Now we have the 16-17 RAWK thread, it's time the more serious thread on our favourite rivals was started to avoid spill-over and chat in the former.

They've made a few signings this summer so far, mainly in youth. Would predict the below for their starting line-up. Not awful but definitely lacking something, especially in centre mid. Moreno had a few shockers last year so may not be a starter.

Karius/Mig?

Clyne Lovren Sakho Moreno?

Henderson Can

Mane -?(could go either way)?- Firmino Coutinho

Studge

They'll do well I reckon. No European football, Klopp starting fresh with a pre-season, some good players in Firmino, Coutinho, Mane, Sturridge, if it clicks that could be a strong offense. Don't know how good Karius is.

Reckon they'll have a good run in either of the cups, and finish somewhere between 4th and 6th.

Klopp's biggest moan last season was lack of training hours.

With no europe, he will have his hours. Will be interesting to see how it will affect us.

Can't see Klopp working miracles with that defence, any rumoured signings?

New left back and CM needed for them. Also another striker if Sturridge is still a pussy.

Origi and Ings are decent enough alternatives when we only play one up front. Mane and Firmino can play there in a pinch.

leftback is definitely needed. If we get one, I will declare it a good summer.

CM is icing on top. We have decent options allround, but not stardust. If we get someone, it needs to be someone special. Not an easy feat.

Henderson is so shit though. He needs replacing with somebody who can run with the ball.

Depends. If he can get back to his 13/14 level, he's a good player. Good enough for now at any rate.

He's been poor since his injury though. And fears that he will not fully recover.

3 years a go. He is really poor. You need a proper creative player there who can dictate the play and play from deep.

Henderson has never been that type of player. He's always been more box to box.

2 years ago, mind. And he was decent enough in rodgers' last full season, all things considered. Better than most of his teammates at any rate.

They've got quite a good attack. Sturridge, Countinho, Firmino, Origi and Mane is a nice set of attackers capable of beating defenders and providing goal threat. The question for them is whether the defence and midfield can consistently produce the goods, and of course Sturridge's fitness.

Bottom line, if you want top 4 you need a new midfielder.

I think the club are aware of that. We've been linked with a spate of midfielders for some time now. From my memory we've been linked with Mkhitaryan, Willian, Teixeira, and now we're also going after Dahoud and Zielinski. We also chased Konoplyanka and Yarmolenko, though those were wingers, I believe.

In terms of talent in the squad, they should finish 5th/6th at best.

Let's see if they can put together a run or two in the first half of the season.

Agree. I'm pretty concerned about Sturridge though, even for England this summer he looked so slow. Hopefully he'll regain some pace after a rest in the summer, but his inability to get off the mark is not good.

Karius
Clyne Matip Lovren New LB
Can New DM
Mane Coutinho Firmino
Sturridge

On paper that's a decent starting 11 if Klopp brings in a good LB and DM. Liverpool really need to get rid of many from the squad, have over 30 players.

Barring Sturridge none of them are capable of consistently producing throughout the season, all have proved to be Hit and Miss, so counting on them to deliver would be unwise. Sturridge seems to be made of glass. They are not going to finish any place higher than 6th.

We have signed one already, tbf. I don't think anyone knows how much Grujic will feature, but I do think Klopp sees him as regularly involved with the first team.

Also, he's massive. Whoever heard of a 10 who was 193cm? I like that he's played both there and as a defensive midfielder. He could be something.

We need a CM to partner Can. Relying on the likes of Henderson, Milner and Lallana as starters will see us no higher than 6th. If we can sign Dahoud and a left back (Hector?) then I'll be satisfied with the summer.

Karius
Clyne Matip Lovren Hector
Can Dahoud
Mane Firmino Coutinho
Sturridge

That starting side looks decent enough on paper. Origi, Ings, Milner, Henderson, Lallana, Gomez, Sakho, Moreno and Mignolet are all fine as back ups but shouldn't be starting every week for me.

I don't see it in Can, i'd be happy if he was seen as a key player by Klopp.

They'll finish midtable again. They don't have any top class players in that team.

Can wasn't that good until the cup final against City but since then his form has picked up loads. He had a couple of poor games to finish the season against Chelsea and Seville but every performance prior to that has been very good. He's still a bit clueless in the final third and could do with working on his decision making when on the ball, but there's a good player there if he continues as he has been since March. For me he's one of the first names on the team sheet at the moment.

I'm not a fan of Henderson though. I think he's very limited and tried to do things that are beyond his capabilities. His best form for us came as an attacking midfielder in a three man midfield but he's pretty poor in a two man midfield.

I'm sorry, but Can is a bang average midfielder. I hope Klopp relies on him because it's going to end up in disappointment.

I'm hoping we don't sign too many more players tbh. A LB is a must, a more creative CM and a striker to replace Benteke if he goes. The reason being, that wholesale changes just doesn't seem to work for us - we're a work in progress and its better to accept a measured approach and that it will take a few windows before Klopp can really shape the team.

He has already shown that he can get more out of players than BR could - if that continues this season, along with Matip, Mane etc, and alot less fixtures I think we will progress well from last year (couldn't do much worse in the league!). Will it be enough to break into the top 4? I'm not sure as I expect Utd, City and Chelsea to improve massively from last season - as it stands now I would say anywhere from 4th to 6th.

As for outgoings Joe Allen's price tag must be going up every day - might recoup most of what we paid for him. Markovic might pull in a few quid if he doesn't impress Klopp in pre-season and Balotelli will bring in enough to get a new set of bibs for training.

i'd prefer it if we kept Allen and sold Henderson and Lucas personally. Allen has shown more under Klopp than Henderson has.

Liverpool don't really have a bad team countino, firmino, Lallana, origi, mane, Sturrige is more than capable. The lack of matches should help fitness and injuries wise, theres no consistency though all have good Matches but all have bad matches

I think they'll probably be 4th-7th though

Thats true - but Henderson was struggling with injury last season. I actually don't see any of them being a starter once Klopp starts to shape his squad. One of them might get a decent amount of games this coming season (more if there are injuries) but eventually I see Can plus a new CM.

After his performances at CB I wouldn't be averse to keeping hold of Lucas for one more season - purely for back up, because he's proven his versatility.

I dislike Can a lot but he is good (grimly effective) in straight lines & likely to be Big Chief Cock-knocker if some mad team buys Skrtel.

How does this super-press work when your front 4 is Studge, Phil, Firmino & Mane - just screams not doing it on cold midweek evenings away from home. But it does have some ability contained therein. Probably 3 of them & someone more unsung, bit more hardworking, Lallana for instance...

Full backs are OK once Flanno is back in the groove isn't it?

They're in a funny place though aren't they, only proper top quality players are definitely better than what they have already. Excepft for GK (done) & defence strengthened (done).

I think they'll be strong at home & inconsistent away. Should be more resilient though.

Sadly that is very true - we look fantastic at times and then rubbish the next week.
