Liverpool - 2017/18

Same thing you are smoking down there, but I think we are popping shrooms as well

We get some wicked Liberty Cap shrooms here in Norway, but I would love the kind of shrooms that leads to this:

As one of the Liverpool journos said, FSG think they know better than most people in football, and that has been their downfall consistently, from the moneyball nonsense and Comolli reign, transfer committee and Balotelli, to this VVD shite.

When will they learn?

Solanke looks more than good to lead their frontline next season. They don't need more signings ;) :p

Think there are at least three things about club's approach to transfer market that we fans can use to prove ourselves they've got no idea what they're doing:
1. They somehow think that there exists a "universal" (?) market value for a player, and that the selling club should respect this universal market value that FSG think is there
2. They somehow came to a conclusion that some random Sporting winger is a good replacement for Salah... but the solid replacement for the random Sporting lad is Douglas Costa. That to me suggests they don't really care about how good a player is, but how much he is, since clearly Costa's third choice because he'd cost more. If they actually based their transfer policy on how good a player is, Douglas Costa would've easily been the second choice.
3. They had the entire 2nd half of the season to prepare the deals for these players. The names that get mentioned now also got mentioned in January, hell, Salah was supposed to be replacement for Brandt, and Brandt was Klopp's target last summer too, if I'm not mistaken. We know which players Klopp wanted, the club knew which players he wants for over a year, and yet here we are in June and they're still haggling over Salah's price (Roma's evaluation of around 40 mil seems fair to me, as would to any fan of a normal top club), they haven't worked on any other targets, and based on how little work they've done, they probably never tried to sign anyone in winter, thus making us so weak we nearly fell out of top 4.

In conclusion, these people are not just inept, they're incompetent and most likely insane, not to mention massive liars. FSG are only one minor financial scandal away from being just as "great" of an owners as the two cowboys were.

When assessing targets you should also consider your relative pull. For Costa moving from Bayern to Liverpool will be seen as a massive step down, and like us you don't have the added attraction of a location like say Chelsea.

Look at the problems we have attracting players, and our pull is greater due to finances and standing in the modern game compared to Liverpool.

I've said it before many times but you won't go anywhere under FSG's owenership. They're penny pinchers.

Thing is, if Liverpool go another season without silverware, some fans will start turning on Klopp. Which is silly. He isn't perfect but give him better players and he will challenge I reckon.

I love FSG. They are hopefully here for the long haul

While that is true, I still think it all comes down to the money in the end, since being the step down, we'd be forced to offer him much higher wages than the Sporting winger.

Douglas Costa would be Coutinho II at Liverpool. Would be a good move for both parts I think. I certainly would not see him as stepping down in his career, but more like managing it in the right direction.

Doesn't matter. What's the point? Won't get him anyway.:rolleyes:

I've had enough of football
You wont get Naby Keita, but I dont see why Costa shouldnt be gettable. Klopp and Liverpool would clearly suit him. I m just excited to see how much Bayern are going to get here, as their negotiation results have mostly been underwhelming and disappointing.

The worst thing is, if you took the blue lines off of it, it'd be a really nice, simple shirt.

Watching them fail to get their targets is painfully embarrassing but I'd be lying if I said it doesn't bring a smile to my face.

All this talk about "Champions League football attracts big players to the club" is absolute rubbish. They can't even sign Van Dijk and Salah ffs.

I'd be just fed up if I was a Liverpool fan. Every summer they get linked with big players like Lacazette, Reus, Aubameyang etc and anyone can see that it's never gonna happen. They would quicker sign someone like Jamie Vardy than someone like Aubameyang.

They want Douglas Costa now? Wow.. The discrepansy between ability and ambition is borderline illusion of grandeur. They can go from one rejection and humilition to the next with no apparent lack of enthusiasm, I'd give them that. Fortitude.

Their owners just randomly throw in big names season after season to rile up the fans despite knowing they have no pull (with or without CL) and coupled with their manager worshipping culture, they just trully believe their own hype that LFC managers can somehow turn shite players into gems just because the have the so called "anfield experience".. It used to be funny, but even to a rival fan like me, its getting repetitive and tedious now. Go RAWK and read their manutd thread, you will be amazed the amound of condescending turd they are throwing at us. We regularly make marquee signings and won more than them in recent years despite having "shitcoat" and a "worst united team in recent history". Its like they compensating for some obvious holes in their logic. Surely, some of you lots feel the same?

I'm actually surprised Liverpool are failing to land their targets. Big club. Historically successful club. Good manager, who players seem to enjoy working with. Passionate fans. In the CL (more or less) and have the basis of a very good team. They need a few big signings and a few extra squad players but I'd be shocked if they don't sign at least one every good player in this window. Surely somebody will take a chance on them.

That's what my head says. My heart hopes they sign 5/6 mega flops and sell two or 3 of their best players.

IKR.. Shooting themselves at their foot seems to be their thing recently..
Rafas the "fact" rant..
The youth transfer ban..
Playing second team in competitions they really wanted to participate since forever (real madrid, remember guys)
Publicly backing a proven racist instead of banning him as a club? (suarez shirts anyone)?
Gerrards "don't let it slip now" and the whole funny thing that followed.
VVD fiasco now.

Liverpool is a gift that keeps giving.
Long may it last.

As a Liverpool supporter I have to say that nobody including me has any idea what is going to happen next season. It wouldn't surprise me if we won the league and Champions league and it wouldn't surprise me if we won nothing and finished 6th or 7th. Better results against the weaker teams could see us anywhere. I suppose thats the beauty of it all. On paper Man City with all their money and maybe still new players to get should win at least 2 trophies but football isn't played on paper is it.

Never change, liverpool fans.

I think you've misspelled the club you support mate, it must be Real Madrid surely.

Clearly, what he means is, it wouldn't surprise him, it'd be downright gobsmacking shocking.

Wanted to sign
Mbappe-
Kieta - Says he wants to stay
Mendy/ssegnon- No interest in joining them
Van Djik - Forced to apologize
Tadic- 13 million deal looks on, will they apologize again?
Salah- Being priced out for 40 million euros
Balde- Difference of 37 million euros

But you have Klopp!

When i am frustrated of us not getting deals done early, i think about their window and laugh.

At least get your facts straight if you come in here gloating. Sigh.

"I think about their window and laugh", there are two and a half months left ffs. Some of you are either really spoilt or play way too much FIFA.

The point was that it's unlikely you will get any of those players mentioned other than Salah and maybe Tadic (if he is actually a target).

Things can change quickly over a couple of weeks, and the poster I quoted was obviously just having a laugh by adding Mendy and Mbappe, as if we'd ever sign those players to begin with.

That doesn't necesarrily mean we'll have a bad transfer window. Football isn't played on paper as United fans should know by now. No one was really excited about the likes of Wijnaldum, Matip and even Mane before last season started and look how well they've done.

And who ended up excited about Wijnaldum and Matip in the end? Both has average seasons if you ask me. Mane was great when he played, I'll give you that - but the two others and not anywhere near good enough for a team chasing trophies. Wijnaldum shows up every fifth game (often with a goal to cover his lacking ability) and Matip is not the best reader of the game, prone to important lapses of concentration and poor positioning.

Wijnaldum is actually important to how we play due to him being very comfortable in receiving the ball under pressure and his ability to keep it moving. Similar that way to how Carrick has been for United albeit Carrick is more of a deep lying midfielder than Wijnaldum. He's been a good signing who slotted in perfectly.

Matip again was a good signing and I'm not sure what games of him you've watched if those are your impressions of him cos they're pretty much the opposite of reality.

End of the day fans shouldn't look at a signing and only think does he excite me. Far more important is how they actually fit into the team/Squad with regards to the managers ideas.

Next season is going to be a disaster for them I reckon. 3rd in the Group stage UCL, 8th in the league and 1 cup quarter final at best.
