Liverpool - 2017/18

Liverpool owners are ready to spend to land the Premier League title, says manager Jurgen Klopp ahead of Manchester United clash

    • Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool will not flinch when it comes to spending big
    • Liverpool are ready to go head-to-head with Man Utd for Napoli star Jorginho

Only slightly disappointing thing was him saying "If you always change four or five positions, it’s wrong. You don't make the team better." when personally I think we need to upgrade 4 starting positions (including Keita). A GK, RCB, #6 and then Keita as a #8. I expect him to make 3 signings this summer a GK, #6 and young winger but would be lying if I said I wasn't really hoping for a new RCB in the form of Alderweireld to partner Van Dijk. Dream summer for me is Alisson, Alderweireld, Jorginho and Pulisic/Bailey.

I'm always skeptical when I read such things. Usually the first question that pops up in my head is, 'Great. Who's leaving now?'

But I guess 2 years of CL, and we may just have some cash to spend...

From what I've seen of Alisson, I don't think he's a huge step up. For me he's not in the same league as DDG or Oblak.

You might get Alisson but you can forget getting the Tobby,Jorginho and Pulisic

You'd think he'd already have a perm...

I don’t doubt you had a good reason, but I have to say I’ll miss him.

Apart from the minor problem of his being a Liverpool supporter I thought he was a decent poster. His insights into living in China were really interesting.

The problem wasn't him being a Pool fan, we welcome rival supporters. 8 separate warnings with 7 of them in the last 12 months rarely ends well.

People said the same about Van Dijk and Keita, I think you might be slightly underestimating Liverpools pull currently under Klopp

Who said the same about Van Dijk? Most people who commented on that transfer were commenting on how they felt Liverpool had way overspent, not that he was at a higher level than Liverpool?

If Toby is moving, with all due respect, I don't know why he'd be moving to Liverpool. He'll be moving for guaranteed trophies and more money. Other clubs can guarantee both more trophies and more money.

All the hype recently you just know United are going to comfortably beat them today. Its inevitable

I think all the hype comes from the moran pundits who like to salivate in order to try to appear insightful. As the album says; Don’t believe the Hype.
Very tough game for both sides and could go either way. We dont normally get much in OT, and may not today either, but the fact that I think we have a chance of a result is good and shows the progress Klopp is making.
For Liverpool’s stage of developmemt, a top 4 finish is still the priority. Anything more will be a bonus.

I don't think the CL money is the be all & end all it used to be for PL clubs. The top clubs now draw in ridiculous amounts of cash from sponsorship deals, corporate stuff etc. & that's not even taking into account how much they get from TV rights. Not forgetting also the extra revenue we're now getting from the stadium expansion with nearly an extra 10,000 people attending our home games. We're still not top tier when it comes to signing certain players, but we can still compete financially for most of the good ones out there.

Pretty much everyone said he wouldn't come to us last summer when it was reported Man City and Chelsea were in for him...
You're right about Alderweireld though I doubt he would come to Liverpool but we definitely can match his wage demands unless he is asking for like £250-300k/w... VVD is on £180K/w atm without bonuses for example, we matched Citys offer

Thanks for letting me know.

I won't be shedding any tears at him being gone that's for sure.

Course :') I'm sure they're all so much more likely to go to United if that's the case then?:') Why don't you just take your blinkers off for once and stop being so biased. I'd never say United should forget certain players because in reality I have no clue on whether they'd want to go or not. Similar things were said for Van Dijk and Keita last year, you're clearly underestimating the appeal of our squad and Klopp which is only ever improving each year.

If we can get top 4 and get to the later stages of the UCL (ie semi's) then I see absolutely no reason why they wouldn't want to come. Jorginho is apparently our priority #6 signing and only others team I know who're interested in him are United and Arsenal, well lets be honest who's a through ball playing CM going to want to play with: Salah, Firmino and Mane or Lukaku... tough one that. And what style is a through ball playing CM going to want to play in: attacking, high energy or defensive, low energy... again tough one that :')

Klopp's been interested and submitted a few bids for Pulisic over the last 2 summers to which Dortmund have always rejected so if we actually submit a bid matching what they want who knows if he would want to come to Liverpool. I realise he's a United fan but De Bruyne is a Liverpool fan, doesn't really mean much.

I'll admit Alderweireld is the most unlikely of the three but if he wants "guaranteed trophies" then he needs to be looking at City, PSG, Bayern, Barcelona and Real because no one else offers them. He wants 150k a week, we'd happily match Van Dijk wages of 180k a week I bet. 2 big issues are 1) Klopp isn't even looking at a CB so doubt we'll even go in for him and 2) whether he actually believes we'll be able to provide trophies next season assuming Klopp is interested in him. Someone like him next to Van Dijk would certainly be a large stepping stone in the direction of trophies though, that I'm confident of.

Anyway I'll save this comment and when it's the summer and we sign one or two of the three I'll happily remind you of it. I'm all cool with casual debate but it'd be nice to have it without bias for a change (but I should know better on a United forum) and at least give some valid reasons, instead of saying we can forget them with no reason at all.

You need to watch a little more of him then as you can't have seen much if you don't realise how big of a step up he is. His distribution is a similar level to Ederson which is a big step up in itself but even so his collection from corners is better than Karius, less prone to punching. His shot stopping certainly from close range is superior to Karius'. He's a far better goalkeeper, you just need to watch more of him. Watch his performances vs Napoli and vs Shaktar and you'll see. He's not in the same league as those two obviously, no one is bar maybe Neuer and Ter Stegan. He's in the class below with potential to be world class if he keeps his current form consistent.

Did they? Not sure about that. Think everyone just said you overspent. There's a difference.
Yeah they said we overspent after we bought him but when we were initially linked with him in the summer (before the news broke that he chose us), lots of people were saying we have no chance with City and Chelsea in for him

Credit where it is due; United been very good first half. Better in all areas of the park. We must get the next goal.

We need to learn from games like this. This is why United win things and we don’t. Everyone blasts Mourinho for occasionally playing defensively but if we had anything near the same tactical know-how that he does, we’d probably have a Europa League trophy in the cabinet and maybe we wouldn’t be 2-0 down right now.

Lovren needs to be binned though.

Lol- just relax. Did I ever say we will get it ?
If Toby is in the market every top team would be in for him including Real and Barca.

Pulisic is united bound. He is a united fan and we are ready to match /outbid any amount that might come. Unless he prefers Real above us obviously .

And these are facts and not some biased comments . You should come out of your imagination world that you can buy any player you want like in FIFA, if you have some money. Real football doesnt work like that.

I really enjoyed all the high octane attacking from Liverpool. At least they can go back home satisfied and pleased. Chat shit get banged!

Did they even have a decent chance the whole game? VVD header and maybe the Salah shot at the end for which he should have done better.

Biggest Salah's contribution was his clearance in the last min.

After the nauseating shite spouted by Pool fans on here this week this was so sweet
Salah pocketed by Ashley fecking Young my life has peaked

Can we unban Rafeteria for a couple of days? I want to see him twisting this around as a positive for Liverpool.

Chat shit get banged.

@Damien new thread title?

Please
It was incredible how many quotes from their team came out in the lead up all bragging about their football!

They still play like the naïve idealists they have been since Klopp turned up.

Yeah they'll blow teams away if they're given space in the final third, but if you deny them that they don't seem to have any answer whatsoever.
