That would mean Martinez starting at midfield. I just don't see it, Ten Hag said at his time at Ajax that Martinez didn't had the mobility to play there, and for all the reports I've seen both Martinez and Ten Hag agree he's a CB.Can’t see him changing formation from his preferred 4-3-3/4-2-3-1. The way ten Hag likes to play in a 4-3-3 it can change during games into a 3 at the back… the DM will drop back to create a 3 man defence whilst the full backs are pushed high up, this will suit martinez as he can stay back in defence and he’ll also be comfortable pushing a little higher into midfield if needs be.
It’s just good that we’ve got different options to explore. Martinez and Varane would be my preferred choice and I think many others would agree but we all know Varane hardly plays due to a lot of injuries. That would mean Martinez starting at midfield. Varane will definitely miss many games due to injury or fitness, but when he's fit he'll definitely play. Maguire has just been confirmed as captain so I doubt he'll be benched.
I don't know, it will be interesting to see how this develops, I think Maguire will be ultimately dropped.
I agree, Martinez is left footed so he'll obviously play on the left side. That's Maguire's place. Maybe Ten Hag only reassured Maguire's captaincy so he didn't disrupt the squad and create unnecessary discomfort. It’s just good that we’ve got different options to explore. 100%. Just think it’s going to be very difficult to get rid of him and out the team for good.I agree, Martinez is left footed so he'll obviously play on the left side. That's Maguire's place. But it clear Maguire's doesn't suits Ten Hang style of play at all, being that slow doesn't allow us to properly play a high line. Any player with an ounce of pace will leave him in the dirt.
That's why I think Martinez will eventually overtake Maguire's place.
Oh we won't get rid of him until his contract runs out. He's an england international, he's on big wages and he's bang average.100%. Just think it’s going to be very difficult to get rid of him and out the team for good.
She has never said that to meThat's what she said
Maguire played the first half on the RCB against the Aussies.I agree, Martinez is left footed so he'll obviously play on the left side. That's Maguire's place.
Who will drop back? We do not have enough midfielders to have 3 man in the middle. Can’t see him changing formation from his preferred 4-3-3/4-2-3-1. Maguire or Lindelöf will battle it out for RCB unless Varane remains fit (not likely).I agree, Martinez is left footed so he'll obviously play on the left side. That's Maguire's place. Maybe Ten Hag only reassured Maguire's captaincy so he didn't disrupt the squad and create unnecessary discomfort.

WorryingMaguire played the first half on the RCB against the Aussies.
It's the baldnessTen Hag fills me with so much confidence, I struggle to put my finger on exactly why outside of the obvious of his record but something about him just screams "top level, modern coach".
same. Maybe it's just the honeymoon phase of having a new manager, but I'm very confident in his ideas and abilities.Ten Hag fills me with so much confidence, I struggle to put my finger on exactly why outside of the obvious of his record but something about him just screams "top level, modern coach".
Sort of had a similar feeling with Ralf because he is a good coach and has a proper system but it was evident very soon it wouldn’t work out. It’s different with EtH.same. Maybe it's just the honeymoon phase of having a new manager, but I'm very confident in his ideas and abilities.
Not really, it could mean Varane/Bailly take that role instead. As long as it means no Lindelof we're good.Worrying
Wether we play mctominay deeper, martinez or de Jong… when we’re attacking and I’ve noticed it in pre season the full backs push high up and one of the mids drops back. De Jong likes playing this role which is why we want him so bad. Can create from deep.Who will drop back? We do not have enough midfielders to have 3 man in the middle.
That’s what he should be a rotation and squad player but like you said because of his big wages and his price tag he’s expecting to start every game but why shouldn’t we have a 80/85m player on the bench? City have a ton of expensive bench players. I think the club is just worried about all the negative talk about how an 80m defender who starts for England can’t start for one of the biggest clubs.Oh we won't get rid of him until his contract runs out. He's an england international, he's on big wages and he's bang average.
He's became some king of a meme so I don't think any team would be willing to take him at his current conditions and I don't think Maguire's ego will settle for something less. We are stucked for another 3 years of him, hopefully the last two only as a part player.
Because we're not ruthless, and the "big signing fee must play and continue to captain the team" even is he's a complete liability. That’s what he should be a rotation and squad player but like you said because of his big wages and his price tag he’s expecting to start every game but why shouldn’t we have a 80/85m player on the bench? Why did you sign him? Do you think he will help you to play a high line?
No, I think we have good players there but I think also that we need a squad that is also good and deep. I analysed United's squad last year in the left part of the defence. He is left-footed and that is an advantage in possession and also in defending. And I think he also brings a South American spirit, control, aggressiveness. He can bring spirit to the team and in cooperation with the fans, I think it will fit really good to Manchester United and the way we play.
Yeah second this. It stood out to me as well this statement. He's absolutely correct.I like how he emphasized on "fighting spirit and we need it". ETH trying to fill behaviour gap as well as skill gap.
Ive said before i think TH had just started so the easy option was to keep Maguire captain for now. I wouldnt be surprised if this changes as the season goes, as i can see maguire on the bench and Verane alongside MartinezThat would mean Martinez starting at midfield. I just don't see it, Ten Hag said at his time at Ajax that Martinez didn't had the mobility to play there, and for all the reports I've seen both Martinez and Ten Hag agree he's a CB.

Work permit taking too long we need to pull the plug and moonwalk away
They have found something wrong with his application. He will be on the next boat to Rwanda
As things stand we have 3 midfielders (McTominay, Fred, van de Beek). Neither of Bruno and Eriksen will be playing in midfield.Wether we play mctominay deeper, martinez or de Jong… when we’re attacking and I’ve noticed it in pre season the full backs push high up and one of the mids drops back. So Eriksen didn’t play deeper for Brentford no? Your saying that only 1 of Bruno and Eriksen will play at a time next season? As things stand we have 3 midfielders (McTominay, Fred, van de Beek). Neither of Bruno and Eriksen will be playing in midfield.
We won't be playing 3 man midfield with that bunch of players.
I'm sure neither of them will be playing deeper on regular basis, the reason for that is we don't have a natural DM who can cover for them.So Eriksen didn’t play deeper for Brentford no? Your saying that only 1 of Bruno and Eriksen will play at a time next season?
That’s true, maybe if we sign a specialist DM it could work. What are your thoughts on savage and Zidane? I wouldn’t be surprised to see them in and around the first team squad this season looking at how there playing in pre season, they’d make up the numbers, also we are more then likely going to sign a midfielder wether it’s de Jong or an alternative. The problem we have is that we don’t have a single holding midfielder which will be preventing us from playing a 4-3-3. I do think eriksen could work in a 2/3 man midfield if Bruno plays as a false 9 and we have eriksen, Fred and VDB, could work against the lower teams and teams we should dominate.I'm sure neither of them will be playing deeper on regular basis, the reason for that is we don't have a natural DM who can cover for them.
I don't think we will be playing Eriksen and Bruno at the same time, OR Bruno will be pushed forward as he's more of an attacker anyway (his effectiveness drops drastically around mid circle for couple of reasons).
So to sum up, even if we consider Eriksen a midfielder, I don't think we will be playing 3 man midfield because that leaves only one midfielder on the bench. So yeah, back to 2 man midfield IMO.
