Still think he’ll struggle against the majority of teams in the PL who don’t play like Liverpool and city. The more direct route. Perhaps like de gea he will overcome all that after a season who knows but want to see him for a good 9-10 PL games before I think Monday night is going to be the norm for him. He was class for sure.
A good DM cover can work for him. Winning aerial duel is not an issue. It is winning second, third ball. That's where teams hit us hard and it is mainly on CMs. A specialised DM can prevent that and defend set peices.

We finally got a CDM. He can unlock many possibilities that we haven't been experiencing since last few years.

Doubt it, unless they are going to try head the ball which means the bigger issue is stopping crosses.

Headed goals don't account for as many as we think. Plus he can lean into strikers or win it on the ground.

The height issues are totally overstated on here and by pundits. People think an ideal forward should be what Cristiano Ronaldo is yet Messi Maradona and Pele were all 5'6/7.

The game is played more and more on the ground, you also can't generate a lot of power on a header. United will play more and more a high line, which means a footrace back to the goal and people like Malacia and Dalot just need to stop crosses coming into the box.

People act like every ball will be a long ball and every ball will be headed. Casemiro is also there to screen the back four.

Honestly Martinez will get high praise this year, we can look at people like Fofana of course, or even Maguire and VVD but being massive isn't always a great thing. Height doesn't win you games.

If it did it would be Basketball. Players can Jump too, great thing about headers is worst case you can jump into your opponent and put them off balance.

He was incredible. So was Varane. The whole back 4 was actually great and loved seeing them actually showing emotion character and fight. They made it look like defending mattered and I loved seeing them hype each other up and celebrating blocks, tackles and stuff. Was fantastic to see other than the usual meakness.
Hopefully he and Varane can stay fit.

He looked great at defending in a low, compact block, there was no space behind him, Mctominay had a great game.

Now we will see him when United actually had to propose something.

By the way, i dont like the Martinez chant.

I love catchy loud loops, this one will only be sung like twice and thats it.

Going up to the spirit in the sky should be our model for chants but unfortunately we still sing these short chants that get smashed when we face teams with intense supporters like the bundesliga ones.

The John OShea chant is another one we should replicate for new signings.

What a difference a game makes ay. I knew little about him before he came here, same with Malacia.

Ridiculous how he was written off after his debut for his size, people jumoing on the back of pundits saying he is too small. And now a game later he is a world class defender and one of the best ball players around.

Anybody who remembers Vidic and Evras debuts, in na very good United side woudl now not to write off a defensive signing on there debut. And anybody who has seen some of this group start of there careers well here and go rapidly down hill shouldnt be so naive as to praise him to the hills after one performance.

I like the look of him though, looks to move the ball quickly, has fighting spirit and attitude (being Argentinian thought back to Heinze yesterday who was so under rated here for his Liverpool talk) get his body in the way and seems to read the game well.

For me Malacia was player of the match though, just one game again, but to keep Salah quiet on a debut is some feat.

Lets hope they can keep there progression as sounding very bitter, to me the great thing is the options they bring. Its good to see Lindelf who personally has stunk here reaching average at best nowhere near the pitch and Maguire who I still think is a decent defenderf but has been abysmal not on the pitch slowing the game down and not tracking runners gettign caught in no mans land, also godo to see no nworries of Shaw being injured and having to put up with Telles and not having to wonder if Shaw can play consistenyly well.

Not carried away though, regadless of there progression for me we most certainly need another central midfielder, I have no faith still in DAlot despite an very good performance last night I personally would prefer to see Bissaka, also dont trust Fernandes to be consistent with the ball and Rashford/Martial despite obvious talent, trus neither of those so we definately need another atttacking option.

Great to see the likes of Arnautovic, Rabiot not happening but we still need a minimum of 2 dare I say 4 more new signings to really progress this season to genuine top four contenders....and good signings too

MOTM for me against Liverpool.

Reading back some of the pages prior to this game is hilarious. Does football always have to be short-termist? Let’s see how he continues, but the shove into Salah has won me over already.

I never realised Pele was that short. Although googling it he was apparently almost 5'8", but still. Always had in my mind he was around the 6' mark.

Same, I guess I figured 5'10 or 5'11 not a little guy.

It's the Keane chant... They don't even say Lisandro's name in the chant.

I thought they said ''Licho'', no?
Saw Lisandro being called that several times around the forum and made sense, but now not so sure.

He gets called Licha (hear Ten Hag refer to him as that in the Sky interview for example)

It's quite clearly Keano, it's been his song for about 20 years

Just because somebody deaf has put a caption on tik tok, doesn't mean it is.

Not that I care about his height, he's a brilliant little player.....but he is not 5'9. I kept hearing "he can't be a CB in the premier league, he's too short at 5'9", when in fact he must actually be about 5'7. Looking at him next to the likes of Salah on Monday night, who is genuinely about 5'9, Martinez looked a good few inches shorter. He's tiny.

5'9, 5'7, or 5'6 it doesn't matter, he makes up for it in ability and passion.

The ball that he recycled to Elanga for the first goal was a first touch pass. If it was Maguire or Lindeloff, they wouldn't have been able to play that. That's why eth wanted a left footed LCB.

Like there isn't enough height stuff in here already, but don't be daft. He's slightly taller than Antony, who is also 5'9:

Love this guy.

Wish he would start going by his first name only so we wouldn't have to listen to how Brits pronounce his last name.

Knocking anybody else's pronunciation of anything with your location set to Bahwston is pretty brave.

This is what absolutely killed us against Brighton. Every bloody long ball ended up with a Brighton player and us scampering around in a reactionary manner.

Here’s a video of his input into the game. Unfortunately the music is a bit shit but the editing it quite amusing with some cuts to Maguire on the bench.

The speed of his recoveries is just on another level from what we’re used to.

I love how he pushed and nudged them around from the start. :D

Absolutely. Andersen did it all game to Nunez when they played Palace and rattled him enough to get him sent off (there’s a good video of all his antics on YT leading up to the sending off).

I was happy to see Martinez was giving Salah a shoulder barge etc here and there. Asserting dominance.

Salah wanted to confront him after that challenge but was like what the f. ref after Lisandro nudged him. Giving it large but wont take it.
