Liverpool - 2017/18

We fell to pieces when Mane went to the AFCON, then came back and was injured for the rest of season, allied to injuries during this period to virtually all of top players (Coutinho, Lallana, Firmino, Matip, Henderson). With a squad with a very small core of good players it meant we actually had a bench with an average age of 19.2 yrs old for one PL match. But no doubt RC will prefer your one-eyed version.

You shouldn't have fell apart like that though let's be honest. Klopp's fault though for trimming the squad too much and his ill treatment of Sakho

I do agree with you over Sakho, a player I've always quite liked to be honest, not perfect by any means but had very good days as well as poor ones and would have been a much better replacement than Klavan and Lucas (and maybe meant we finished in 3rd place instead of 4th).
I'm not sure he really did anything to deserve being totally ostracised but then we haven't seen behind closed doors (though the lack of rumours, at least, would suggest it wasn't anything THAT heinous).

I can sympathise with Klopp over the squad size though, domestic only competition and not wanting to waste money on players who may have no part to play in a CL season, I don't think the depth of of injury crisis could have been foreseen, that was really bad luck overall.

We deffo need depth . When we have t play Lucas ( who I like ) as a midfielder when Henderson is out we have to ask questions. When we play him in central defence you have to ask more questions. Sometime in the Spring I remember a commentator speaking about Liverpool's bench . I think he said the players on the bench have 80 odd Premiership games between them and Moreno has about 60 of them .

Anyway.. blah , blah … you get my point .

Moreno was the oldest (at 23) on that bench .. which had an average age of 19.2 yrs !

Delighted with this. A very good start (along with the youngster Solanke). Now hopefully we can get Kierney, Keita and resurrect the VVD deal .. when the window actually opens :D

Mohamed Salah is set to become the club’s record signing with the transfer fee, including add-ons.
Salah is scheduled to arrive in the UK later today with a medical expected to take place tomorrow before he pens a five-year contract.

The 25-year-old winger wore No 11 at Roma but that shirt is currently taken at Liverpool by Roberto Firmino. As a result he has expressed an interest in wearing No 9 - which has been vacant since Christian Benteke left Liverpool for Crystal Palace last summer.
Salah was given the green light to fly to the UK after a breakthrough in protracted negotiations between the two clubs.

Two absolutely rapid wingers with technique and goals in them on each flank. Holy grail achieved.

Hopefully, this utopian combo is going to deliver. Salah looks like a good player, but I would be surprised if he can keep Mane or Lallana out of the team.

Not ideal having your best wide threats being representatives of stronger African nations, but Salah is a good signing for Liverpool.

True, but AFCON isn't in the coming season, and the coming season is when we really need to prove ourselves & try our best to maintain that top four spot.

By then Le Tallec should have staked his claim in the side. We'll be fine.

About time. It was becoming comical, considering how Liverpool aren't afraid to splash the cash for good, but not WC players.

A signing which does nothing to address their weakness in defence. Yep, I'm happy with that too ;)
Multiple sources close to the club have confirmed our other priorities are LB, CB and CM. It's still only mid-June :)

Good signing, considering we're going to spunk 60-70m on Morata this looks a very good deal for them at 35m

Hopefully Klopp knows the weaknesses of the team, just like everyone else. Strengthening the squad was a key priority. Salah is a high quality addition

Decent signing, although he wasnt great but to be fair to him he wasnt given too many chances by Mourinho. I think he will be a good squad addition to Liverpool. They needed depth with them expecting to play many more games this season.. Lets see what they can get in defence and Midfield before deciding if its a good window or not.

Can't stop laughing at this. What a weird way to announce a new signing

42 million euros +8 million bonuses according to Roma's official website, does finishing in Champions league spot give Liverpool so much windfall?
That is the same price as bernardo silva, Roma seem to have gotten a great fee, i thought this was like 30 million.

Not overly bothered about this signing but there's a lot of dynamism in the front 3 or 4 for the scousers now, and the pace on offer will make them good going forward. Would like a bit more of that at OT.

He is about as good as what they have already, which gives them some options when one of the others can't play because they are getting their nails done.

That pogba fee was a steal. And this deal makes Morata's fee also fair.

I don't think he's any better than Firmino, Mane or Coutinho and if that's their biggest transfer this summer it will be a bit uninspiring. Having said that, good addition to the squad and I think there's a healthy chance Liverpool will look quite strong next season.

Premier League really seems to be spiked with this kind of well-above-average-but-never-world-class players

Their back 5 is still shit.
Mignolet, Clyne, Matip, Lovren, Milner.

Not shit. Not at all. None of those players are bad players. Even Mignolet has recovered and had a good season. The narrative distorts the reality.

Klopp plays with a very attacking approach, it's tough playing defence for Liverpool.

That's fine. Those players are very good and score and create bundles. If Salah matches them he's a bargain in the current market. Doesn't have to be better. Liverpool just needed more.

It's not the same price since it's £37m while City paid £43m for Bernardo Silva ;)

It's a fair price, no steal for us but we've not overpaid either imo. This is a player with something like 19 goals and 11 assists last season, and the Serie A is probably higher quality than Ligue 1 at the moment - Bernardo Silva had 8 goals and 9 asissts for arguably the best, most free-flowing attacking team in the world last season. The only thing he has on Salah right now is age, and more hype.

He's very much more of the same. Suggests that Klopp isn't going to have a plan b again. I think Liverpool actually need a proper top class striker rather than yet another attacking midfielder.

Nothing will change in Liverpool. Same old same old. Inconsistent as always.

They'll score a lot of goals again next season which should be enough for them to remain in the top 4. Not good enough for a genuine title challenge yet though, imo.

Last time I feared Liverpool (but only a bit) they had Gerrard and Suarez in their line-up. You need some stand out players. 40M is a fair price and good business, I'd say.

Liverpool do have stand out players. But so do four or five teams. It's a very tough league.

Are you saying this transfer is a measure as to Pogba's value? A strange comparison.
he's looking for a bite I think :lol::D

But no the fee seems to be circa 35M with bonuses which is an absolute steal in this market for a player with his record. It's no exaggeration to say if he was English the price would be double. It remains to be seen how he does but on paper it looks promising but then again football isn't played on paper.

I was hoping we'd address that issue in this window but I get the impression that Klopp doesn't want to buy another striker. He's prioritising LB, CB and a midfielder now apparently.

One of the best midfielders of his generation and the best striker in the world. Even if we could afford the current best strikers in the world, do you honestly think they would want to join Liverpool? We can't buy world class players at the moment because they're unattainable both financially and attractive destination wise. The closest we can get is Lacazette-type of players and even he seems pretty unattainable. If we want Suarez-type quality at Liverpool again in the near future, it'll be a player on the verge of breaking through like Suarez was when we bought him. However, even those players, like Dolberg or Mbappe for example, already cost a shitload of money these days and can almost choose which club they'll join. It's not as easy as it once used to be to sign talents from the top bracket, especially for reasonable prices.
