Liverpool - 2017/18

Disappointed with Klopp spending so much on a player. I guess he's caught the Premier League bug of having to spend big on players whose quality can be found on lower fees with a bit more scouting.

He ofcourse had a better scouting network at Dortmund and was able to find players like Hummels, Subotic (while he was at Mainz), Bender but it's clear he's changed with the culture in the EPL. I was hoping he would bring a fresh approach to managing by developing players bought for small fees and competing for trophies with them, something that Tottenham have ended up doing over the last couple of years.

Two massive signings already for next season, only puts him under more pressure to get trophies. Although we don't know maybe he's made these signings with the knowledge that the fees will be recouped with the sale of Coutinho.

Liverpool fixing their defensive problems and will be a stronger team from now on.

I couldn't care less if they spent much more than necessary for VVD but it strengthens Jose's talk that if teams want to compete properly then the 'big' teams have to spend.

If they can get Goretzka on a free based on their ambition shown with this and the Keita transfer it will EASILY be worth it. Goretzka is a 75M player by himself.

Why not? You have the most expensive squad ever assembled. I'll be dining on that for years

And we don't need another LB. Robertson is looking a good player.

Factually incorrect. Unless you failed maths in school.

City have the most expensive squad ever assembled followed closely by PSG.

Then United then Chelsea etc..

People really overrate Goretzka on here.

He´s exactly the kind of midfielder they need. Goretzka/Keita instead of Henderson/Can is a much bigger upgrade than VvD to Klavan in the most crucial area of the field. I wouldn´t worry too much about the VVD upgrade, but if they get Goretzka to pair with Keita. That´s the real game changer for Liverpool imho.

I think he ends up at Bayern anyway but, people talk about him like he is an elite player

They are so deluded. Anyway let them enjoy coming to the big money table. Bit like the poor kid getting a golden ticket for Willy Wonka's factory.
I guess Klopp will finally assemble 'his team'. Lets he how that pans out. Maybe they'll win something halfway.

That is one huge fee, if he solves their defensive issues though it could be worth it with the attack they have, can't see it with the current goalkeeper mind.

Incredible fee.

Citeh are buying full backs for stiker fees and now Libpool are buying central defenders for striker fees.

feck it . A cheap joke but ....

United are the most successful team in English football my friend. So that's Mr Wonka to you.

An apt name indeed. If I remember correctly Willy Wonka gives everything to poor little Charlie.

Seriously tho, I find it strange that some Utd fans are scoffing at the fee the day after your manager bemoaned not spending enough and mentioned the high fees city paid for defenders. Also considering your two cbs signed by Jose cost £70m and Klopps two cbs cost £75m.

Of course I do see the irony of the huge fee after Klopps comments about pogbas fee - but in all fairness that was 18 months ago and the market has gone fecking crazy since then.

£75m for him is absolutely insane.
Wasn't it Klopp who said:

“The day that this is football, I’m not in a job anymore, because the game is about playing together,' when commenting on our purchase of Pogba for a world record fee??

The guy talks out of his backside and is such a hypocrite after buying Van Dyk for a world record fee.

Will the media pick up on this? Will they feck

He’s better than any of our current CB’s imo.

I’m delighted that we’ve signed him.

Be honest though it's not that difficult to be better than that bunch.

Far too much money. He isn't even the best CB in England let alone the world. Plus he's not potential as already developed.

You'll find everyone is scoffing at the fee as its just ridiculous. VVD isn't even the best centre half in the PL let alone worth the biggest ever fee for a defender.

Massive overspend.

Oh, that's ok then. I take it back.
Klopp isn't a hypocritical bellend after all.

And ye have spent the most amount of money on a CB ever and a bucket load on an unproven CM. Fair play to ye but no more taking the piss out of us for it if ye don't want it back. Don't think Robertson is good enough for a team looking to challenge for the title.
Unproven ? Maybe only in your eyes.

Time will tell of course but as much as anything I’m delighted to see us showing real ambition. The fact that other top clubs were interested and we got him is another good sign. He certainly won’t solve all our defensive issues but it’s a good start.

He is an upgrade for sure. I'm tipping Liverpool for 2nd this season and with Keita to come and good summer business Liverpool to challenge for the title proper next year.

I'm not even going to talk about the fee as it's pointless. Football has gone mad the last couple of years.

Somebody tell me where to go to learn to be an agent as these fookers are making a killing.

We were buying VVD and Keita last Summer even before Barca came in for Coutinho .. they are not related. Our budget last Summer was, supposedly - nobody could ever say for certain, £150M not dependent on sales.

So I guess Man City, Chelsea, United and Spurs' scouting depts are also lacking, compared to your German clubs eh ? After all Otamendi, Mangala, Sanchez, Rudiger and Lindelof have not exactly set the world ablaze.

And if you think that buying low priced players and developing them is ever going to compete, even just for Top 4, in the PL that is clearly deluded. Unfortunately with the money that City, United, Arsenal and Chelsea (and that's only in the PL) can now throw around it's a case of join them or become increasingly irrelevant.

We’ve just signed a player named after a virgin lesbian. If that doesn’t win you league titles then nothing will.

We used to complain about missing out on our top targets because we weren't willing to cough up a few extra millions to get them, so no point in complaining now when we've actually signed the player we have wanted since last summer. It's crazy money but who cares if he fixes our defensive issues (not convinced he'll do that all by himself though). Even if he just proves to be the difference between top four or not this season, he'll be worth every penny imo since it's mightily important to maintain our "top four club" status wrt next transfer window.
