Liverpool - 2017/18

Disagree that the point is moot. Accept it.

Riiight because 13 days rest isn't enough... You really do talk out your rear sometimes don't you. If anything I'd rather only 13 days than 20 tbh as you could completely kill your rhythm taking 20 days off. Honestly, I'd be surprised if Zidane rested his players for a game 13 days before. Like it even matters anyway because 13 days is a long time and players will be very fresh regardless.

They're not winning the final. The way they defend - Real will put 5 past them.

Also, every team (except us) that I've seen them play against allow them space in their own half. It's fecking daft. Zidane is tactically flexible so I expect them not to do that.

And even if they do -- Ronaldo will save us all.

Rest or not, there is no chance you're getting past Real, the first team you have played throughout the entire competition with genuine European pedigree.

Yep, just as apparently there was no chance that Liverpool would get past Man City according to many on here, probably including yourself. I would suggest that Real Madrid are probably favourites but with Liverpool's attack and their defence then there really isn't much in it.

Ronaldo, undisputed King of European football, greatest footballer of the modern era, hero to United and Real fans alike, says hi.

50/50. I expect Liverpool to have more fans too, nightmare.

Don’t think that is tru city play is the perfect fool for Liverpool tactics many said it on here

How in god's name is a team with Lovren as a CB in the CL final. I blame Barca for completely imploding away to Roma.

Djimi Traore in 2005 was a worse player I suspect, but yes I agree. Suspect Liverpool will be looking to replace him in the summer.

Madrid aren’t the Madrid team of last year, or the year before that. A very good team of course, and capable of winning the Champions League, but there’s nothing I saw last night to be frightened of. Ronaldo may say hi, but he didn’t turn up for the Semi final, and to Ronaldo and Madrid, the team that scored 40 goals in the competition would also say hi, as would Salah. There’s a lot to fear from both angles I would say.

Andy Robertson what an absolute bargain of a purchase!!!

He really is to be honest. Not a fancy player but he does the basics so much better than Moreno and looks more composed under pressure.

Absolute fecking bargain. Salah has overshadowed what a fantastic signing he had been. Goals don't go in from his end, it's always the other side (TAA/Gomez/Lovren).

Fecking scousers are even infiltrating my downloading habit.

Has thanked: 5 times

I'll leave the next one until after the CL final. Fate and all that...

Their record against big 6 away from home.

played 5
Win: 0
Draw: 1
Loss: 4
Goals scored: 5
Goals conceded: 15

That's very poor record.

If Liverpool wins the CL that must be one of the biggest flukes in the tournament's entire history, together with their 2005 triumph and that Chelsea one in 2012. Take those 3 attackers up front and everything else is very underwhelming.

Could argue the same about Real perhaps this season though. Still a great achievement to win the CL even if you are lucky. Should have gone out against Roma though! :D

Real had probably the toughest route to finals than any team in recent past.

Just not true. They won the league last season, they won the CL last season... they are a magnificent team with proven winners. Motivation has probably been their problem donestically after a poor start to the season, which is only natural when you think about it. Still, when it really matters, they have beaten Bayern, PSG and Juventus. Luck? Maybe, but when you’re leading a match against Bayern you will always be under assault. If Bayern was leading, they would be under siege from Real until the final whistle was blown.

They did? Apoel, Dortmund and Spurs was hardly a terrifying group despite the hype. And Spurs looked the best team! PSG were shit, Juve gave them a good run but Real probably just shaded it, and they were poor against Bayern and still went through. Biggest names I guess, but not actually amazing opposition and they only just sneaked through in many games.

Roma on the other hand smashed Barca at home, they were a very good team, just tactically clueless against Salah for some reason. And Liverpool absolutely smashed City over 2 legs, so they're due some credit even if their fixtures before that were a bit of a walk in the park (in theory).

They'd both have to be considered lucky to be in the final IMO but nonetheless it's still a great achievement.

Yes, they had the toughest route. They had the strongest group than any in CL this season.

From the teams qualified to next rounds, they played the strongest opponent in round of 16, they played the strongest opponent in QFs too (on par with Roma who played Barca) and they also played strongest opponent in Bayern. They played champions of France, Germany and Italy. In the group the played teams that are 3rd in PL and Bundesliga. That's a tough road and any team that beats all these teams to make it to finals deserves it, nothing to with luck.

Madrid have superb game management.

If rumours are true we're looking for serious strengthening this summer. Yet again we find ourselves out of cups early (probably a blessing in disguise yet again, don't want a repeat though!) and struggling to bring anyone off the bench at key moments. We must have the crappiest bench in the top 8.

Would be nice if our bench next season contained Fekir or Ox, Salah or Dembele, Mane or Firmino, Gomez and Matip. And not fecking Morono, Ings and Solanke.

One surprise this season is that our first team at least has kept relatively injury free. We have been lucky, very lucky, in that regards. Won't be this lucky next season.

They already have Keita joining the squad and strong rumours that Fekir is almost done, that’s already 2 decent players added to the side if the latter goes through.

I have a feeling Liverpool will have a strong summer.

Yep. Our bench is absolutely atrocious, particularly when we suffer from a few injuries, like now. The fact that it will probably look something like this in the CL final is terrifying: Mignolet, Moreno, Klavan, Lallana, Ings, Solanke. We are in dire need of one or two decent forwards, so we don't have to play the usual suspects every minute. Same goes for the defense.

It was also clear as day yesterday that our players were completely knackered.

You must be joking ?!

I was finding Liverpool reasonably tough to dislike on an individual basis, but the signing of van Dijk has certainly helped a lot with that. What an absolute weapon. Gonna be made captain at some stage isn't he? - :(

Also, Trent Alexander-Arsehole, I'm going right off him for some reason too.

Anyone else that I should be monitoring?

He is clearly

You describe a group consisted of Spurs, Dortmund and Apoel as hardly terrifying, than what can be said about a group consisted of Sevilla, Maribor and Spartak Moscow? Liverpool finished second in that group and got Porto, while Real played the hugely hyped PSG who are a very good team regardless, much better than Porto anyway. Then they played a very naive City team who basically shat themselves and the mighty Roma gave them the biggest test on the route to the final, almost getting it to extra time. Real in the meanwhile played Juventus and Bayern. Not even close or comparable their paths to the final in my opinion.

We finished top in our CL group.

Super player and capable of changing the game in an instant, however, few can argue that he is a superior talent to Messi. And his status as hero among some counts for nothing to millions more.
The problem with playing Madrid is that they are dangerous in so many areas whilst our front 3 must score if we are to win as we dont otherwise carry a threat. Still think that we will do it though!!

That's very poor record.

The draw was away to Arsenal as well. They scored 3 and conceded 3. They have managed 2 goals against the rest and one of those was the Bailly own goal. World class attack.
