Liverpool 2014/15 | WARNING: Contains strong amounts of Scouse nonsense

Rodgers said on talksport this morning that Sturridge will be out for one or two weeks. Apparently Allen is questionable as well (he seems to get injured every time he finds form).

Yeah forgot to say about Allen, Rodgers said he needs to be assessed...didn't sound too serious though.

The up to 3 weeks quote is from Rodgers too by the way. Maybe he's had another update that isn't as promising or maybe it's up to 3 weeks but could be back sooner...

Why is Flanagan injured??

Can't actually remember what the original injury was but he's missed the whole season so far because of it. Close to fitness now though apparently, just not close enough for the Villa game.

Harsh on Lambert. If you're not going to start him against the likes of Villa at Anfield then when does he get his game?
Not harsh for me. He's back up for Mario. I don't think you'd play two target men up top unless its the last few minutes and you're chasing a game.

How long is Sturridge out for. He'll be a loss. The great thing for Liverpool last year was that in the times that either Sturridge or Suarez were out, the other really stepped up. You'll need Balotelli to step up if he's out for long. Although, In Sterling and Coutinho, they do have players to score and create from that little bit deeper.

Lot of sympathy for Liverpool, poxy internationals forking up your season. Just fork off.

Up to 3 weeks according to Rodgers. Should be fine without him but we'll see.

Aye, always more frustrating when players are injured on international duty. Seems to be more common too. Anyone other than Ramsey injured for Arsenal?

Lallana must be due back soon surely? He's been out for a while. Allen being injured is an interesting one. Who replaces him? Lucas and Gerrard don't look very good together, particularly as they get tired. Both are slow and immobile. Would Coutinho go into a 3 man CM again? And Lallana/Markovic on the left with Sterling on the right and Balotelli central? In a 4-3-3. Although Sterling looks pretty good at the tip of a diamond. It'll be interesting to see how Liverpool go with a few injuries now.

Lallana is back now, he's available for the Villa game, probably as a starter too given the injury problems.

Sturridge, Skrtel, Johnson, Can, Flanno and Allen all ruled out for Villa.

Vlaar, Benteke, Klozak are expected to be missing for Villa (Vlaar only one who may/may not be back). For their last match their team was :-

Guzan, Vlaar, Senderos, Hutton, Cissokho, Delph, Westwood, Richardson, N’Zogbia, Weimann, Agbonlahor.
Subs: Given, Baker, Bacuna, Cole, Bent, Sanchez, Grealish

Okore was missing from the squad though will probably return for this match but not displace Senderos.

For me :

................................... Ming

Manquillo ........ Lovren ..... Sakho .......... Moreno

............................... Gerrard

............. Henderson ...................Lallana

Markovic ............................................... Sterling

..................................Balotelli

Win 3-1

Bench : Jones, Enrique, Toure, Lucas, Coutinho, Lambert & either Suso or Borini.

I imagine we'll go 4-3-3. The back 7 I think will pick themselves (Mignolet, Manquilo, Sakho, Lovren, Moreno, Gerrard, Henderson), as will Sterling and Balotelli.

One of Lallana and Coutinho joins Henderson and Gerrard in midfield. The other one competes with Markovic for the left wing slot.

Vlaar is a pretty big out for Villa, especially with Benteke still out. As long as Liverpool don't have a flat day I think they'll win comfortably.

@Rafateria, has Allen actually been ruled out? Seen a few journalists saying so but Rodgers never ruled him out in his press conference, just said he needed to be assessed.

I saw 'Doubtful' on one of the twitter feeds earlier but Physioroom has him at 'Late Fitness Test'. I'd be surprised if he is not training yet and I don't remember seeing him in the training pics .. but I could be wrong !

Yeah that makes sense. Haven't seen any training pics but from the way Rodgers talked yesterday he could have possibly made it onto the bench at least.

My favourite bit from Liverpool this week was Rodgers' assertion that fast players like Sturridge and Sterling need 2 days' rest after every game, while others only need one.

So, given there's so much talk about the typical Saturday - Wednesday - Saturday schedule Liverpool are now facing while in the CL, I calculate that Sturridge and Sterling only train on Tuesdays. Not bad. I wonder if the RAWK mathematicians would be so good as to re-calculate their wages based on a 3-day working week?

Johnson not fit for the Villa game, that must be a relief - for Liverpool :D

If Lallana is fit enough I expect this to be the formation

Mignolet

Manquillo Lovren Sakho Moreno

Gerrard

Henderson......Coutinho

Lallana.............................Sterling

Balotelli
Will be interesting to see how Lallana plays and I don't think Markovic is ready for a debut yet. Being an impact sub is more likely. Probably just watching the match to see how Balotelli fares.

Yesil has looked very sharp. Would be incredible if he managed to not have his Liverpool career ruined by injuries.

I see what you've done to my selection above ..... you swine, down to 9.5 players eh !?

European football already taking its toll. What say you resident Liverpool fans?

They have some bang average players.

Awful result. Not completely surprised as we always drop points against Villa. I thought Brendan's decision to not start Sterling was absolutely baffling. I can understand leaving him out if we had Sturridge, but playing without either of them was stupid. Balotelli was poor. I thought Lallana looked good, could definitely tell he was lacking match fitness, but he had a promising debut. Markovic looked very good up until the final ball. If Coutinho shoots from 400 metres out again then I might smash something. Bringing on Borini killed the game as he did absolutely nothing. Thought we were good enough for a point and Villa were lucky not to be down to ten men. Still, two points up on the corresponding fixtures from last year.

A squad full of nothing players. They need around 7 top class players to challenge for the title.

Also a clown like Ballotelli is the last sort of player you need when the tide is against you. It a big difference between his sulking and Suarez desperate will to win.

Villa played really well. There's absolutely no plan b for Liverpool though it seems. No Sturridge, no goal, sterling was their best player once he came on but too little too late. Balotelli, didn't even look like he'd turned up. But same as us, early days yet.

Liverpool have been crap in 3 of their 4 games. Lucky to beat Saints as well.

Still awful at defending set pieces too.

How quickly things can change. Hopefully we show them that buying actual world class players does make a difference. They have basically bought Southampton.

I think the Spurs match showed Liverpool's strengths. Against a team that gives you space they will make you pay with their fast counters.

If you keep it tight at the back like Villa did today then Liverpool tend to struggle.
