Lisandro Martinez | Signs for United

I think what this transfer window shows the most that if you took Eric Bailly, gave him a name change and let him play for Ajax, most fans would love the signing purely because it's a new thing and you get a dopamine hit from it.

The manager knows him, can play a long ball, can play as a DM, fits style of play.. all secondary arguments to actually seeing his profile as a short, slow on the turn, not physically dominant CB. Yeah it might work if you're playing in the ereedivisise against Rotterdam port workers, but 38 games in the PL with no DM protection and balls being pinged across the box from better wide players and fullbacks he won't be any better than our current defenders. In fact I'd wager he'd be worse than most of our CBs.

Reminds me of Sancho when if you'd actually watched you'd see he'd struggle in the PL due to his slowness and the bundesligas abundance of space, and yet 99% of this forum were dying to sign. All just dopamine hits. The fact our manager is literally only trying to sign former players rather than us having any idea about the ideal profile of a player to sign or how to build a good first team XI should ring alarm bells. We have four international starting CBs and that's still not enough, we need to spend £40m on another one that's not even better than most of the ones we have? Club is a joke. Nothing else for it other than waiting and seeing until the new season before anyone thinks of replying haha Maguire haha Varane

God I am getting fed up of saying the same thing over again. We are only buying players that he knows this window because he wants signings who already know how he works and what is demanded

Aside from Eriksen, this is the only transfer that I feel is absolutely nailed on. It's barely worth drawing out for clicks.

We'll need him in midfield at this rate. Would feel much safer with him there than either McTominay or Fred.

Yeah I feel exactly the same, IF we can get it sorted for the last couple of tour games why not try him in that DM role

It's hardly surprising. We're a bigger club than Arsenal, we have Ten Hag, and neither club are in the CL. Of course he'll choose us. As soon as we agree a fee with Ajax this'll be wrapped up as quickly as Malacia was

About Argentine NT players and Martinez is a NT player.
I don't think he would announce it at a set time and leak it to an outlet for Argentine media though.

S American journalists are notorious in that regard.

That may be true but it seems like a questionable strategy. You're fishing in a tiny tiny segment of the talent pool. And sometimes managers have blind spots when it comes to overrating players with whom they are already familiar (Moyes with Fellaini, LVG with Blind, Memphis, and Schweinsteiger).

Neither Klopp nor Pep bought any of their former players in their first transfer windows. Find good players with the qualities to play in your system and they will adapt just fine to that system, whether they've played for you before or not.

Look if it happens for more than two windows then I will admit I am concerned

Were the Spurs and Lverpool fans concerned when Paratici and Klopp bought multiple players from Italy and the Bundesliga when they first joined their current clubs?

Paratici couldn't see beyond Italy and he resigned the the same players at Spurs that he signed at Juventus.

As far as I know, the only Bundesliga player Klopp signed in his first two years was Matip on a free and he didn't sign any of his former players.

Paratici has focused intensively on recruiting from Italy but that's an entire top five league, a much bigger pool than the group of players somebody had personally coached before, and there's a good argument that it had become a bit of an underutilized market for PL clubs focused more on buying from France and Germany in recent years.

Matip, Klavan, Karius, Manninger were players signed from the German Bundesliga. Sadio Mane was a player Klopp pushed for due to the player being associated to the RedBull club in Austria and he was well versed in understanding the heavy metal approach of Jurgen Klopp. Klopp went ahead and signed Mane after it was reported Liverpool's data department had deemed Mane to be not good enough via the Graham model. Wijnaldum was the only player that didn't have a link to either the German or Austrian Bundesliga.

Paratici has mainly signed players from one club in his first season at Spurs and those are his ex Juve players like Romero, Kulesevski and Bentacur for a reported combined fee in excess of a 100m. And the targets within the UK are being negotiated by Levi because it's said in some quarters that Paratici isn't as well versed in the English market.

Whats the holdup. Just pay the fee. Want to see him on tour. Its obvious he’s joining you guys.

Is it common now that personal terms are always done before a fee has been agreed? Apparently Antony and Martinez has agreed personal terms.

How quick is he? I've been reading for months on here that we need a fast centre back to play in a high line.

To be fair Liverpool weren’t in a position to buy Dortmund players in his first window due to the transfer committee and it’s near impossible to get Bayern players to leave Germany in their prime.

Impressive. I bow down to your knowledge, mate.

Martinez much closer than Antony
We have competition for him from arsenal, although I do think he’ll chose us just because of ten Hag. With Antony though aren’t we the only team Interested in him?

Pep was utter dogshit in his first year and Klopp didn't pull up any trees. Just because they approached it differently doesn't mean another approach is wrong.

Gaston Edul is apparently tier 1 for Argentinian players, although I should stress this is entirely based off of the statements of a few Redditors.

his constant rehashing of information is starting to grind my gears. Nothings changed. no need to post the same thing every 12 hours, wonder how many times he's tweeted the words 'Ten Hag considers him a priority target' since the window opened

What's the consensus over there.
They actually don't seem to be as delusional as most of their fan base, kinda like them.
For the most part, fairly reasonable.

A few lashing out though

Tell him he is playing DM here.

And if he says no...then it's thank you, **** you, bye.

Let him enjoy getting 10th place with Yanited... imagine this midget at CB, with that fossil Varane or that fridge Maguire, in the Barclays...with that fat mess Shaw in the mix too, hilarious.
