Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

Oliver is generally one of the best referees. Up there with Clatts as the best.

Fair enough, hope he's good tonight. Just to add...I don't think any referee is biased, I just think their performances have been abysmal over at least the past few seasons, possibly longer.

Cheers. Can't remember what I think of him so I'll just assume he's awful too and hope that I'm pleasantly surprised.

Agree with Barney (it happens!), Oliver is excellent, a really good young referee. My favourite in the PL with Clattenburg.

I think we'll end up losing the tie. It'll be another one of those annoying heroic defeats. We battered them despite the referee last match and I think we'll perform well again tonight, but go out to some dodgy goal.

Yeah. Felt you needed to win last week to have a real chance. You deserved to win as well. Courtois' save from Lallana was superb and Gerrard had a golden chance also.

Looking forward to it though, hopefully it's as good as the first leg. Plenty of needle. Costa v Henderson, Costa v Skrtel.... Costa vs your whole team actually.

I think we do have a real chance!

Chelsea have hit a poor patch. Not a bad time to play them although I still make them favourites.

You should watch a Chelsea home game with Martin Atkinson in charge.

I won't get my hopes up too high for tonight because Chelsea (almost) always gets the right result at the Bridge. But I'm pretty confident we'll see a good game with Liverpool at least equally strong. Is Sturridge on the bench?

Tony Barrett says no.

That's actually disappointing, I was looking forward to seeing the return of Pele in such a big match after all this time.

I've no idea what to expect tonight - surely Chelsea will react after the embarrassment on Saturday, but at the same time Liverpool's current style of play looked to get to Chelsea in the first semi after they brushed it off pretty easily last season.

Getting knocked out of both cups in a week would be shameful. I think if we feck up tonight, Jose is likely to ritually disembowl the worst player in the centre circle after the match.

Didn't deserve to go out. Better team over the 210 minutes. Christ, we need to work on our finishing though. Proud of the efforts of the team. Get rid of Balotelli and Lambert. Disgraceful performances.

I would do almost anything to have Gerrard score the winner at Stamford Bridge that denies those fecking cnuts the league.

1 goal in 300 minutes. What's the point of dribbling like Sterling and Coutinho if you can't finish?

Also Markovic, Sakho, Can and Moreno decent put overrated.

I'll be a happy man if Lambert and Balotelli don't play another minute for us. Both abysmal.

How did you go from rating Markovic highly to calling him overrated in the space of a couple of days? All of those players performed admirably over both ties. The only thing you can fault our players with is not finishing the chances they created.

Balotelli will get flack for the goal, but that's just a poor overall set-up rather then being solely his fault. Why is there such a big gap behind him? For Zonal Marking, that is ridiculous.

Wish Rodgers would stop the pally act with Mourinho and Chelsea, he's not a youth coach there any more but still refuses to speak up against them.

So do I. Nothing disgusted me more though than seeing Lucas and co. shake hands with Costa at the final whistle.

Yeah that was annoying too. Surprising lack of anger at the end of that match.

I rate his workrate and role within the team highly, but the Liverpool fans who think he's a great attacker as well overrate him massively.

They're friends and have been for years. It would be easy for him to score brownie points with the Liverpool fans by pretending he dislikes Jose, kudos to him for not doing that.

He doesn't have to dislike him, he has to defend the team. He was far too soft on Costa especially.

Mourinho doesn't let friendship stop him from criticising Liverpool...

Apparently Louis van Gaal fell out with Mourinho for a while, I can see it happening again assuming Louis stays in the job and challenges for the title at some point.

Rodgers clearly has potential as a coach, he should act like a rival not friend, use that rivalry to drive himself and his team, there will be plenty of time for friendships once Mourinho becomes England manager or whatever he wants to do in 10 years time.

Look at what happened to these friends:

There is a time for friendship and then there is a time for rivalry, it's just life, I don't like Rodgers because he is Liverpool's manager and sometimes says some weird things and that celebration he does, that said he seems like a nice guy and a United fan really shouldn't think that of him. I hear too much politeness from him, even with Diego Costa's stamp, he was being nice abut it whereas Mourinho was clearly trying to stop himself from saying something that would get him banned but he wanted to come out with it.

This is what it should be "Stamps have no place in football, I think not just the incident but Costa's tendency to stamp on the legs of his opponents needs to be reviewed and action taken before a promising young talent's legs are broken, these things can ruin careers, physically players might recover but you cannot ignore the psychological impact these severe injuries have. It's the action not of a football player, no (shake his head here) but that of an animal"

I remember Ferguson accusing his opponent of attempted murder not long ago.

That said when you say Scholes is the best player in the premier league's history, there's no going back!

Rodgers does comes across as Mourinho's bitch, for me. Definitely needs to put previous allegiance aside.

Would also be nice if for once, he beats him the next time he plays him.

Liverpool will be playing at least 12 games more than last season this time. Even if we add further 4-5 games to it, 60 games is OK over the course of season. The problem to me is, the rotation policy of Rodgers seems a bit flawed. Players seem to play a lot in certain period and few others get very few game minutes in that period and then it changes with different lot playing more. This is just a feeling I got thinking about their season so far, don't know actual stats.

Also, their fixture congestion has come up with wrong time if league fixtures are considered. They have tough games till end of March from now and it is clashing with matches from other competitions. So rotation strategy and prioritizing will be key. Interesting period ahead for them.

You could say a similar thing about Hazard.
I've been actually impressed by Can because it's a new position for him and he is doing very well if you are aware of that.
He made it very difficult for Hazard, but still is composed and can offer something offensively. If he continues this way you'll have a lot of fun with him.

I think footballers can put the happenings on the pitch in perspective. Once the game is over all the eomotions cool down and they probably both realize that there wasn't much in it.

well, i didnt see the first leg, but from what i gather you were the better team. However, i did see last night and at no point were you the better team.

However, watching last night i'd say the gap in quality between the two teams was not respective of a team in first place in PL vs a team in 6th/7th (cant remember where you are), not by a long way.

i said this a while ago, we cant discount liverpool for top 4. After the media get bored of slati g them for being shit compared to last year, they will quietly get their act together, not play particularly well but will start winning games regularly. They have done this and are now looking more and more confident, lass retarded at the back but their midfield set up seems to be working again.

looking at how both liv and chel pressed and the speed of play they both had last night i am truly not looking forward to the league games at anfield and stamford bridge

Liverpool played well again. Enjoyable game, lots of needle with Costa. But overall if you don't take your chances, what do you expect against a team like Chelsea? Fine margins over the two legs, ultimately came down to Can giving a stupid penalty away in the first leg.

For me in the second half and extra time it was Gerrard who stood out for me for the wrong reasons. For him, it was obviously gonna be all about him, every time he got the chance he shot when a pass was the best option and when he passed it was always the harder option, a long 50 yarder or an impossible through ball. They should improve when he moves on, I'm sure about that, Emre Can could be a solution in that area in the long run.

I don't think it's fair to say that about Can. It was a really poor mistake (firstly letting Cesc past him, then fouling for the penalty) but that wasn't why we went out. We dominated the whole tie apart from the second 45 minutes last night, but we went out because we didn't take our chances.
