Liverpool - 2017/18

Van Dijk looks like it could happen today.

Lacazette Giroud
Sanchez Xhaka Coquelin Walcott
Kolasinac Mustafi Koscielny Bellerin

Drop deep, work hard defensively, release Sanchez and Walcott with pace. Get setpieces and kill them in the air with Lacazette and Giroud. Though I admit I´m not sure that midfield could/would do a proper job for Wenger, so in a way it´s a matter of quality, too. But the back four should have been automatic. Even Klopp said in the post-match conference that he was expecting Kolasinac and Mustafi, then laughed at Arsenal.

That back four isn't exactly rocket science; play your best defenders in their preferred positions. I was pretty much in shock when I saw Kolasinac wasn't playing, along with Lacazette. I'm not sure what Wenger is thinking nowadays...

I know Van Dijk is a more important and necessary signing but the muppet in me wants Lemar announced asap
Heh, me too. Though realistically I just want to see reinforcements to the back. If it's VVD it's even better.

You've acted like ITK all summer. You've been here for a long time knowing that ITK are frowned upon here, stop it. All of your ITK's were saying that Keita would happen then all said it was dead, none of them had a clue that a deal like that would be agreed yesterday.

By the way, Firmino is turning into a really good player. He's an allround footballer who can pass, finish and dribble and he's got a very decent awareness of what's happening around him. He seemed to struggle in 15/16 but since last season he has really improved himself.

Yeah I really like Firmino, very good player.

15/16 was his first season in the league, he was (for Liverpool) a big money signing, loads was expected from him and he is still relatively young. I'd have been more surprised if he didn't struggle that year. See Pogba last year who didn't set the world alight but is already this season looking like the player that justifies his price tag.
Since then, Firming has looked much much better and is a perfect player for our system. Not sure he'd work as well in any other top six side but he does a great job for us and long may it continue

Tbh I want Coutinho shipped off if Barca pay up. Especially if we were to get Lemar in this window. The whole fake injury ploy has really got on my tits, missed our opening 5 games and now all healthy and chirpy training with the Brazil squad. Though I guess it would be smarter to sign Lemar this season keep hold off Coutinho and sell next year.

Btw, wijnaldum is such a strange player. Think he lacks a bit of confidence, otherwise he'd be a truly great midfielder.

You can see it in the difference between his performances at home vs away

Think people are getting overly excited due to how shit Arsenal are.

Liverpool under Klopp will always burn themselves out, he was whinging about fixtures last season, and this season they've got CL and there are more Xmas games than ever before.

But it's funny watching them build themselves up yet again for the fall (it's incredible how they do it every year!).

I still want Liverpool to sign a big expensive attacking player and then rub it in. Liverpool are pleased to announce the signing of Coutinho´s new teammate Lemar. :p

1) United fans were equally as excited when you beat an ever worse West Ham side. When this happens, it's always "the opposition was shit". Yes, Arsenal was shit, but we could also trot out the good old "we made them look bad" or "you can only beat what's in front of you" lines. Arsenal were bad and we were very good, hence the 4-0 scoreline.

2) No Liverpool fans on here are building themselves up for anything. We're three fecking games into the season.

Don't think anyone said we were winning the league. One injury to Pogba and we lose most of the creativity in midfield. One injury to Valencia and we are shorn of attacking FBs.

Likewise, I think most sane Liverpool fans are only cautiously optimistic. Both our clubs are still in transition to an extent. Best we can say is both of us have a good chance for top 4 as Arsenal and Spurs are struggling.

WTF are you on about. All I've said is that I've heard from two people that VVD was basically done ages ago and that is all I know and believe. That post you quoted was me going off twitter buzz.

kindly feck off.

It's weird how toothless he is against lesser sides when we need some more penetration. No end product on him in that regard.

He has just about everything in his locker though. Can't take the ball off him, always offering himself, making positive passes, knitting play, whilst doing a lot of under-the-radar dirty work. Plays a really disciplined game.

If our midfield becomes good enough to keep him out of the first XI, we'll be looking very good.

Seemed like I touched a raw nerve there.

The difference is we're a side who do win things, with a manager who actually serially wins, rather than serially competes. In the last 2 seasons we've won 3 proper trophies, yet we're humble and understand that this has been a rebuilding phase.

You do the same thing every fecking season, it's known as a meme throughout the entire footballing world, not just among Utd fans ('next season, la' etc), but the real kicker is that one decent result and the bad attitude starts coming out - thus ensuring your own mockery when it crashes (see the famous LFC boom-bust cycle meme).

Just look how @B20 is talking to other posters, it's like watching a kid marching around being bratty at their birthday party. And there's just no need for it.

Not understanding the hype myself, people saying they have the best attack in the league etc. Salah looks okay but has missed a lot of sitters already. Firmino world hard but is only a good player, not a world class striker. Mane is obviously fantastic.

Arsenal were fecking awful, like relegation fodder awful but they set up to beat Liverpool at their own game which is ridiculous. The other 2 games 3 all draw and scraping a 1-0 home win. Sounds like same as last season to me.

Do point out where I've said we're the bestest or anything to match what you're trying to claim.

So we only have a good chance of top 4? Based on what exactly? We have had the best start of any team in the league.

Chelsea are champions but are missing Costa, and they still have weaknesses highlighted by the Burnley loss.

City are in transition still, like us, but they have a poor defence. Their main striker in Aguero looks like a different player so far.

Spurs have not really strengthened too much and have also had a poor start. They may struggle with the Wembley effect this season.

We have as good a chance as any of the other top clubs to challenge for the league.

Lemar and VVD coming in with Coutinho going for £100 million+ would be a very good window for us.

We have to sign a CB more than anything else.

Its the same old Liverpool. They'll do well against big teams, loose points to relegation fodders. By February their squad will lose the bite and go on a losing streak. They'll just battle with Arsenal for 4th spot, thats it.

It's too early for all this imo. We should be judging everyone at Xmas.

to be fair, we were 2nd and in touching distance in december last year.

But yeah. it's very early doors. As city learned last season when they looked unstoppable at first.

Yeah good point. We were what 5 points from Chelsea at the end of December? February/March might be a better time to judge.

If we get one or two in before the window and Phil stays, I think we should be hitting 80+ this season. Probably ought to have last season, but wasn't to be. If we can breach 85, I think we will have done really really well.

Can't say where that puts us in comparison to our rivals.
