Liverpool 2016/17 - Performance and chat thread.

They are looking very good so far and with no CL/EL I think they will most definitely finish in the top 4 if they keep it up (bar any serious injuries). We need to really step it up if we want to come away with any points from Anfield in a few weeks.

True but United can always beat us 1 - 0 by playing shite.

Oh feck.

Just remembered it's Mourinhio.

Shit ... bollocks and feck.

Reckon they'll challenge until AFCON rolls up. Mane's crucial to their attack, and provides them with that extra bit of pace and trickery that they'll sorely miss while he's gone.

I really love the way youse of all gone to .... have you seen their fixtures at the start of the season ? They'll be in the relegation zone our kid . To ... a they'll miss Sane.. deffo top three or four our kid.

:D

Listen. My feet are on the earth but any of the top teams like City , Spurs , Arsenal , Chelsea and Everton would be chuffed with 16 points so far.

Just heard Lovren got some kick and feels pain in his back. Doubtful for Croatia's 2 games.

Obviously not, I felt it after they got 7 points away to Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs. Can't give a bit of praise to Liverpool without people getting touchy. They have a great manager and have no Europe, they play like everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet.

Not getting touchy, it's just now it read it, given that Swansea at the minute showdown be an easy 3. Also beaten by Burnley and think Liverpool have those results in them all season long.

City are nothing special defensively and they are favourites(rightly so too)
Yes but City also have better players going forward.
I've made quite a bit of money with Liverpool as well, BTTS is a cert with them these days so it's not as if I'm complaining.
They have to score two goals just to win a game, that's a massive disadvantage when battling for the title.

I did the same bet today so don't disagree. Their record against big teams with Klopp makes them contenders though imo.

Some United fans denial that Liverpool are actually a good side is silly. People think they are Rodgers in his last full season Liverpool, unfortunately that is not the case.
I think nobody is denying they're good. Personally I think it's silly to call them a title contender right now though.

I absolute hate Liverpool with a passion but I agree with some of the Liverpool fans who are on Redcafe (and our very good posters too) but I just feel the squad depth will be their achilles heal and from watching Liverpool this season, it seems to be that 50% of their attack relies on Mane.

I think they will comfortably make top four this season under Klopp but I still fancy us to upset them in two weeks time ;)

Mane is tied with Lallana for 3rd best attacker so far.

Firmino and Coutinho are the ones running the show.

he's been good though. And definitely added a new dimension.

Even back in May I'd wanted them to win that final vs Sevilla so they had some distraction and even more so now. Our major hope for Pool not winning the title is Pep. That's pretty sad.

Their GD is three better than ours, and if we win tomorrow, they'll be one point ahead of us. This will be after having played seven games a piece. A bit early to be talking of titles.

The biggest annoyance is how quickly Klopp dealt with Moreno this season. Was hoping he would be blind to him and keep playing him.

That's Rodgers you're thinking of. Brendan would be a top manager if he didn't have :wenger: sown into his face. I honestly didn't think Klopp would drop Moreno so soon either, happy to be proven wrong.

If they could defend they would be contenders.

They're scoring for fun but they're conceding far too many goals....no clean sheets so far. Coutinho and Firmino won't stay in form all season.

I watched them play today for the whole game and was quite impressed at the quality of their play, especially fast pass and move in the attacking third where Coutinho looked like he has some pizzazz.

However, I suspect they are all about form, i.e.: they have it right now and so are doing well .... I can see them losing 3 in a row when the midas touch runs out inmate November and then they'll struggle to get back in. Still think they will finish outside top 4.

Or they could be this season's Leicester!

Think they will ultimately fall short of the title due to the lacking some quality that City and others have, and also due to their defensive frailties. Klopp's system is working very well though. Will finish inside the top 4 IMO.

Their good form is down to good coaching and great fitness levels. In other words, they would lose form only if they got tired or have injuries to 2-3 players. Otherwise, the intensity with wich they play will bring them success in most games.

Proper jammy vs. a poor Swansea team yesterday. Central defence back to looking dodgy.

Pass the ball around very nicely though & variety of ways they can break down defences & score. Flexibility of front 6 now looks a big asset, interchangeable selections for Klopp to make without altering how they play.

Klopp looks a bit like the Incredible Hulk being filmed in b/w, innit?

(not just me that has spotted this)

Still waiting for Sturridge and Can to step into gear. On form, they should be starting.

Also, for all the praise Mane is getting, Arsenal aside, he's still playing a bit within himself.

I don't really think we'll go on a goalless run. We have a lot of strings to play on. I am more inclined to think we might revert to the form of last season - throwing leads away.

The way to beat us has been exposed by Swansea. Win a set piece around our goal and attack it. Or crosses from wide areas where you overrun in the penalty area.

The first option is relatively easy. Tell Rashford to speed it down to the corner flag and win a corner off the covering Lovren.

The second requires committing Pogba, Fellaini and Ibra to almost be parked in our box with Mata knocking in the crosses from wide. Don't get caught on the break though as Firmino and Coutinho will be parked there waiting for the breakaway.
