Very nice. Just get the signings in before the season starts. Already feels like we're late with our signings.

Did alright against Haaland last season
Yeah but won't everyone just lob the ball over him?

What if some Fellaini clone does like the pic on the far right

The crowd when he makes a tackle or a defence splitting through ball to the forwards:

"Argentina! Argentina! Argentina!"

I meant Casemiro, wrote camavinga for some reason.

He can very easily be scouted poorly - it's all down to one person assuming the skill level from a poor Dutch league will translate to the PL.

He's also performed in the champions league?

Good signing for me, he's a footballer who is very good on the ball and can also defend as witnessed in the Champions league.
Think he, along with hopefully, De Jong, will be the catalysts in how we play. Having those two press resistant players who can really pass is going to make a huge amount of difference.
Also it will be easy for them two to just get the ground running as they know Ten Haag methods inside out. Exciting times.

Plenty of teams have failed with having DOF at the helm. Just add layers to management. Need to have complete accord and rapport with the coach. Man City played a blinder when appointing the successful Barca group.

This season it seems the scouting has been done by EtH. Basically, he's acted as a DOF and a coach.

It's not necessarily just a DOF - a compentant recruitment team too. Everyone knows we need a DM yet here we are signing another CB for big money because instead of having a good recruitment team to build a first XI + squad we give all the say to one guy.

The fact people don't realise how risky signing only Erediviise players for big money surprises me.

We do sign a lot of CB's though

2022 - Martinez
2021 - Varane
2019 - Maguire
2017 - Lindelof
2016 - Bailly
2014 - Blind/Rojo

It's not against the realms of possibility that this time next year we're looking to sign yet another one depending on Maguire's form and Varane's fitness (we've already tried for Timber this summer)

It's the problem with having no clue behind the scenes, no continuity in the team at all. Our transfers for the season will probably be Martinez, Malacia, and one of De Jong or Antony for £130m total. And we'll be surprised once again when our defence gets run ragged by the lack of a DM.

Its funny to me people say 'oh he's left footed', oh he can pass, oh he knows Ten Hags system, but when you actually watch you can see he's no better than what we already have. But because the manager said so, here we go again.

Lisandroooo
Woah

He's only four foot nine
His long passing is sublime

Surprised you can come up with this genius after the fatigue you must surely be feeling from posting in the de Jong thread

A terrier in our team. Will run through brick walls for ETH. That’s why he loves him so much.

We need more guys like this in our squad.

So, like most fans, I get excited when we sign a player and you quickly convince yourself the player is going to be a superstar....however...

Given our recent record in the transfer market, I now have an element of fear whenever we sign someone. I hate to say it, but IF Martinez flops...it will be pretty easy to look back and say "the signs were there"

First of all, I think many of us have made the point in the past that the manager should not have such a huge influence on signings. We saw under Moyes, LvG, Jose and possibly even Ole than we were just signing players the manager knew, for the most part. This is not a good strategy for obvious reasons.

Secondly...this lad is 5ft 9", doesn't seem to be quite a DM or quite a CB. From what I was reading today, he initially came into the Ajax side as a midfielder but lost his place to Gravenbach. Sat out the side for a while whilst Daley Blind started LCB and then eventually came into that position. Now, personally, I just can't believe we have signed someone who is 5ft 9" to play CB in the Premier League and I can't believe we have spent €50m on a CB when we have four viable options at CB already. There's other far more pressing areas to address. So can he play RB? Will he play DM? It doesn't seem clear.

I really, really hope this works out but it does have the hallmarks of another signing which we look back on as doomed to fail from the start...unless ETH has a plan up his sleeve

Thing is, Murtough and Arnold are new to the job so for long term trust, gaining connections, showing willing, it's important that they go to Barca, Ajax and other clubs to grow those relationships (and also show we've moved on from Woody).
