was on the button.

Something along the lines of “once Spain start winning and get over the mental obstacle, they won’t stop winning”.

It troubles me somewhat that it will happen with Liverpool. I’m not saying they will dominate the League or Champions League every season, but I don’t think it will be a Leicester style one off either. If they win a league title, the monkey will be off their back and it will be a lot easier for them mentally.
